- Nicolas Chenivesse took over the Château de Charmes at the age of 20 and has carried out significant restoration work over the last 5 years to save this monument, which had been abandoned and squatted for more than 20 years.
During this show, you will discover the history and interior of this charming château in the Drôme region, the restoration work already carried out by its young owner, and also the second floor, not yet restored and closed to the public.

I love that he's creating an immersive experience. I would enjoy spending time there for a few days, perhaps as a servant, a cook or laundress.

How did you end up "taking this over" Did the Nobility sell it to you for a lump cash sum? Or did you inherit it ? Or are there 'French Squatters' Rights" ?

Such a magnificent tour by an exceptional man. He tells the stories of rescues and restoration that i long for. The fireplace rescue from the salon of the 7th story apt. One hour grabs a truck and friends and saves that gorgeous marble mantle. I hope he makes more videos.

I found this renovation very interesting and I sincerely appreciate the English narration so I could focus on seeing the castle instead of trying to read subtitles while attempting to look at the images. The documentary had a great balance between showing the owner talking about the castle and images of the structure and its' decor. Well done!

Wow this young guy is truly a remarkable person with a very old soul. The way he talks is if he’s been alive for a hundred years! His passion for art and architecture and French history is incredible! Definately one of the best refurbished chateaux’s on this channel to date. What a breathtaking place he’s turned it into!

I truly enjoyed this, an old friend of mine restored a tower castle in Todi in Umbria. There is something glorious about living in an old building. I lived in a very simple moorland cottage built in 1475, and I can still feel the presence of the house. It was almost impossible to be unhappy there.

I truly admirer you, that was able to brake free from your parents idea of how to live , and form your own path. That is not all granted. Young people that are allowed to form their lives after their own heads are few. Most of us are trapped by our family members for one reason or another.
Even if you sort of " returned to the past " even before you where born , people had this lifestyle , but you managed to modernise this lifestyle , I salut you.

I wonder how this young man could afford this humongous task financially. He achived a lifetime of work even if he is so young, there is no way that he did it by himself. Whete are the people who helped him? What was done is magnificent but I would like to know the background, how did he do it? Otherwise is seems so unrealistic. 😮😮😮
