The GAU-8 is an seven barrel Gatling gun in 30 mm caliber.
The Centurion C-RAM/Phalanx CIWS (Counter-Rocket Artillery Mortar) system and CIWS (Close In Weapon System) use a 20mm gatling gun/cannon to destroy incoming targets.
If the C RAM is firing at night there are amazing red tracers.

For those who wonder why the plane does not just kill it with missiles, the c-ram is an automated anti-missile system, so it would be a waste of time to shoot it since the missiles would be easily intercepted
apparently the only thing wasted here is cram bullets.
Well, the missles might distract it for a bit
This is just a player in a gripen dodging a CRAM being controlled by another player. It is an airshow.
@@danidiamond the C-ram is predicting the next move the jet would make and isnt 100% predictions, also the jet is equipped with flares that throws off the C-rams, targeting system and would have a higher chance to track the flare

They are great to intercept missiles. Fighter jets not so much since they can be evaded. But they still force it to evade so at least smth

It’s not designed to shoot down aircraft. It’s designed to shoot down incoming projectiles. They are primarily a naval defense system, but were also deployed to bases in Afghanistan where it is said they successfully and consistently shot incoming mortar rounds out of the sky. Missile systems are used for shooting down manned aircraft.

CIWS and C RAM fire where the jet is predicted to go based on calculations derived from radar readings to determine the speed and position of the aircraft. This reading is quite accurate against flying objects that are not manually guided. Once a bullet has been fired from the CWIS/C RAM a pilot or controller has a brief window of time to change their path so that they don't go where the computer predicted them to be. The evasion isn't as easy as it looks from the ground either.
Then how did he do it so easily?

But the pilots are all dumb. Did you see that high-negative-G-pushover? Absurd. The pilots in these vids often fire from low angles which is just a waste of the altitude advantage, and should be using missiles.

Like everybody else I thought this was real life as well but it's amazing from the ground level it looks like he's not shooting anywhere near the airplane it looks like he's just shooting out in the open space until you see it from the airplanes point of view then it's like wow he was all over the top of me the whole time
It’s about as far away from real life as possible. The amount of rounds is the first of many problems.

Yes the firing machine used to sence the heat of the aircraft and then fire the bullets. Hence the flames distracts the bullets 👍🏼

А самолёт упал из за сигареты, которую пилот закурил - у него огонёк упал на шелковые штаны и они вспыхнули вместе с малиновым спинжаком и шарахнула сигнальная ракетница или сигналка или зажигалка китайская на панели взорвалась. В общем- довыделывался крутой летун.

Radar-guided gun systems don’t need tracer rounds but, mainly, why is the pilot deploying flares against a radar threat?
It also uses FLIR for visual target selection so maybe that's what they were trying to blind.
@ziher123 you only get about 5 button pushes on the flares. Generally best to keep them for when you actually need them.

On a really C-Ram those thousands of rounds that miss have to go somewhere, can't imagine using this weapon in a populated area!
They have a fuse in them and basically explode after a set distance.

Depends on the munition, as well. The tracers designed for C-RAM self-emolate by burning up before they reach the ground. C-RAM is explicitly for terrain defense, CWIS is for Naval defense. CWIS uses depleted uranium rounds, which don’t burn up or explode.

Jet view gave me anxieties eventhough its a simulation.
Shows that velocity is far more important than number of rounds fired. Had the Phalanx fired rounds at 2.5 kilometers per second, the aircraft could not have evaded a single burst.

Its trying to guess where its going, speed, trajectory, distance. The real deal is more sophisticated a real pilot would definitely avoid being in this situation. And i do believe in the POV of plane it got hit a few times very quickly
