Hey, you made this vid in 2013, and it's 2022 now - but I wanted to thank you for making it. I recently let this watch sit in a drawer for several months, and upon finding it, wanted to start wearing it again. But it had reset to 1-1 of whatever year it resets to, and the manual was long gone! Thanks to your efforts (eight years ago!) I have my favorite watch up and running again!
A year ago i was diving and found my 900 at the bottom of a river. No telling how long it was down there before i found it. Shows how durable these watches are. I love it!
Had mine for 10 years and still running strong and I wear it almost daily. I occasionally will lay it in a windowsill for a few hours. Not sure if that helps but with solar I'm sure it doesn't hurt. Casio builds awesome watches! This is my third!
@@rishabdharya3061 My battery just died after maybe 10 years. I usually leave it face down on the table, which was clearly a mistake. I'm solar charging it right now. We'll see how well it works.

After viewing several hundred RUclips instructional videos about many subjects, I finally found one that hit the nail on the head!!! I recently purchased this exact watch on Amazon but, of course, I had to find a way to re-size the wrist band. Your instructions were exactly the information I needed. Also, the information about the various features of the watch were very informative. Thanks a MILLION!!!
Thanks so much for this video! I got this watch today as a Father's Day gift and the band was big enough to fit an elephant, so your tutorial helped me remove four links - wasn't exactly a snap, but I got it done with no damage. I love this watch! My wife laughed at its size and said that, after awhile, my left arm will be an inch longer than my right. Thanks again!
I love this watch. I've had it for 4 years never a problem. not even the band. I only take it off to shower and sleep. I work in a factory so it gets beat a lot (even saved my wrist from some cuts-crushes). Works perfectly at water parks also. My wife had to convince me to buy such a expensive watch $125ish when I bought it. But it ended up being one of the best items I ever bought.
I bought this excellent watch at Costco about 7 years ago for unbelievable low price around $80. I work in very harsh dusty environment in construction. After many years of real abuse, watch is working so well. Unfortunately adjusting it without manual is very difficult. For that reason I am so thankful for that excellent video. Excellent video about excellent watch.👍⌚️
I have replaced an 18 year old g-shock with the 3406 which has this band. You are the only one to have the right answer as to how the links come out. You are a life saver, thanks
I have worn a Casio G-SHOCK since 1987 and am still wearing one today...I have the updated version without the time memo function and must say it's an excellent watch...digits are extra large for my 50 year old eyes and just takes a beating like it's nothing...I just wish it would come with a black case with black rubber band with this same positive display!
I have had this very watch (yes, the old version) since right after it came out. I bought it January 2003. So 14 years now. It has seen heavy abuse through jobs (construction, remodeling, masonry, roofing, chimney sweep, hvac work). Has held up very well. Since recently spending 5+ months in the hospital, it suffered battery failure (reset to 2005 thingy). I have now reset it through use of this video, thank you BTW. We shall see how it holds up now. I have read that it will continue to reset itself to 2005 every once in awhile so we will have to see.
Thanks for showing the band/link adjustment - this watch seems to have a unique band (not like most other Casio products), and this is the first video I could find showing how to remove links.
Gotta thank you for your review. Thought I knew my watches functions, but that was over 10-15 years ago and at 74 I guess there’s a bit lacking upstairs. I just replaced the original battery yesterday by following another gentleman on RUclips… of course I made a mess of things but managed to right it all……..then came the resetting of it!! After a lot of frustration I located your review…again..many thanks! It’s back on the wrist and it’ll now probably outlast me…which is good!
Dude, thanks to you I have for the first time been able to adjust the links on one of my watches without having to pay a jeweler. Seriously, that's awesome, lol. It's actually the black version of this watch too.
I bought the newer model when it was on sale. Yes it's good and rugged. Small grips the link pins brake easily so buy extra's because (me being in Japan) it's about $9 to repair...you can buy a kit with a lot of pins and tools for about 11 to 13 bucks on amazon....it's worth it. Bought mine in 2015 and still going strong....except for broken pins. Broken pins aside I love the medal band it wont crack and brake and just like the watch it's self it's build like a tank. Great review! Best watch I've ever purchased!
This is an excellent video. Thank you so much. This watch was my first G-Shock that I received as a gift over a decade ago. It's (probably due to sentiment) my favorite. I haven't been able to wear it for a couple years because of one of the plastic/polyurethane ends, from the face to the band, failing. Finally a replacement was ordered, and it couldn't have been completed without this entry. Again, thank you.
I've had this watch for 15yrs best watch ever!!!! Has become my vacation watch as I have gone to iWatch. Still works great just leave in the sun for a couple of days and back to life!!!!!
Got same watch. Love it. Only problem, the plasic/rubber end caps that connect watch to bracelet break. I replaced them because it's the best watch. The reason it's best is easiest to read at night of the casio g-shocks. Other g-shocks are not as clear as this one. The time stamp feature is great for reference a security camera. When someone suspicious walks by house and I happen to notice I can do a timestamp and later on (usually too busy) review security cam to see if the guy did something. When security cam is 24hour recording I can trim down time it takes to find when he walked by instead of reviewing whole day. Great to catch people stealing.
I own the slightly newer version but pretty much exactly the same thing. Still works perfectly after 15 plus years. Same battery, etc. Atomic time perfect. Best watch for someone that doesn't want glam but rather real function.
you prolly dont give a shit but if you're bored like me atm you can stream pretty much all the new movies on InstaFlixxer. I've been binge watching with my girlfriend for the last months xD
won one used on ebay. the seller said it was new w/o tags. I won the bid for $35. While the watch had wear and was filthy and dead, I was able to clean it up, and get it charged within 2 days. I have 3 tough solar atomic g-shocks. love them all.
I bought mine in 2002, I believe. It died twice, once about 10 years ago and then again yesterday. My experience told me to get a new battery for about $15 - $20 bucks. As you can see, a battery lasts for about 10 years. It takes about 20 - 30 minutes to replace it. It is well worth your time and money to keep this watch running. It is my one and only watch, so it has been through everything. I really hardly ever remove it for any reason. It is waterproof to 300 feet, and yes, I have used it for scuba diving when I didn't have my diving watch with me. The only difference is that mine is black.
I had a Casio that was both analog and digital. It, too, was a waveceptor but not G shock. I scratched the crystal while reaching down while driving. With the limitations, I loved that watch and used it until one of the buttons stuck and would not pop out. Looking forward to using my new watch!
Hey!!! Thanks so much for the review!!!! I got one of these watches about 4yrs ago from my mother for my birthday. Yesterday, I had to get the battery in it changed because it was getting to the point that it wouldn't keep a charge....once the battery was changed it took FOREVER for me to figure out how to set the time on it. I usually have to do it manually because I live in an area where it's hard to get good radio reception, plus I have A LOT of electrical devices going like laptops and other things....those probably hinder radio signals as well. I couldn't figure out how to set it until I found your video. Thanks again!!!!
I've read comments about this watch complaining that it's heavy. Certainly, it's larger and weighs more than your average watch but, to me, it's not bulky enough to be a deal-breaker.
Thank you for this video. It's been crazy trying to figure out how to set this watch since I found/rediscover it in my drawer! Your video helped me tremendously! Thank you!
Greg, I just got one these after patiently waiting for a clean example of the earlier one with time memo. Thanks for all the inspiring videos, both new and old.
I've had mine for about 10 years. I got it by accident. A few years earlier I bought a cheaper Waveceptor from Wal-Mart (the Waveceptor feature never worked). The battery went dead. I took it back for a new battery and the lady didn't know how to install a battery. She kept shorting it out when she replaced the back panel. Eventually she gave up, and told me to grab one that was similar. I found an MT-G and said it looked close enough. She agreed and ringed me up. That's when I saw it was a 95 dollar watch, but with a zero balance. I told her I only paid about 35 for my old one. She was trying to leave and didn't care. I even said, I came in with a dead battery. Should I at least pay for the battery? Nope, she was gone. Free upgrade, best watch I ever had.
Great watch! Purchased the original 2638 MTG -900 G-Shock watch in the 2003 time-frame at Sam’s Club for around $95 and never had a problem with it other than replacing the battery in 2016. I selected this watch due to the fact that I ride motorcycles, which are notorious for damaging watches due to vibration. Another reason I purchased this watch was that I was traveling a great deal domestically and globally at the time, it allowed me to easily keep track of local and home time. I have other watches I consider jewelry more than watches, some of which cost over thousand dollars, but I must say this is my everyday go to watch.
I've had this watch since 2008 (9 years), I bought it in Africa (Djibouti) while I was working there. Never had any problem with it, I only had to change this year the parts that links the bracelet to the watch. Perfect in any condition !
I have had this particular model for just over 20 years now as my daily wear watch and have not had to do a thing to it in that 20 year time . Worked perfectly, never had to touch a thing. The back light has just started to act up and recover indicator flashes when I try to use the back light. These are indicators the rechargeable cell is finally starting to fail after almost 21 years. I ordered a new CTL1616F rechargeable battery / capacitor NOTE NEVER touch the new cell with your fingers they are extremely sensitive to static shock damage and will ruin the cell. Use static safe plastic tweezers only to touch the cell. There are a few videos on here on how to replace the cell. Should be good to go for another 20 years. Also never let your charge run down too low. I keep min in a windowsill when not in use to keep the charge up this will go a long way in keeping you cell / watch going for a long time.
Great video... I still have mine... Got it in a Las Vegas Walmart for $150 in 2005 im on my 12th year (2017). Reason I liked it was it somehow nerdy, sporty, classy looking all at once. Anything your wearing from workout gear to a 3 Piece Suit it works. I call it my digital Rolex :) only complaint is pin came loose over and over and it came off my wrist outside and I lost it somewhere... Id grown so used to it I felt off balance when missing. Luckily the person who found it posted it on ebay and nobody but me was interested and got it back for $20 I guess thats not terrible for a finders fee.
I've had mine for around 8 years, never had a problem. I have other brands too, but 99% time I wear the Casio. When you want a great value on a time piece, stick to Casio, Seiko. I have found these the most reliable.I still have a Seiko my wife bought me for our 2nd anniversary, that's 46 years ago.(been married 48 )
I can confirm about the long term ruggedness of this watch - over 7 years of hard use in the oil field - mine had been run over several times by my suburban - by the 55 ton kenworth and trailer I drive - as well as being thrown down a well and fished out and has always survived. Mine looked far more used than yours - but the crystal remained looking brand new through it all. I finally lost my watch when TSA decided to search my luggage and remove it for me. They deny my watch was there - but I'm certain I'll see it for sale by them on ebay eventually. I loved this watch and am already looking to replace it with the same model.
I have this very watch in the MT-g 9100A (Black Micron finish). I am a watch lover and collector. To say that I love this watch is an understatement. I found that this Casio does EVERYTHING a watch should do, and do it well. Imagine a watch that all you need do is set it once and let the years go by. I've had this watch for about 5 years and It is very comfortable to wear. IF you only need one watch, this is it.
2199 Just keep your eye on EBAY the MTg9100 (black) comes up in new to very good condition from time to time. A good black mtg will come up, if you are patient.
Thanks for review. It made me change to the newer version as I too did not think the time memo was very useful. I bought this to fit the need of a semi-dress digital watch that displayed accurate time. I had to remove several links and your demonstration was perfect. After wearing a stainless automatic watch, this thing not heavy at all. Nice knowing with the auto time and auto daylight savings features you set it once and never have to worry about it again. I bought mine ship to store from Walmart and am very pleased. About the only thing I would change and would pay more for it would be to remove the resin pieces on the band and face to make it all metal.
I bought the newer model from amazon a month ago 😁 its my favourite g shock. I still have my old one which works perfectly. I had to have the battery changed after 10 or 15 years and its not waterproof anymore because the guy told me he'd have to send it away to get it re sealed and it would cost about 70 quid !!.
I, too, love my G-Shock, a GW300. It has the exact same features as yours. Just sharing my experience: I had to replace the battery once. Unfortunately, "solar" does not mean battery free. The watch runs on a rechargeable battery, which would eventually die. And it is a few dollars more than the regular lithium button battery. Another thing I have noticed is that the crystal has held up very well. Mine is still scratch free so far. I suspect the ring around it really gives it extra protection.
Thanks for this video. Have been thinking about upgrading my old trusy G2310 stainless. It's my EDC, still going strong from 2004. The battery only displays 4 out of 5 now, but not bad considering its age. The main reason I want the atomic timesetting feature.
Thank you soo much! My dad gave this watch to me and I couldn't figure it out. I watched the whole video and had to slow some parts down or pause, but I understand this watch alot more now! Again thank you so much!
Found this video while looking for instructions to resize bracelet. This bracelet whose intermediate pins that are SIMILAR to the clasp pin at the end was new to me (particularly because I've only ever removed intermediate pins by pushing them right through from the outside) . And although it seemed fairly obvious to me - simply because the pin was just not accessible from the outside, just because the watch is new, I wasn't too comfortable going ahead with what I thought I was supposed to do without reassuring myself that that's exactly what I was supposed to do. So that's how I made use of this video. P.S- I usually took it to the local jeweler for resizings but I've watched jewelers fumble with it as well before I figured - I was probably better off reassuring myself first and doing it by myself
Thank you ElmertheClep. Without your clip I would never ever think about DIY adjusting the bracelet of my new mtg900. I had finally adjusted the bracelet with my wife's help. Thanks!
I've had mine for over 10yrs I love it. I wear it every day hardly ever take it off. Only problems I've had with mine is I've had to get the pins in the band replaced 4 or 5 times but I've had it over 10yrs and I'm rough on it,and the I had to replace the piece between the band and the watch and it was hard to find replacement parts. That being said it is still the best watch I've ever owned I love it and would recommend this watch to anyone.
Thought I'd add my experience with the Waveceptor watch. I bought it about 7 years ago thinking that it will be the end all to watch purchases. I loved the watch but over the years I had some issues. On one occasion the watch pin wore through the plastic retainer and I had not noticed that the watch had fallen off my wrist . Luckily I was able to retrace my foot steps and recover the watch. The repair was not expensive or difficult. Currently , the watch has not been charging fully even after letting it sit in the sun for several hours forcing me to reset it . I thought about getting the battery replaced but it would probably cost me almost as much as a new watch. I therefore decided to try an automatic watch.
I had the original version that you are currently showing in a now actually have the same exact watch. It just doesn't have the memo function anymore. Actually really nice watch. I wear it everyday.
Excellent review! At this moment, I've owned mine (with the original battery) for nine years! It is an amazing, maintenance-free, highly accurate watch.
I love mine. My wife bought it for me at least 14 years or so ago. My battery did die at about 11 years. Be careful, it takes a very special battery (CTL1616) and using a standard CR1616 is "bad".
2024 I've had this watch for over 15 yrs never needed battery never broken has taken considerably amount of wear and damage. I live and die by this watch this is the best g shock I will ever own and once u get one, which u can still find new ones or used u won't wear another watch ever again
george attallah It’s a G shock. You can dive 660 feet (200M), and beat it half to death and it won’t die. G shocks are worn by police, military, fire departments, Ambulance workers, outdoorsmen, and pretty much anyone who works outside. Watch some torture tests of g shocks. This watch is no different.
Thanks for the video I never got the proper book with my watch and had no clue about the auto say light savings time you just saved me a lot of headaches thanks again.
This is an excellent review but lacks timestamps and titles. Can you please add at least 1 timestamp for how to set the time? The setting time was around 7:40 into the video.
Few things strike me about this watch. First the numerals seem to be twice as big as most other G Shocks-easy legibility. The form factor seems very organic, curves everywhere so even though its not a small watch i would imagine its easy to wear. Also that shiny stainless bezel with the button indicators engraved into it gives the watch a certain exclusivity. Great looking watch.
5:48 - What a pity that this feature (Time Memo) is only present in a few Casio models. If my GW‑M5610U had this feature, it would make my GW‑9400 (Rangeman) almost unnecessary. I just have some complaints about the Rangeman, and unfortunately I haven't heard anything about its successor yet. I wonder if this ancient MTG‑900 model has been updated? And what other models have this Time Memo feature.
Great report on watch. I just ordered this watch from Amazon as my first G-Shock. Like the Atomic clock, tuff Solar and shock resistance. Did it come with extra links?
Great! You are a Master describing, Cascio should pay you, very much to the point and precise, easy to understand with a simple and fluent vocabulary...From 1 to 10 I will give you 11
This is such a great video! Thanks for posting! I've had mine since 2009 and never replaced the battery. I live in California and receive the time update. How cool is that?!? I am wondering how yours is working these days. Please respond.
Great video!!!! I have the all black version. I bought it about 6 years ago! Because of you now I know how to use all features on this amazing watch! Just wondering what the new version is called! I think its about time a got another g shock!!!
I can't speak to the durability of the pushpins, but they make it easy to take out or put in links. In contrast, the pin and collar style is so tedious, and those collars are super easy to lose.
When you take out those spring-loaded pushpins, make sure they don't go shooting off into the stratosphere, not to be found ever again. I learned the hard way! ☹
I've had mine for the past 12 years. Still love it. Mine's black. I'm going to change the battery very soon cause it doesn't hold a charge for long. Not bad for a 12 year old watch.
I am on my second one. I had the first one for seven years and I am on three years on the second one. Unfortunately the first one was stolen. My favorite watch ever and the only watch I will buy.
I was looking at this watch as a gift for guys. This looks like a really good work/beater watch, with the exception that maybe it's heavy and it lacks a 24hr timer and a year display. My PAW-1500 has all these features and more, and this watch has all the features that are most important in real world usage.. in this order: SOLAR/ATOMIC/AUTO-EL. The rest are kind of frivolous but fun. I would probably get bored with the MTG-900 and tired of it being heavy, but I'm thinking for a dude that works construction or is really abusive with watches, this might be the watch them.
I thinking what could be the use of a time memo and the only thing I can think of is to record punching in and out at work to keep a personal record of your work day. Other than that I don’t known how to better use it.
I think we're working on 15 years now having this watch.. 👍 the only thing is I can't get his to say Auto it just does daylight savings Time on or off.. but if that's the only problem I have I'll take it!

Isn't heavy; my complaint is that is relative small to be a men's watch (compared to my Casio ProTreks).
Thank you! Finally someone shows how to set it. I love the watch!
I've had mine for 17 years and only just fitted a new battery .It's the best watch I've ever had .
So many great features there, shock resistance, wave ceptor, solar, what an amazing mix!!!
I keep min in a windowsill when not in use to keep the charge up this will go a long way in keeping you cell / watch going for a long time.
i still have casio Gshock MTG-700M-9 still running well, 22 years old
Great video... I still have mine... Got it in a Las Vegas Walmart for $150 in 2005 im on my 12th year (2017). Reason I liked it was it somehow nerdy, sporty, classy looking all at once. Anything your wearing from workout gear to a 3 Piece Suit it works.
I call it my digital Rolex :)
only complaint is pin came loose over and over and it came off my wrist outside and I lost it somewhere...
Trying to find one in black.
I love mine. Never have any problems with it. Holds up well and is fitted tightly, so I can go anywhere in water with it,
I bought the newer model from amazon a month ago 😁 its my favourite g shock. I still have my old one which works perfectly. I had to have the battery changed after 10 or 15 years and its not waterproof anymore because the guy told me he'd have to send it away to get it re sealed and it would cost about 70 quid !!.
How much was for it? I think the price went up to 136 USD for me on amazon.
I have the newer version of this watch (GW-500A) and love it.
Thanks for the video, very informative.
Still have the watch now? Still working well?
A new battery is around $25. Hope you can revive it with that!
Getting this watch for Christmas. Glad we made a smart choice. Thanks.
I had the original version that you are currently showing in a now actually have the same exact watch. It just doesn't have the memo function anymore. Actually really nice watch. I wear it everyday.
just bought it and will use it everday! i love it!
I have my watch since 2002 or 2003. It still works. Best watch ever in my life.
still have it now?
@@simonthewatchguy6073 Yes, still in use 👍
@@StoppschildTV awesome!! Thanks for the quick reply
@@simonthewatchguy6073 no problem, just been online. Here's a very short look on it last saturday:

Excellent review! At this moment, I've owned mine (with the original battery) for nine years! It is an amazing, maintenance-free, highly accurate watch.
Still have the watch now?
I like these watches bullet proof !!!
Fantastic watch. I have many other G's and more expensive autos but still wear this one often. One of the few watches I won't ever part with.
Thanks for this great review. What I needed the most was how to re-size the metal band. Thanks
I actually just bought one of those, (The Newer version) at Walmart for $95.00 Great watch. Great video as well. Thank you explaining the features.
is it any good? Can you swim/dive with it?
george attallah It’s a G shock. You can dive 660 feet (200M), and beat it half to death and it won’t die. G shocks are worn by police, military, fire departments, Ambulance workers, outdoorsmen, and pretty much anyone who works outside. Watch some torture tests of g shocks. This watch is no different.
@@georgefa I've gone swimming with mine. Just a deep swimming pool though. Not like scuba diving or anything.
Thanks for the in-depth review! I ordered the newer model of the watch today.
where?
Thanks for the video I never got the proper book with my watch and had no clue about the auto say light savings time you just saved me a lot of headaches thanks again.
Thanks for the detailed review. I have 3 G-Shocks and intend to own more!
Have it. And it's a great watch, a favourite.
How to reset A Casio watch model 3053
2:24 Indiglo feature?? Timex anyone 🤣 just kidding awesome video Greg! I love electro-luminescent light ✌🏼😎👍🏼
I got mine today. Happy with it.
I've had that watch in a gun metal grey!! Really good watch!!
Yep - Had mine 20 years. Replaced battery once. Favorite thing fo rme is the ergonomics. Press big central button below the dial for a night light.
I have an old MTG-M900DA. Does not have the last receive strength bars in bottom right. Probably bought around 2008. Still love this watch.
Thank you very much. This video was well done and your explanations were superb.
Thank you, first time after 10nyears finaly maneged to adjust time and date 😂😂😂
Great video!!!! I have the all black version. I bought it about 6 years ago! Because of you now I know how to use all features on this amazing watch! Just wondering what the new version is called! I think its about time a got another g shock!!!
I can't speak to the durability of the pushpins, but they make it easy to take out or put in links. In contrast, the pin and collar style is so tedious, and those collars are super easy to lose.
Thank you for all your information.
Very good review and good points. You seems to be a nice guy! Keep it up! :) *MTG-900-user*
Wow...extremely thorough. Muchos gracias! Helps big time!
I've had mine for over 5 yrs and no problems at all...
Great review.I have the MTG-910.It's the same but black ion plated.
When you take out those spring-loaded pushpins, make sure they don't go shooting off into the stratosphere, not to be found ever again. I learned the hard way! ☹
Yes, they can really get some air when you least expect it! Choose your work location carefully.
I've had mine for the past 12 years. Still love it. Mine's black. I'm going to change the battery very soon cause it doesn't hold a charge for long. Not bad for a 12 year old watch.
Did you change battery? Still working?
Great video - I'm sold !
Comprehensive information. 👍
Good demo, Thanks.
How easy is it to replace the bracelet with a resin strap? Its the only thing keeping me from purchasing it at the moment
I thinking what could be the use of a time memo and the only thing I can think of is to record punching in and out at work to keep a personal record of your work day. Other than that I don’t known how to better use it.
Ho do i adjust the band? The holes arent on the ends
What would be the use of the time memo?
I think we're working on 15 years now having this watch.. 👍 the only thing is I can't get his to say Auto it just does daylight savings Time on or off.. but if that's the only problem I have I'll take it!
