  • I got sent this plastic blank to try from Atlas Games, it's mostly made from melted High Density Polyethylene HDPE, I think it's ideal... The shape is quite nice and on the lathe it's also softer than wood, easier to shape, and this is the plastic I made into a glass with legs, the results are quite good and unique, but I found a problem when I was going to attach the wood to this plastic, I used resin glue but it couldn't stick when the plastic and the wood were turned thin and the result was that the wood separated from the plastic, maybe there is something wrong If you know of a good glue for attaching wood to plastic, please comment in the comments column

Bonita copa, parece que el material fuera mármol pero es resina acrilica. Excelente, felicitaciones por ese trabajo. Un cordial saludo desde Bucaramanga Colombia.

Interesting. Will you be sending the plastic shavings back to be recycled again? Seems this could become a circular economy. Thanks for sharing this video. Peace

Neat idea but also bad idea.. all those shavings are releasing microplastics into the air and environment which has become a big topic lately of how big a problem it's become!

I didn't know you could buy that kind of stuff. Each one will be different, too.

    Really nice turning.
Yes, glueing HDPE is a problem. From what I found when researching this for some things I wanted to glue up - adhesives for polyethylene include cyanoacrylate, epoxy, and UV curable adhesives. Use primer Permabond POP with cyanoacrylate adhesives to bond polyethylene. Cyanoacrylates set almost instantly and provide good adhesion to HDPE provided the surface is pre-treated with Permabond POP primer.
    Hope this helps.
