A DRO is on the wish list, for both the lathe and mill. I've used them before, at night school, but always seems to be something higher on the priority list. Will be cool to see what you have for tricks, these things seem programmed with all sorts of useful stuff.
I got a simple 1 display one reader for the x and another for the y axis on my lathe to get me going cheapo Chinese and a proper 3 axis one for the mill might upgrade the lathe later but the simple ones work for now
Thanks Harold. Always good to teach and refresh. As I get older stuff does not stick as easy or as long. DRO was a big gift to me and anybody watching my channel. LOL.
I’m thoroughly interested in this series. I have had a similar DRO on my mill for quite a few years now. However, I do not use even a fraction of its potential simply because I haven’t been able to understand the Chinglish instruction manual. Thankfully you are bilingual and understand Chinglish quite well. 😁
G’day and greetings from Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺 thanks Harold I was having trouble working out how to use the DRO at 65 things don’t automatically sink in. I commend you doing these because you do in a relaxed style, I look forward to watching more on this look after yourself kind regards John I have subscribed and I now know how to centre a piece .
I mostly miss my DROs on the Y-axis . Reading them dial numbers backwards, half the time is just asking for trouble . And if ya want repeatability for a thousandth, or better, the DRO is almost essential . Another good video, Harold !
You are the first person I’m watching how do use a deer roll who does makes sense thank you thank you thank you all the other ones I watched I learned absolutely nothing I wanna thank you again
Harold, So enjoy your videos, I have a Ditron 2 axes DRO had it on my lathe, took it off to move the lathe, now the X and Y axes are both moving at the same time, example, if you run the feed on the X axes, the Y or cross feed also reads the same numbers, can't figure out how or what happen and need to get the cross feed to read it's cross movement, Any ideas, keep all your videos coming.👍👍👍👍
I have not heard of that happening. You would be best off to ask Ditron. Just a suggestion do you have more than two connection to the scales? Maybe you have hooked the cables to the wrong ones.
And only have the two connections, Have to locate my manual and set it up again , but you know the manuals are little suspect with info and someone from China wrote it for sure
I am left wondering how you found the center of 'Y' with your edge finder when the workpiece is hidden by the jaws--I know, I know. Get on the short bus again!
I found the X and Y of the ABSolute measure with the edge finder on the rear vise jaw before I put the workpiece in. Then for the X and Y of the INCremental I just moved 1/4 inch in and right and arbitrarily set that as zero for both. In the future I will show how to find the center of several items already in the vise. Thanks Douglas.
After 3 years we finely got a good joke out of you and i now know how to use my DRO Bro Thanks PS You missed your calling You should have been a teacher.

They are indeed a very useful tool. And once you have one you wonder how you managed without it. Thanks Everett.
Thank you so much. I just installed a DRO on my lathe and have no idea how to use it. This explains allot.
Great info for some one new to a DRO. Would love to spend a day in the shop with you and learn from your years of experience!
Thanks Stephen but I am just a regular guy with very few years of experience.

@@AmateurRedneckWorkshop Not Harold, think I may have fixed it by resetting to factory settings. But not a lot of help I can find from Ditron,
