      youve basically played both of the only fgs that are all that populated
      the only options really are Strive or Fighterz
      unless you feel like trying shooters for a while?
      you could also play Starcraft 2 and have the most ball-bustingly unbearable video game experience possible : 3

    It’s always interesting to see what new players fixate on when starting out. Stuff like having a punish combo and combing into super is always gonna be thought about. But the most important thing to learn, anti airs, is seldom mentioned.

    • @ReadySetMoses
      @ReadySetMoses 11 месяцев назад +28

      Anti air is critical in the early stages, but a nice punish combo for when Ken whiffs a DP in your face isn’t far behind.

  • @jillybooty
    @jillybooty 11 месяцев назад +107

    At 40:00 you were wondering why your throw was whiffing on Ken. I might be wrong but I think I know why: he was in burnout. Normally you could grab him after he blocks condor spire. In burnout, he has more blockstun. You can't grab someone in blockstun. This is to prevent setups where someone is stuck blocking a move with no way out of a throw.

    • @LOL-gn5oh

      JFC I didn't even think about this. Though while I suspected it I also didn't know until very recently burnout puts you in more blockstun. But I have wiffer throws before because of this and didn't put things together in my head.

    • @rna151
      @rna151 11 месяцев назад +6

      Windy condor spire gives +1 on block, being in burn out gives a -4 penalty to the defender. Mexican Typhoon has a 5 frame start up... So yeah, numbers check out.

    Command grab isn't any slower than normal grab, Lily's Mexican Typhoon and normal grab are both 5 frames. It's just, doing the command grab takes more time to do because it's a motion input as opposed to just 2 buttons.

    @40:11 The reason the throw didn't land is because he was tired. In traditional fighting games you can't throw someone while they're still in hitstun or blockstun. Being tired adds 4 frames of blockstun to everything. Basically he was still "blocking" the attack and couldn't be thrown. Condor spire with stock already puts them in a lot of blockstun so you'd have to delay the throw. Though I don't play Lily so I'm not sure if that's the actual tactic she'd want to use there.
    You may have already figured this out but hey maybe this comment will help someone.

I forget what it is called but It will pop up in the bottom left screen and it will help with your combos. You got to hold your assist button for auto combo. Hold the Assist button while pressing an attack button repeatedly to perform auto combos

    quick little tip that changed how I play fighting games is that you should almost exclusively be looking at your opponent, you know subconsciously where your character should be and what you're doing so you shouldn't have to look at yourself. This will make it easier to see opposing move startups and give you more time to react to things.

    If you want to learn fast then you should start with defense and learning how the game functions mechanically. Nearly all the things you struggled with while playing would have been much easier to learn or sidestepped entirely. I'm sure El Chakotay brought it up, but learning to delay tech is the most important step because it is the fundamental tool that offense and defense is structured around. For those who don't know, delay tech is trying to tech a throw when you think you will be in blockstun in addition to trying to tech a throw when you think you will be thrown (while holding back or down back so you are blocking). In practice this just means delaying when you press throw to tech by a bit. It works because if they press a button you will be in blockstun and the throw input will be eaten, and if they press throw you will still be pressing throw in the tech window, so it gets teched. The way this is beaten is called a shimmy, it is where you fake going for a strike/throw, usually by walking forwards while plus, then you move out of throw range, usually by walking back, then you move back in and punish the recovery of the whiffed throw (because you didn't put them in the blockstun they were relying on to eat that throw input).
    Playing bad players is not a reliable source of knowledge, you can't know if your strategy is good because the other player might just be bad. I'm writing this as I watch the video, but there are already a lot of things that you learned that are wrong and will need to be unlearned. Obvious one is that you need to hitconfirm that DP and I'm sure that is figured out later in the video, but there are less obvious ones like you don't understand why you can press buttons out of some things and that your DP isn't invincible to anything but air attacks. I'm still seeing you do it 40 games in and it is literally the worst option, as in worse than dropping your controller (other than enhanced LP DP, which can be marginally better than dropping your controller in some situations (because it is better as a trade than your other 4f button, LK)). SF6 is pretty great because it has the tools in game to learn these things, but even if it didn't it is still necessary to validate what you think you are learning with actual empirical testing.
    Most of learning should be research. You can improve without it, and you did absolutely get better over the 100 games, but you were trying to hammer in a screw half the time. Not stopping to ask yourself if something that is working should be working, and not finding out how to answer that question by learning how the game works mechanically, was making you learn over 100 games what you could have learned over 10.
    To summarize: Apply the scientific method to what you learn in fighting games in order to validate it. Focus on defense first because you need to know how defense works before you can learn offense. Learning and playing are not the same thing, because learning is mostly research and testing.
    As a final note, for most modern fighting games you want to learn a good safe hitconfirm, a fast thing for punishes and interrupts, a basic mixup and how to defend against it, and a big damage combo for punishing big screw ups. In SF6 these would be for lily, 5lk 5lp 5lp confirm into 623hp, command grab vs the hitconfirm which you beat by neutral jump vs blocking, and heavy command grab is probably fine as your punish combo. In SF you also want a good anti air, which is DP or 2HP. Once you have that basic set you can focus on combo optimization, defense, and the complex stuff like neutral.
    Comments I had while watching (the timestamps aren't super exact)
    4:40 that dee jay wasn't doing any mixups in the footage you showed, you could have crouch blocked everything but the jump ins.
    15:40 that juri is just mashing out light confirms, everyone can do that.
    33:34 your command grab and normal grab have the same startup, 5 frames, what makes the normal grab better is that it is 30 frames total on whiff, where the command grab is 50+. This means that if they jump out of the throw you can do DP to anti air them, but if they jump out of command grab they get a full combo punish.
    38:40 You beat a Jamie by damaging him through DI armor earlier in the video actually.

    actually MK1, I sucked at 11 back when it came out, but played it for the cool animations and gore. As soon as I got REALLY into

    I really wish you play MK1 next. I wonder how far you'll go and what your 100 game adventure there would look like!

      The online is so bad in MK1 that he wouldn't be able to start that adventure.

    I noticed you started with modern and switched to classic controls. I am new and currently playing on modern. Do you suggest switching to classic and why did you switch?

    • @Ludvix
      @Ludvix  19 дней назад

      Because classic does more damage. That’s it. But some pros do use modern

    Honestly I've played my share of fighting games not particularly sf but when I did try sf5 I was confused and uninstalled it. Everytime I went to control settings I'd always change my settings by accident .. so yeah. But after seeing sf6 I wanted to give it a try b/c it looked "easier" and so far I really like it it feels user friendly for everyone and a game feeling like that is amazing. I'm currently using modern controls but when I tried classic I couldn't even pull off specials or "beginner" combos without spending hours doing it. Until I kinda figured out some tricks but still sucked with it. I'm curious what controller u were using for it I use a ps5 controller not modded. And deadass I couldn't even do specials alone. Idk if u said what u played with or is it just different on pc or I'm just fucking ass lol

    I feel like the process of getting better is you start off not knowing how to play the game, while still winning some matches. As you start to learn the game you somewhat start getting worse, your just in the decline. I think this happens because your brain is so full of info of everything you’ve learn and on top of that your trying to execute it, so you end up playing on autopilot. Once things start to become second nature you finally can focus on your opponent and you start improving game after game. Maybe this doesn’t apply to everyone. I’m in that state (in another fighting game) where I know what I need to do but I haven’t built the muscle memory to execute the moves consistently, so I end up playing on autopilot. My autopilot self isn’t to bad but just very aggressive and doesn’t know when to stop being aggressive. So people who can’t handle that aggressive style lose to me all the time but as soon as I play against someone who’s defensive and makes me have to use everything I learn, I find it hard to stay disciplined or present in the match. I’m just flickering on/off from autopilot to being present in the game
