- Kazuya is generally a painful experience when i little to no skill in Tekken 7. But it was really fun learning!
I want to get more people into playing competitive ranked queue because its really fun, don't let your performance stop you from playing ranked and improving yourself.

This series reinforces the more community “arcade” aspect of tekken being an integral part of the experience. A lot of tekken is “if you know, you know” but you need people to tell you!
Good news is they are adding a bunch of info into move lists and practice mode in T8 to help remove some of the mystery of learning the game

More importantly, if you want to know, ASK. Maybe it's because people are automatically in a competitive mindset that they feel afraid or ashamed to. Most people are more than happy to share knowledge, especially with newer players, as we love to see the community grow.
An hour or two with that Fujin in a private match would've taught him just as much, though most likely much more, than those 100 matches.

lmao that yoshi was hella funny. yoshi is probably one of the hardest characters to learn, he's got tons of stances, and so much weird stuff it's hard to retain everything you can do with him. he's really cool though
Almost every yoshi player learn their own combos that's why it's hard to play against yoshi in a ranked match because you don't know what to expect
I'm the Yoshimitsu Aeternum, Lol looking back at it, me doing seppuku looked like i was bming but... I wanted to not stomp him into the ground and keep him on me so he can keep learning since I spotted that he was new (he's played like me when I started playing. I played Heihachi back then so I saw similarities) and I was goofing off too, since domination on someone new isn't fun, and if it were me in his position, I'd be mad.

I'm enjoying the Tekken content! You definitely improved noticeably by the end of the video; your movement was much better after you switched to the dpad, you were converting a lot more combos, applying the hellsweep mixup effectively, hit confirming 1,1,2 and just punishing things in general a lot more often.
If I could give one general piece of advice, I'd say you're too eager to respond to things with attacks, and it gets you killed a lot, either because you get counter hit or you whiffed (extremely common among new players). Especially on wakeup, I think I lost count of the number of times you got counter hit doing a wakeup kick. It's even more dangerous when you're face down. Picking more defensive wakeup options like techrolling, holding back to get up backwards, staying down and/or siderolling, or just standing by pressing up (or d/b if you think they'll do a low) if you missed the techroll or can't techroll for whatever reason. Also maybe don't accept matches with wifi players, you saw how well that usually goes lol.
Oh, and don't beat yourself up about not being able to react to Dragunov's low. Pretty much no one can, it's only 18 frames. General consensus is that moves become reactable when they're around 23 frames or slower (it can vary a little from person to person and depending on the move).

Full props to you dood for trying to learn Tekken while also using Kazuya, Kaz is honestly Tekken in its purest form requiring heavy execution and knowledge. If you flop on either end its pain. At least if you intend to learn properly rather than just relying on vortex mixup which is deadly effective yet only carries so far if you go against someone able to move around as you discovered. Most of Kaz's moveset can be stepped/sidewalked to the left, making nearly all his key attacks useless if they do so at the right time.
However! While its true Noctis and other characters are 'easier' to use. Honestly please don't feel pressured by people whining 'Oh its not true Tekken cause its too easy' Use who you want too and who feels the most fun to you. Tekken is arguably one of the hardest games to play in general and it sure helps with motivation if you enjoy using a character for whatever reason. So if in it for the long haul might as well do it with the character you like.
Oh wait, I'm a Mishima player myself one second.....Ahem! I meant, goddammit man, you suck, you gotta spend hours learning to spam EWGF to git gud. All other characters are trash! :P

that guy from game 11 and on for a bit, thats how you know someones playing to learn, they keep remaching and you keep learning from eachother i love it in fighting games.
it’s nice to watch someone genuinely enjoy the improvement process in tekken even going far enough to play one of the hardest characters.
That being said I just want mention you played against a few smurfs. i haven’t seen it commented much at all, but it seemed like more smurfs than actual low levels lol. Not saying they were all pro players, but that Jin, Lars, Claudio, and Lucky Chloe were far above bottom 4 ranks .. You did really well at the end because you played against players way better than you for days(something most are unwilling to do) and finally played against some people as new as you. Just wanted to share. Genuine great video earned a like and a sub from me
Yeah tekken 7 low ranks are covered in smurfs now they're so common and they're honestly killing tekken cause they're making players not wanna play the game since getting past 1st Dan is impossible if your unlucky

I really enjoy this series! I hope you continue to do more videos on Tekken. I'm learning the game right now, and I've learned some things from the last two videos you've done.
One thing to remember. Do not let people decide your main. It doesn't matter if your character is hard or easy as long as you having fun.
Also yes i dont recommend using hard characters to learn tekken. Characters that are easy may teach you more stuff because you can execute their moves, combos, punishes. But if you're okay with it its fine.

@@phoenixgaming7739 keep practicing and try it out in ranked, its very timing based so the netcode will screw some times but at one point you will be able to Juke an Omen on wake up or at start of the round
If I learn a hard character first would that make the easier characters easier to play after or does it not work that way?
@@yazsz9715 a bit for execution and combo timing although characters are very different from each other but most of all you gotta train fundamentals, the transition is smoother then
Really enjoyed seeing your Kazuya game plan slowly getting more optimal. The way you naturally started mixing Hellsweeps and FF3's on oki is actually very satisfying and interesting to watch!
interesting fact about the scrubkiller (uf 4 4 4 4), if they get hit by the second kick (the first low), don't finish the string so you can pick them up with df3,df1 4 for a combo. this is also guaranteed if the first kick is a counter hit.
couple other tips for Kazuya: hell sweep is a key move for kaz but you need to use homing moves to keep them from sidestepping, b4. db4. Another great move for this is ws4. it's also great to keep your opponent in check and to stop them from mashing or set up df1 counterhit. It's deceptively plus on (counter)hit and alot of players will try to attack after getting hit by it, even on counterhit. if you do a wavedash into it (f * d,df) it auto aligns with the opponent to keep them from sidestepping.
I think it should not matter what character you play. As long as you enjoy playing the game I think its completly valid! Either way, gonna enjoy the new ludvix Video now! And merry christmas! Have a great one you all!
This is a complicated subject. Of course play what you enjoy, but also consider the opponent. Playing against some of the cheaper characters is just not fun.

@@xsasuke13x Considering other people in life in general is a good option. Doing that in Tekken does not mean you cannot still end up playing someone like Marduk or whatever if that is what you ultimately want to do. For example we have been playing offline Tekken for a few years now with friends. One of the reasons we were able to keep the sessions going in the beginning was not to go cheap and just cheese each other out. Yes half of the group ended up going with easier and cheaper characters in the end and that is fine. Saying that you should or should not consider other people when making the character choice is an opinion with no right or wrong answer.
@@huecoplanet That is exactly the reason why I originally wrote play whoever you want. However, taking someone else's fun into consideration may be a thought process instead of a hard yes or no thing.
More of this, I'd love to see a whole series of you trying to get to the high ranks, or even go through every character and see if you end up having better winrates purely through knowing characters from facing them.
I picked up this game and kazuya 1 month ago and can confirm that being trapped in first dan for the first 50 - 75 games is real lmao! Your sense of progression was very similar to mine. After rebounding from falling into 1st Dan for the nth time, Kazuya starts to click, especially after you become more patient. Initiate to Mentor was significally faster!
Hitting inputs after a launcher was hard for me for a very very long time! I found myself falling back on b2,1 or 3,1,4 into hellsweep or f,f4 after a launcher. Throwing out B2,4,1 also helped in my case as many opponents only blocked the first two hits, leaving the last hit to launch the opponent back, giving me some more time to collect my thoughts back at neutral! In no way am I confident in my Kazuya, but after watching your video, I find myself reassured that this noobie frustration is normal:)
Also, I think you have a very unique video. Too many Kazuya players on youtube have decades of experience lol, so seeing you learn from point 0 was very refreshing! Are you interested in making any tekken 8 videos? I can say after playing the demo that Kazuya feels quite different!

I can say without a doubt this game is more ferocious online right now than it's been in years. The real killers are sharpening up for t8, every rank is far harder to survive in on average regardless of how low you go. This is the environment where you learn FAST what works and what doesn't, it can be frustrating to get blown up but it feels amazing to have people force your best out of you and you actually deliver. I've been learning hella fast the last 2 or 3 months thanks to this recent trend, it's satisfying and motivating to remind yourself you would kick you-from-last-month's ass 😁
From personal experience, I went into rank as Heihachi when I started and managed to get mentor (had trouble getting to expert) weird. However with Yoshimitsu I go stuck at initiate and 3rd Dan

went back and watched the noctis video like 2-3 days ago. as a kazuya main i was really excited to see you try him out. it took me a few months to make almost any progress when i first started playing
also playing people better than you (but not completely steam rolling you) is one of the best ways to learn as well as rematching to learn what other characters can do ^^
The fact that the lee knew b2 loops and the jin knew electric combos this early is crazy lmao

Mentor and the dan ranks you get either the most cracked labrat gods or the most braindead nooblits its so hard crawl out of those ranks because its a crap shot of what you get
3rd dan too green ranks is full of labrats with 0 defence. They just practice combos over and over (myself included) i have all of heihachis combos down pat (except f3 into ws4 extenders). Can omen and electric on command but my defence and frame knowledge is so bad. Ive ran through red ranks a few times but been mopped by 1st dan lucky chloes too. Its a strange world down here

These Tekken videos are so interesting to watch and have been a learning experience to someone like me who grew up playing Tekken.
Where I live, it’s so hard to find people that actually play Tekken as all of my friends, their friends friends etc only play Smash (a rare few actually play SF) so for me, I’m always trying to look for someone to play against and I have friends who have shown a little interest in the game, but I don’t know how to really make them stay interested or anything, so they only really play whenever I’m around.
I think what this video and your experience has shown me is just how overwhelming this game can be. Most fighting games don’t have over like 20-30 moves, so for a game where the average character has around 80+ must be really intimidating, especially as it’s very easy to forget something you’ve just learned when you’re panicking.
This series is great tho, hopefully we see more of your Tekken journey 🙏
I love this new series you've started. Getting good at a fighting game from scratch can seem like an impossible goal, but seeing you go through the process makes it seem more realistic to achieve, you just gotta keep playing.

It's worth noting that a lot of these people at lower ranks tend to be either smurfs on alt accounts, or their save data was deleted so their ranks reset. Happened to me a couple of times.
Tekken is a massive knowledge check especially early on, and it's possible to spend years playing without making much improvement, but you definitely have a lot of potential in your fundamentals. Subscribed and hoping to see more from you in T8!

Really entertaining to watch someone learn Tekken while staying humble to the fact that people with many hours in the game is obviously more experienced.
So bored with hearing most people call out cheap characters/moves.
I remember watching your other Tekken video with Noctis and am glad to see you picked a staple Tekken character this time. I think beginners who pick Kazuya tend to fall into the "Kazuya Vortex", which is fine when you start but can hurt your knowledge of both the character and the game itself. For example Kazuya has a tackle that noobs online never use, so even just adding that into your move-list would help more than you'd think. Hope to see more vids like this from you!

Loved this video as a melee player who has never touched a fighting game. Tekken appeals the most to me since it has extra movement options since it’s 3D and has high mechanical complexity, but idk how to get into it when nobody I know plays. hey man, absolutely love these videos! i started tekken late into 2021, as a hopeful kazuya from smash who just constantly dropped ewgfs, and now i’m a full fujin player with a consistent electric, wavedash and kbd who’s fallen in love with tekken analysis and philosophies on improvement.
i loved your noctis video and this! if you ever plan to make a 3rd video, maybe you could spice it up by allowing yourself to use some more outside resources! i understand that this is meant to represent the experience of a new player attempting to improve using only what the game’s given you as information, but personally i think tekken is a very uniquely communal experience; even among fighting games, which are already very community-based in nature. i couldn’t have ever reached the heights i did without the likes of phidx, mainmanswe, jdcr, thoughts of himself, and the like! so i just figure it would be cool if, now that you’ve represented this side of the “new player learning” experience, you’re able to also represent the new player experience of folks who are naturally really curious and exploratory about the game they’re learning.

Any Mishima player knows you shouldn't touch online until you feel comfortable in almost every situation this game can put you in. I always learn in practice mode, and then practice in treasure battle. Then online. You definitely have to play online to fully learn though.
tekken has been one of my main games since 2017. i love watching new players get into the game, it reminds me of when i first started out! if you ever need help playing characters or learning tekken in general, there are a bunch of videos on youtube from people like PhidX, avoidingthepuddle, and KingJae that can help! hope you enjoy tekken and i also hope to see you playing tekken 8 when it drops :D

Around the 15 min mark and man, I don't remember the dan and teal ranks having combos that decent. Some feel like smurf accounts.
Keep at it for Tekken. Seeing the progression on learning Kaz and Noctis is really nice. Seeing you try out King would be pretty interesting.

Been following you during the Melee days in 2016 since that was my main game at the time, and I'm glad you kept going with content creation as I always waited for you to upload. A lot of time has passed and now you're experimenting with other games which I think is amazing. What's awesome is that you've decided to give Tekken a try which is my main fighter now as I stepped away from the smash scene and wanted to experience more traditional fighting games. Anyways I just want to let you know that I'm proud of you and the journey you've been on. Wishing you all the best

This is really fun to watch. I could watch a whole ass series of you learning each character like this
I like how you would play a bit, see what you liked doing and what you could improve upon, researched and labbed out some stuff, then returned to play more games. Its a good cycle and fun when you don’t get hard on yourself but laugh and enjoy the process of growth and learning.
Best thing with Tekken I find is yes combos good for different situations (general launchers, while rising when ducking highs or blocking unsafe lows, counter hits, etc.)
but also what are good safe options for pokes, quick confirms when someone does something unsafe (1,1,2 for Kazuya where the 1,1 is safe to poke but do the full string on hit), good safe mids for crouching opponents, and what mixups does your character have with lows, stances, grabs, and something really good to know= get up options (The axe kicks that Kazuya has are great when someone is grounded to throw out to check them, I think its forward 4 and double forward 3 but I might be wrong)
Lastly, throws are teched with 1 for left hand and 2 for right hand, 1+2 for both hands, but of course other grapplers and special throws may have their own knowledge checks that come with playing more match ups and experimenting.
And also very important, when getting up do just up or back. There’s other options but those are the most safest to get up and block.
There’s a helluva lot to Tekken which makes it both fun but understandably tedious for some. But by finding what tools fit the above, and what moves are just used to combos, you can dumb down the movelist by quite a bit and find what you will rely on most.
Think of it like learning a language. You won’t be learning words about neuro science and meta physics, you’ll probably be learning the most commonly used words in speech. I always hear like if there’s 50,000 words, 300-500 of them are like 90% of spoken speech. So just focus on that small but fundamentally great percentage and you’ll do awesome. Continue having fun and growing its a commitment that is honestly rewarding when you continually get better.
@ludvix Hey dude I'm the Yoshimitsu Aeternum, I wasn't playing serious since I knew you were learning, so I was having fun and letting you learn the controls. I was goofing and it was a blast to fight ya. I hope you don't take it as rude, but I don't play to dominate, I play to have fun and share that with others, Yoshi allows for that goofiness. Also for Yoshis Seppuku / stab self. Was just that until another input or if you stood behind me to be on the receiving end. Also I never thought myself as good, merely the challenger fighting a higher power to show that they can be beat by a pebble like me. I'd be glad to fight you again some time.

Also if those are wondering, and to help others understand how to get good, I started t7 in October 17th I think. I'm not a bigshot, however over time I became comfortable with my character. Time and patience is needed for the game, doesn't matter if you win or lose, as long as you keep your head down and keep on playing you're bound to improve. I've never used practice mode and have my fair share of wins, however I also know despite those wins, I have at least triple the losses. (i have about 300 wins in total)

One thing I would say is that often kazuya is incredibly hard to punish with, especially since your electric or normal wind god fist is probably hovering at around 16 to 17 frames right now. I would try to settle more for a simple 112 punish more, you can then bait out any stupid kick getup moves they may do and 112 again.
Also, kazuya is one of the strongest characters in the game when the opponent is on the ground. Your main moves are hellsweep (CD4 to hit standing guard, FF3 to hit those who try and crouch hellsweep, and FF4 to hit *grounded opponents* and reset the situation) if you can use those effectively you’ll start to understand more of what kazuya is played at a slightly higher level often

Kazuya will always be my favorite. His standing 5 hit with the calf kick was the most satisfying thing to land in the game for me in Tekken 4

24:11 kazuyas ws1,2 (or while rising) is i13 so it can punish drags d2 you just werent fast enough also if you never know what to punish a low with you can always go with ws4 since it will almost always be your fastest punish except for certain characters
That Hei and Lucky Hoey were ranked way above their rank. They were 100% smurfs. Hei had a clean wavedash at 2nd Dan😂. And no matter how much you practice, you cant fully use combos or traps like that Cloe at your first matches. He was probably on a new account. That Kazuya was also a smurf. Way too clean movement and he rage quit coz he lost to a player that doesn't use fancy movement. Amazing content.

Just found out your channel and subbed while I'm on vacation with family. Really been enjoying these 100 games videos. I don't play that much Tekken but will start up as T8 comes out comes closer, I play Kazumi, Lars and Akuma (Im Mainly a SF player) but wanted to know if you planned on doing a 100 games as King video sometime or 100 games in another game with the current hot stuff out right now Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising. They have a free edition out with 4 rotating chars weekly so you can try the game before even spending a dime and you can do everything besides make your own lobby without the full version

I've been trying to get into Tekken myself with 6 on psp and the 8 demo on pc, so this was really fun to watch and learn from.

Someone tried to say his save file was corrupted- but the dude is re-matching a 1st dan while receiving low reward at 3rd dan. Makes no sense.

Ayeee, seems like you improved a ton towards the end. Kaz is my main and you will get rocked until you put alot of time into him, but once you do he feels rewarding as hell to play. You should check him out in the tekken 8 demo lol.
In all honesty, 100 or 200 might sound like a lot of games played, but in tekken most people who are even somewhat good play st least 3k games lol. I think Noctis is a very simple character, so I'm glad that you played Kazuya, too. However, to be honest, you should just play characters you enjoy. Still, I'm glad you got a taste of what high difficult is like lol. I hope you enjoy tekken and choose to continue playing it!
Edit: I play Jin(Jin, Kazuya, Heihachi, and Devil Jin are all called Mishimas) so as a Mishima player I understand that struggle of doing combos on different sides lol.

There was a series on a channel called Super Couch Fighters for this game and it helped me learn the game. They go through the mechanics with a few different characters. It was really helpful and if you do wanna keep playing the game I recommend checking it out

If you decide to continue with Kazuya, try inputting forward after a crouch dash to get a dash out of the crouch dash. You can use this to mix up hellsweep with ff3 and get a launch if you land the mid. Goodluck!

I felt your pain when it came to counter hits when first learning to play, over time I realized that you need to predict the move to hit and just remember a combo route

@big7pointer takes time to recognize hit confirms, personally I'm a 2D fighter main starting to learn Tekken and it took me a while to recognize CH opportunities/setups.
Cant even imagine if youre a smash player going into tekken the uphill battle.

Dude I love watching you learning this game. I recently started over the summer and am now at the red ranks. Theres not a lot of videos of people starting this game so its refreshing to see it. I'm a Feng/Fahk main so i dont know a lot about Kaz, however i can still give advice since i tried learning him.
You already know about his crouchdash, but another neat thing is that inputting f, neutral, df will also give you the crouchdash. Your pressure is really solid with hellsweeps, but you can also use ff3 too since its a 50/50 for the opponent. Last but certainly not least, learn electrics! Its daunting at first, but once you get the feeling of it, it becomes second nature. Practice it first with regular crouchdash, then learn it using the other input. Its a super fast launcher that will help a lot.
I wish i had Tekken 7 on PC but im on PS4. Im pretty sure Tekken 8 has crossplatform, so if it does i would love to get some games with you man. Tekken as a whole is incredibly fun and i hope the best for your journey through the game

I main jin and have for years but i also love ff15 and noctis is genuienly a fun charatcer to play even though he may be cheap in some regards. However it does not matter if the character is or not just play whoever you enjoy and thats it. If people online cry about it its porb just cuz skill issues they have with themselves and they are prob not good at the game.
every good tekken player knows how to counter and adapt to other characters and playstyles so dont let the cries of a child change you playing someone you enjoy! Once again great video!
I've been going through this same journey! Once i learned you're supposed to hold down-forward to get hellsweep i was like bro wtf. Also switching the gate in my stick to octagonal helped with electrics but i haven't seen anybody online mention it so it might just be me
