    Peter, at 1:19 you display the inside of the old rotor- it shows only partial wear from the brake pad. This could very well indicate a corroded caliper piston, one that is sticking or stuck.
    To test the caliper pistons proper movement, you can remove the caliper from the rotor- but leave the brake hose attached- place a piece of wood to keep the pistons from flying out, and press on the brake pedal. If all is correct, both pistons should slide out against the wood piece. If one piston (or both) is stuck inside the caliper, the chamber & piston need to be cleaned so pads brake evenly on both sides of the rotor. I enjoy your videos, I have owned a '71 280SE for over 30 years.

      Hi Walt. Thanks for watching and commenting! I'm glad you like the videos. Thanks also for your good input about the calipers. We'll se how they work. I hope they are fine. Otherwise I'll restore them later and in that case it'll be good stuff for another video :) All the best to you and enjoy your W108!

    Don’t forget, folks: start bleeding brakes with the wheel furthest from the brake fluid reservoir, then work closer, wheel by wheel.

    Why not drop some penetrating oil on the bleed nipples the night before you start disassembly? If you do shear a nipple off, you’re right: you have a problem. Great stuff penetrating oil (even WD40 would help!).

    Did you put some fresh new brake fluid in to get rid of any traces of the old brake fluid, how often do you change the brake fluid canister, since you have all new components on the car, I would feel more safe, if everything were overhauled, for added security, since who knows if that container was ever changed, and with the brakes even more, the reason I say it I had to hit a curb, where the rim,got bent beyond repair, and some other components, got damaged, that I had to replaced, ever since I am very strict on having everything checked.

      @Pexyz  4 года назад +1

      Yes, I always use new fluid. However I felt no reason to replace the canister. They are usually in good condition. Sorry to hear about your incident. Hope everything went well!

      @@Pexyz whe it comes to brakes I like to be on the safe side of things, especially if I don*t know if it was ever changed or not, plus to make sure that the brake fluid cannister.is also changed for that extra piece of mind, not wait till something happens so they can tell me, I like to think before they say it is ok, maybe I am a perfectionist, but my life is the one in the car,driving so they tell me, oh yes it is ok, I say do you reassure me, if you don*t it gets a new one, then I feel much better.

    I bleed the brakes on my 73 450SL and when I cranked it up the pedal went to the floor. Any suggestions?

    • @Pexyz
      @Pexyz  3 года назад +1

      Hi Craig. Did the pedal go all the way to the floor? It's natural that the pedal sinks a bit when you have a foot on it and start the engine. That's because the servo activates. If the pedal gets higher when you pump it, then maybe you still have air in the system. Try to bleed again. 👍
