I loved catching dragonflies when I was a child. Some species of Odonata like the Common Green Darner, the Blue-Eyed Darner,...... do bite when handled by their abdomen while other species like the Red Skimmer, Great Blue Skimmer, Wandering Glider,...... don't bite at all. I have caught several Common Green Darners and Blue-Eyed Darners while on flight using a tennis racket because catching them by hand as they rest on a branch or a twig is virtually impossible. They still bit my finger after I whacked them with my racket. In my experience, the Red Skimmers, Widow Skimmers,..... were easier to catch and I usually caught them by hand as they rest on a twig or a leaf. I also caught several Wandering Gliders by hand.
Great shots !!
great reference for artists, thanks!
they're so precious - they remind me of little Faeries:)
