I trained briefly in Gao under Edwards Hines but couldn't ride two horses simultaneously. I have always intended to go back to it so many thanks for posting!

My teacher is Yu-Kai Chang, he is from Taiwan, and our Master is Ge Guo Liang, from Tientsin, China. He is one of the authors of the book on Liu Feng Cai (Tsai) and Gao of Chen style Ba Gua. This post-heaven performance confirms that this master is indeed part of the Gao of Chen style lineage, but there is a slightly different flavor to his movements. Perhaps this is because this gentleman is older, and used to doing the set his own way. Who is your teacher, and from whom does you line descend?

Indeed! I think this master must also be a xin yi liu he master hence the synchronicity.
What you mention are the six harmonies.

Gao studied hsing-i after he had learned bagua and then he developed this linear form that I also think looks like hsing-i. it is also said he learned this from taoists, so we can never really be sure historically. structurally, it is very much like hsing i. it was popular to mix hsing-i and bagua together back in the day. Gao, Liang and other systems have linear sets with a hsing-i flavor, and Liu Bin has sets that integrate hsing-i techniques into circle walk. I think it's very challenging to understand how to use circle walk to fight (totally possible and excellent but difficult) and so a lot of these systems added to them.

Yeah, their entire fighting system was based on Bagua Zhang ( called Hakkeshou Jutsu in Japanese). It's not specifically based on Gao style though. Pretty much all Bagua Zhang styles have 8 main palms they practice while walking the circle. Many of them also have linear sets , some of 8, 32, or 64 techniques although some have other numbers of linear techniques.
Bagua styles are largely organized around ancient Chinese cosmology, mainly from the Yi Jing (I Ching)
In Gao Yisheng's system of Bagua Zhang they divide the main part of the curriculum into Xian Tian (Pre Heaven) and Hou Tian (Post Heaven). The Xian Tian section consists mainly of the eight major palm changes done on the circle.
Each one of these palm changes corresponds to one of the trigrams of the Bagua diagram (which has two main trigram arrangements of both Xian Tian and Hou Tian). The Houtian section consists mainly of the 64 linear palms, these are done in forward and back lines instead of being performed on the circle. The 64 palms each correspond to one of the Hexagrams of the Yi Jing, and are grouped in 8 sections of 8 by the foundational trigram.
However many Bagua styles have 64 palms sets which are performed on the circle instead of linear sets.
There are many styles of Bagua Zhang which can vary greatly. However in general Bagua is known for it's evasive footwork, palm striking techniques, circle walking and the twisting and spinning of the body.
In the manga and in the earlier episodes of the anime you can see many of the postures and even some of the techniques used by the Hyuga were taken directly from Bagua Zhang.
But you probably won't see them as obviously in the linear sets as you would in the circle sets.
