    For this particular car there is no need to remove the ball joint or stabilizer bar links(as some people do).
    Just undo the strut mount bolts and tie rod end. This will give you all the clearance you need to get the axle out and new one back in...even on the shorter driver side half shaft.
    Also, those cheap aftermarket axles without the dampener often times cause vibration at highway speeds. Be sure to get, in writing, a guarantee against vibration with cheapo aftermarket axles. This way, if you have an issue, you can return it for a refund and shop elsewhere. Buying a second, or getting a trade in on the same axle, from same manufacturer, will usually end up with the same vibration result.
    Cardone sells rebuilt OEM axles for this vehicle. Tho the rebuilt has the dampener removed, they do guarantee it not to vibrate. Rebuilt also has the heavy thick OEM shaft that aftermarket CVs do not.
    Just a heads up.
    Noticed after buying my rebuilt OEM from Cardone, that Callahan sells a CV with the dampener. Don't know what their deal is, but they are just about the only ones that have one with the dampener installed outside of the OEM route, which as we know, is ridiculously overpriced for this car for some odd reason.

      then you would need wheel alignment $100+ : /

    • @gardenstateflatlandb
      @gardenstateflatlandb 4 месяца назад

      @@975naThis car doesn't have cam bolts thru the strut mount, and instead has normal round, non adjustable bolts. You're really not disturbing your alignment much by removing them. It's always advised to have an alignment checked and/or done anytime you mess with any part of the steering components.
      Personally I didn't do an alignment after doing both front CVs about 10k ago. Tires show no uneven wear, and car still tracks as straight as it did before the CVs. That's just my experience tho and results may vary.
      If this car had cam bolts, that would be a very different story, but it does not.

    Just performed this job on my 2006 Elantra at 130,000 miles. No need to undo the tierod as you can easily slide the rotor assembly back and away to clear the outer CV splined shaft. You only gain better clearance if you undo the tierod, but not necessary. The size wrenches are 32mm for the castleated nut, 14mm for the sway bar link, and 19mm for the lower ball joint.

    Had little issues with replacing suspension parts on my Elantra , except replacing the ball joint . The Retaining clip has no holes and needed a specific tool which nobody had . 😡 luckily one random guy had one and came to my place to remove it. After that no issues .

    Great video - especially since you did not had to get dirty! Observation - I like to undo strut bolts instead of unbolting lower bolt joint. This lowers a chance of ripping bolt joint boot. Other than that this is a very easy job even for DIY with jack stands and no lift.
    Also, always torque all bolts to factory specs.

As I was getting ready to put on the big hub nut and cotter pin I noticed that the new axle doesn't have the 4 holes for the cotter pin! What's going on? Is it the wrong axle? Aren't all hub nuts are put on with cotter pins??

    hi, i tried today to replace the left axle on my elantra 2005. I was not able to push the new part in the transmission. I noticed the end of the axle (where it enters the transmission) is different like yours.. is this always like this?
    Do you always have to use a hammer to push the new axle completely in the transmission? I am able to put the old part back in easily... but not the new one... I did not try to hit it with a hammer yet..

    • @jimthecarguy
      @jimthecarguy  5 лет назад

      Are you sure it is the correct axle? Count the splines on the axles to make sure there are the same number . If everything is ok then the snap ring on the trans side maybe causing the problem. lube it with some grease and then tap it in lightly. Keep me posted
