I never expected Don Messick to sound like that, he was truly talented along with the other voice actors at Hanna Barbera.

A lot of people who watched early Hanna-Barbera cartoons like "Ruff and Reddy", "Huckleberry Hound", and "Yogi Bear" didn't realize they were hearing Don's natural voice as the narrator. In addition to providing a voice over introduction in a lot of the episodes Don voiced Boo Boo and Ranger Smith in the Yogi Bear cartoons. Don also narrated the "Scooby's All-Star Laff-a-Lympics" series in addition to voicing Scooby and other characters. If you watch an episode of "Laff-a-Lympics" you'll hear Don doing the voice-over during the opening theme, you'll hear him do the play-by-play announcing, and you'll hear him as the voice of Scooby Doo, Boo Boo Bear, Pixie Mouse, Mumbley, Dirty Dalton, and Mr. Creeply.

Let's face it- the great Don Messick(Scooby-Doo, Papa Smurf, Droopy Dog, etc.) had to be TV animation's top voice-over man, during the 1970's, working mostly with John Stephenson(Mr. Slate, Doggie Daddy, etc.) and have done voice-overs not only for Hanna-Barbera and Ruby-Spears, but also Rankin-Bass, DePatie-Freleng, Filmation, Warner Bros. and that long list went on and on. He was also part of many ensemble voice-over casts over the years. Today, people, such as Frank Welker, Peter Cullen, Jim Cummings, Rob Paulsen, Jeff Bergman and many others have greatly admired Don's work!!!

Thanks for uploading this!! There's precious few video out there of the late Don Messick displaying his incredible vocal talents. He was also the voice of Astro on "The Jetsons" and a whole lot of other cartoon characters too numerous to mention. I loved seeing him display his ventriloquism, too.

I was Directing that show when he was a guest and had a chance to talk with him. I got to work with Don in a round about way. He recorded "DJ" tapes for a classical radio station I worked at (KDB 93.7 in Santa Barbara). I'd receive the tapes from him, then add in the programming. I was blown away when I realized he was Scooby Doo, and he actually looked like Pappa Smurf at the time (1993-1994).

There's a printed interview with Don and he mentions that he got the role when someone at Hanna-Barbera discovered that the character's original voice actor, John Stephenson, had a similar sound comparable to Mike Road, the voice of Race Bannon and so the company decided to bring in Don Messick to take over the Dr. Benton Quest role. Don returned to the role in the later versions of Jonny Quest, too.

One thing i have noticed is that most voice actors seem to be very good extemporaneous communicators, and i guess that goes with the territory of the job. OMG as i am writing this, he mentions that he was/did the voice of the "son" of Barney Rubble (Bam Bam). Interestingly put.
