▸ During the battle on Utopia, Iron Man gains the upper hand in a destructive fight with Magneto by siphoning magnetic energy all the way from Jupiter. Magneto attempts to counter this move by pulling in other interstellar objects and as a result senses the destructive force of the coming Phoenix. After Magneto tells this to him, Iron Man then stops the fight in favor of helping others in their search for Hope. As he is leaving the scene, Magneto tells him to find his daughter, Scarlet Witch.

This reminds me of when Reed tricked Magneto with a wooden gun in that one old animated series. Bro straight up had a mental breakdown being held at gun point and not being able to use his powers on it. One of the goofiest moments for such a serious character

I actually have that cartoon on VHS. I was utterly shocked how Magneto surrendered and effectively stated he was useless without his powers. Yet, the police arrive with their metal vehicles and gun. Mr. Fantastic explained he had a wooden gun and tricked Magneto. Logically Magneto still had his magnetic powers, but still surrendered to the police and took him away, like he no longer had his powers.@@ForeveraBoss117

You don't understand Magneto at all, his powers allow him to control the entire Electromagnetic Force not just metals, meaning he can straight up absorb electricity from Iron-Mans armor, he's an Omega-level mutant above all things

Seriously Rob? My whole thing about Megneto is when he grabbed/took control of Apocalypse iron content of his blood and shredded him from the inside out. Anybody who has iron in their blood is officially wrecked. Tony Stark included.
Actually its not that easy. Humans dont have that much iron for Magneto. Apocalypse, Wolverine and Colossus on the other are made of metal that's why he's able to manipulate and shredd them.

I mean that is why the two make for a good fight with one another as its not really about how is the more powerful in the situation but rather his the most creative with their given abilities.
Iron Man is a genius who create tech that exceeds beyond human capabilities and is able to build MULTIPLE super powered armors for just about any occasions or countermeasures because he is that prepared.
Meanwhile Magneto is considered a powerful mutant with the way he trained and honed in own his mutant abilities to so more than just manipulating metal around him (which gives him a sort of power lottery for whatever his needs).
Not unparalleled but close, Reed is still considered smarter then Stark. It's even referenced once where Stark basically makes everyone on earth on his level and redd says he feels slightly dumber xD.

This time around Magneto isn't trying to be the bad guy or to kill Tony. Magneto is trying to stop Tony from making a mistake, as Magneto has done time and time again letting revenge cloud his judgement.

The whole magneto satellite suit was kinda silly to me. Would have been better for the fight if magneto absorbed the powers of Jupiter that stark was channeling to enhance his own magnetic power. Writers normally does magneto like surfer , which is they have so many other feats that they can do but only show them doing the basics. In this battle he could have shut Iron man suit down by manipulating the electrical currency in his suit.
Most of the fights in AvX were bs. Namor losing to Thing....in the WATER??? Magneto should easily stomp Ironman. Even with a suit not made of metal...Mags can affect the metal in his body. This is a prime example of the writers deciding the winner first and coming up with whatever means gets to that end. Most of AvX is just a waste.

Yeah. Leaving aside the weirdness of using satellites to harness magnetism (what?) it takes LIGHT minimum 35 minutes to travel from Jupiter to earth. He must have been planning this for a while.
I knew I couldn't be the only one that felt like this. The writing for AvX was Piss Poor! Thing beating Namor underwater alone is enough to throw the whole event out, but Iron Man beats Magneto solo when he's an X-Men-level threat to himself. Colossus as the juggernaut somehow not dragging Thing or Red Hulk. Cyclops vs Cap and Scott suddenly loses all tactical acumen and just shoots a basic beam straight at Caps Shield until he walks him down and shield bashes him lol. Gambit blows up the chest of Caps' armor then gets walked down, and that's after Cap knocks out Warpath lol. It was just bad on bad on bad

Magneto is one of those mutants where, if you really stop to think about his power, he's damn near unstoppable, so it kinda puts the writers into a corner. Compare Magneto to the stand Metallica from JJBA. Risotto is the Mafia's best assassin because he can manipulate electromagnetism to form things out of the iron in your blood, such as him forming a pair of scissors in Dopio's neck. I'm sure Magneto could do the same and that's just one weak example. He could manipulate light etc. Very OP mutant power for sure.
I don't exactly remember the name of the channel but they do analyze his power. Just the way he can manipulate iron in blood requires power equal to a small black hole. And Magneto can do that easily. So... yeah. Magneto, in hard paper, has cataclysmic levels of power.
Magneto literally kept himself alive without a heart by magnetizing the iron in his blood.
Enough said.
If Iron Man had no writers' plot armour, he'd be dead in a millisecond from taking on Magneto.

I think what was amazing and proof of Mag's Omega Levelness.. Was during the fight, after Tony siphoned from Jupiter, Mags starts musing on how he's Siphoning magnetic power from other Planets.. And the thing that distracted him was one of those planets dying.. Just.. Good lord if Mags can do that level of insanty with his powers.. he could throw whole Solar Systems into chaos.. Forget just destroying Earth! His only weakness then comes down to that he still needs to Breath, Eat, and Sleep.. IE He's still Human..

Always wonder why Magneto never has any metal ball bearings some projectile with him.
I always figured that’s why his chest piece looked the way it does.
Better yet... why not adamantium ball bearings? Or better yet, adamantium shuriken?
My guess is he doesn't really need to bring ammo since he can find ammo just about anywhere lol Just rip off some sheet metal from a building with his powers, mold it into an arrow-like shape and launch it at insane speed. Could do the same with rocks etc.

Why wouldn't magneto just cause the iron in iron man's blood to go racing off through him extremly fast all at once? Literally instant death. This fight was a mcguffin not because of Tony's toys but because the writer nerfed magnetos power like he isn't a powerful enough mutant TO OH I DONT KNOW HAVE HIS HEART MISSING YET BE ALIVE BECAUSE HE CAN PUMP HIS OWN BLOOD WITH HIS POWER
While I do generally love seeing arbitrary "X vs. Y" fights like Magneto vs. Iron Man, the Xmen vs. Avengers and related stories always remind me of maybe the biggest annoyance I have in comic book stories, when the plot essentially hinges on two groups or a few individuals just not talking to each other in anything resembling a rational manner. Yeah, I get it, these are super-powered people who rightfully think they can use their abilities to make any problem or opposition go their way, but when the plot entirely hinges on them being man-children, it often takes me out of it. I guess I'm just saying those are my least favorite sorts of stories.
These books are and always have been written for 12 year old boys (and their equivalent adult man children who actually buy them these days). There’s no widespread market of tweens or adults who will buy series of books of super powered people “talking it out.” The industry is built on pew pew pow. An intellectual debate might be good for a few issues or character piece. But when these characters can shoot lasers out of their eye balls, they’ll never be able to sustain sales by NOT letting them fight. But I agree with you, I would’ve hoped the comics industry might grow up with its audience. Not sure they or the audience have grown up.
😂😂We don't have super powers now and people now will still kill each other instead of having a discussion. Comics have a ton of issues but this is one thing they get right. If we all woke up tomorrow with various powers, 85-90% of the human population would let it go to their head (assuming they actually get a decent power)
In the movies, Iron Man made his primary armor of titanium and gold. Neither of which is affected by magnetism like ferrous metals. Titanium and gold have virtually zero magnetic properties. They do carry electrical current very well though.

Water, and therefore ice, is a natural solvent, meaning it dissolves minerals without changing its composition. Ice, because it is solid, can hold more minerals than liquid water. So if the ice has a high concentration of magnetic minerals, say like IRON, he can control the iron in the ice and through the iron control the ice. Just like he can influence the small amount of iron in red blood cells. Pure water, H2O, would be devoid of minerals and not affected by magnetism at all.
But that does not change the fact that he can not control plexiglass or wood or cotton or wool or plastics or anything else that is non ferrous or lacks any magnetic properties.
The three elemental metals that are naturally ferromagnetic are iron, cobalt, and nickel. Compounds and alloys can also be magnetic if they contain iron, cobalt, or nickel, such as steel and stainless steel. Non-magnetic metals include aluminum, copper, lead, tin, TITANIUM, zinc, and alloys such as brass and bronze.
And polar molecules have nothing to do with magnetism and everything to do with the strength of one elements covalent bond with another element.

I think if Magneto had the mind to do it, he would kill Tony. Lets be real, the things you can do with magnetic fields affect people fundamentally. He could use the magnetic fields around him and concentrate them on Tony until his head started bleeding inside out. if he put enough power into that field around Tony, Tony's body would start arcing with electricity or it could interfere with the power generator for his suit. Have they ever done that in a story?
No clue if Magneto has ever done that, but he definitely should be able to, which also reminds me that that's what Terry Crew's character in Deadpool 2 can do. In theory it should work in reverse, so Crews's character has magneto's powers???
His suit has counter measures for stuff like that. It’d also require Magneto to focus which would be hard well fighting someone like Tony

This was one of the few AvX issues that I enjoyed just for the simple fact that its one v one and it fully acknowledges that iron man is smart but also magneto can do a lot with his powers, i don't know I could go on a whole spiel why i love this.
Really, I thought this whole ordeal was contrived and terribly written.
I'm sorry to say, but the simple fact that Magneto doesn't easily clap Tony in this fight is clear indication the writers either didn't do their homework or just don't care to use the abilities their characters have been shown and known to have. Magneto is not an equal fight for Tony at all, under almost any circumstances. He would have to possess effectively *every* advantage possible to even stand a chance against Magneto.
This isn't me hating on Tony Stark. This is just me knowing how much more *ludicrous* Magneto's abilities are. The man earns that Omega Level many times over. Magneto is a threat that you call *all* of the Avengers for.

You have to keep in mind as well before this that Emma Frost did pull one over on Iron Man. Showed up on their island with psy-blockers just for her but didn't anticipate Emma just to straight up punch him in her diamond form.

Magneto is compassionate. He didn't take it seriously. He can actually kill Tony Stark.
Electromagnetic force is one of the 4 main forces in the universe. In magnetisam the same polar things deflect of each other, and different polar things atract each other. Ironman can change the polarity of his repulser blasts to go through Magnetos shiels, then again Magnito can change the polarity of his shields at will. Magneto can use magnetic elements around then to attack Ironman since his armour is not magnetic ... it all depends on can Tony Stark think of countermeasures for that and knowing him, he can ... this is an interesting fight.

If Erik wanted to really get grimey on Iron, he'd do him like he did Apocalypse in Age of Apocalypse, and isolate all the iron in his blood, & tear him in half. Jupiter satellites or not, Iron Man takes and OFFICIAL L. Magneto is a freaking BOSS! He better start staying in his lane. He thought he was brave by talking to Thor like he had some bass in his voice, talking smack until Thor hit him w/the RICK JAMES! Lol. He'd never try that w/Apocalypse tho, because AS SOON AS he tried to get brave & act tough, the second he hit Apocalypse w/that NY slick talk talking about "I'm a genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist", Apocalypse would've backhanded him, sending him actions 4 states AND 2 counties, then helped him understand how place in the bigger picture, & put Tony's punk-ass on the street corner! Magneto power was interrupted by phoenix destroying a planet he was pulling energy from, so that’s why at the end he felt her and not iron man. If the writers wasn’t trying to sell an avengers movie , Magneto would win.

The massive aneurysm that Magneto could inflict on Stark would render his money and vaunted intellect pointless. The writers have completely lost the plot when it comes to Ironman, from going toe to toe with the Hulk to taking on the bloody Celestials it's become a parody of the comics we grew up with.

Storm also do that with electric storms inside people brains and Jean can telekinetically stop blood flowing

Because if you make a character to powerful, and have 0 issues with instant murdering any and everyone they fight as fast as possible....
The story and character gets really boring, really fast ... Magento could also just release a planet wide EDM, Drop an asteriod or space station on Ironman, etc.

If Tony can tap into Jupiter's magnetic field via satellites over that planet, and Magneto can instantly destroy those satellites which is 409 million miles away... why wouldn't he tap into Jupiter's magnetic field himself?

Magnetos biggest ace up his sleeve or Super OP card is that he can use the Iron normally naturally found in a persons body, clump them all up together to make a tiny nail and zig zag it thoughout the body. he used that once but i guess they nerf that to avoid him being too OP.

could I point out one thing .... prior to T'Challa a human whether he is enhanced by a flower or whatever gave him powers he is still a human as he can take a counter agent and shed them mutants cannot prior to said person Defeating/killing Namor *Xavier's dream came true!!!!* Scott and the phoenix five made Xavier's dream a reality for all the other stuff they did they did something that not even Kal-el and his cohorts have ever done, a new golden age of peace on Earth Mutants and humans living side by side in harmony there was even an electrokientic which was helping to bring electricity to a place that had none before *voluntarily* I wish people would remember that among everything else in the storyline.
That was way too wordy, but very interesting fight.
Okay so Iron Man didn't actually win the fight, Magneto just stopped fighting because he felt an entire planet vanish in the depths of space. That is a valid ending. If this had continued, I see no world in which Iron Man isn't killed. But Magneto explicitly stopped fighting rather than being beaten. *That* is an actual possible result of this fight. Magneto is trying not to kill Tony, progressively goes bigger and bigger to fight back against him, and then stops when something more important comes up.
It's very clear here that Magneto wasn't trying to kill Tony. If he was, things would have ended much sooner and much differently. The fight would have ended right after Iron Man's little internal monologue about how 'if you thought this fight would already be over, you never met me' with him being literally shredded from the inside-out by the iron in his blood.
