Thank you for this post. I’m an 80 year old that still cares about how I dress. I have really learned to search for vintage high quality clothes. Your shoe collection let me know that you are an average class man that enjoys looking well. You shop where most of us shop. I just can’t do 4 and 500 dollar shoes. I'm 59 years old and I like your style. Get some shoe trees. It will keep your very nice collection looking fresh. It takes out that crease near the ball of the foot.
Hi to give some info from Britain - the 2nd pair you refer to as Chukka's in the UK are called desert wellies or desert boots - they were initially designed by a UK company called Clarks for desert warfare in WW2 - they still make them . The gummy soles are called crepe soles in the UK. They are considered a design classic in the UK.
I'm from the US and I have always known them as crepe soles and YES, desert boots are fantastic. Didn't know they originated in the UK. Going there in a few days in fact. Might have to check out some shoes. Any recommendations for stores? I'll be in the Knotting Hill area. Cheers!
Due to a life threatening illness, I have been wearing sweatpants and slippers for 2 years. Staying home. NOW I'm coming back with black Chinos and brown wingtips. THANKS 😊

I’ve got a pair of black whole cuts from Ace Marks that I get I get a ton of compliments on. There was literally zero break in period and they look great even when I dress them down. They are by far my favorite pair in my collection.
Great video and great advice. For someone like myself that’s really plain and simple, I have very few shoes. But that’s just me. I have 1 pair of an everyday shorts or jeans shoe, 2 pairs of an office “casual Friday” (black & brown), 1 pair of running/workout shoe, and 2 pairs of dress shoes (black & brown) that will go with any formal occasion. When a shoe wears out I replace it with another one that fits in my wardrobe. I spend a a lot of time finding one shoe that is my style for every occasion.
My problem is I can afford anything but my feet are size 16, I’m XXXL, 100 pounds overweight, 6’7”. Barker of earls Barton are my go to brand in the uk and would definitely recommend the winsford black Oxford hand lasted shoes, have owned my pair for years and polish them every time I use them and use cedar shoe trees and they are still like new!

Like you're brown ones in the tennis shoes section of this vid...well...I quickly discovered today, after walking a mile, these are NOT for walking! OUCH! BIG ol blister on the back of my heel now...but Imma keep trying! LOVE THE VIDEOS!!
My good leather shoes are from Church's which I acquired long ago in Chicago, including a white buck wingtip. Recently, I acquired a white buck plain toe from eBay, brand new Nunn Bush. I recommend that you try a white buck and alternate with your white sport shoes. I bought a lace up, ankle style, leather suede boot in dark navy from L.L.Bean. Also, same style from Sperry in a kind of creamsickle shade of suede leather. Both are waterproof. And, finally, Sperry CVO style shoes in navy, creamsickle, and a darker shade of creamsickle, and one of their white athletic looking Sperry boat shoes. I recommend that any buyer can up his game by getting some Sperry shoes for casual wear with jeans or chinos. They do not have to be the Sperry boat shoes that we grew up knowing because Sperry has many much more variety nowadays.
For black i would add allen edmonds park ave, Magnanni sean Chelsea boot, Common projects fashion sneaker or derby. You could also add a pair of driving mocs in brown or tan. I like one's tod's brand make.
Great options, thanks! I didn't show them, but I do have a few pairs of driving moc's. One medium brown from Nordstrom 1901, and another suede blue from Aldo. They're both getting worn out, so I need to replace those too. Thanks for watching!
I know I’m late but I recommend a pair of Allen Edmonds Black Cap Toed shoes. I was lucky to find a pair at Nordstrom on sale for $200 15 years ago and they are still in great condition.
Growing up as a child in the UK & into my teens my mother always shopped for my shoes at Russell & Bromley & Bally, so I've got a bit of a soft spot for their shoes even today. They are of good quality & they have some nice designs too. As I got older I opted for Gucci as my main shoe brand, among others I must add, but they were the brand I opted for mostly, as I really liked, not only their loafers but their brogues & Oxfords too, not to mention the fit just felt right, as I never had any comfort issues with any of the shoes I bought from them. Having said that, there are just so many brands out there to choose from its just a question of budget really, what one has to play with? What I will say is that a good pair of shoes "that you may have to spend a small fortune on" is always a good investment in my view... A wise soul once told me, many moons ago; that no expense should be spared for good shoes or a good mattress/bed... "Because if you're not in one, you're in the other" & "you want your journey or your sleep to be the most comfortable thing either way." I personally couldn't agree more with that quote, it has stuck with me to this day & so I will never buy cheap, poorly made shoes & my mattress/bed is quite simply a sleeper's dream...
jlc7300 You probably should. Those Allen Edmonds Strands are a worthy investment as they’ll last a lifetime if you take care of them. I got mine for $250 brand new. They have sales all the time.
Biggest mistake I've ever made is not investing in good quality shoes when i was younger, something I have now corrected. A pair of good quality goodyear welted shoes will last you 20 plus years. So paying $350 is better than buying 3 pairs of $120 shoes which fall apart.
I treat Aldo like Harbor Freight. It's a necessary evil of lesser quality to allow me to have a particular thing that will perform well for the first while, but will not hold up in the long run. I wish I could buy quality but my pockets aren't quite so deep
Band aid for the heel problem. I had that issue on some tighter shoes, after a few wears with the band aid to protect my skin, it eventually relented and stopped scratching. Great vids btw.
This is a great shoe to wear to funerals which you currently do not have a shoe you can use for this purpose. It should be a black oxford so this is perfect.
If they are good enough for the pressidents they might be ok, but I heard quality is going down, but the brown with broughing looks great to! - ha ha here the Strand apeared 30 sec after I wrote this.
Chelsea boots in chocolate, tan, and black. Engineer boots in 8" shaft and 6" shaft lengths. Side zip ankle dress boots. Vans SK8 high and SK8 Classic.
I have that same problem with the back of a shoe rubbing and breaking the skin sometimes. Dr. Scholl's makes a heel pad to insert in the shoe which usually corrects that problem. A black leather Chelsea boot is a great addition which can look good dressy and with jeans. Plain toe, elastic sides and no extraneous details. Sleek.
Yes sir! Im ultra anal when it comes to shoe trees I have about 30 pairs of different styles of shoes ranging from sneakers to patent leather dress and every single pair has a set of shoe trees, whenever I'm at the flea market if I spot either a vintage pair of metal or cedar trees I'll scoop them up because shoe trees can get a bit pricey brand new retail so what I do is throw a little metal shine on the metal type and a quick light sanding on the cedar type to bring them back to life...
@@jibbyjabbatv I love and own 20 pairs of Nords Cdr-trees but my Jordans and Jack Parcel sneaks dont get spoiled quite as much as my Coach n Ferragamo kicks😎
Black dress shoes, I would highly recommend a pair of J.M. Weston. Great shoes! A little bit pricy but they'll last forever. In the Oxford collection (Monaco or Flore)
@@jonm57 We are being nice. We happen to disagree. Why do we need to be told which shoes to buy. We're over 40. I think we've figured that much out by now. He's just another "lifestyle expert", without a lot of time on his hands. The comments are the most entertaining part.
Allen Edmunds either the Park Avenue or Fifth Avenue in black are classic “dress” shoes. I have owned and worn them for 40 years. Each was rotated daily, rested with cedar shoe trees, polished at least once a month and reecrafted by AE 3 times before their retirement. A worthy 10 plus year investment.
Allen Edmonds Park Ave are definitely a MUST. That is THE AE shoe that must be in every dapper man's wardrobe. However, if you want a cap toe that I am working hard to disproved (literally, 49 hours in it at one time with over 35 miles of walking! and it still looks new)....Anthony Veer Clintons. Half the price of AE on sale! Seriously, they are getting worm more than my Park Ave's. They are not for everyone, but I LOVE THEM.
Today I found the right no show socks. Many stores have no show socks but they all show unless the the shoes are high around the tops. Kohl's had some low cut no shoe socks hid on the corner of a sock rack. These are the right ones for sure. I love all of your choices even if other people don't approve. You would be a fun neighbor to have around. Good work.
All you need is Stich Fix. What, no cowboy boots? What do you wear on the ranch? Nothing will make a man look an old (male) nurse more than white seekers.
I thought the same thing about the white shoes. Also, every real man needs a pair of good lucchesi boots. They are the most comfortable boots to wear. I'm no longer a city guy. So western boots do me well.
I recommend the Loake Black Aldwych cap toe shoe. If want water resistance and durability then choose the rubber dainite sole if you don't mind having the leather sole repaired now and then and prefer the leather molding to your foot then choose the leather sole model. I also recommend putting your formal shoes into full cedar wood shoe trees one hour after use and giving them a good brush after every wear to keep them presentable for the next wear and depending on how often you wear them I recommend the following which I do myself : clean with Avel regenerating soap (a mild and safe saddle soap) and dry with a microfibre cloth, apply saphir renovator cream (on Black leather only, for lighter colour leather use Saphir delicate cream) for the conditioning it contains mink oil and wax's and will keep the leather in tip top condition, brush that off then saphir black shoe cream, brush that up and you can leave it there after a good final wipe and buff using a clean cotton cloth or you can apply and shine up the toe cap and heel areas using saphir black shoe wax but this is personal choice for most of us the shine you get for the Saphir black shoe cream is more than enough. For repair jobs you can consider using Black leather dye for severely scuffed and scratched sole edges and heels of your Black leather shoes and Saphir Black edge dressing cream to restore the Black colour which makes all the difference.
For black shoes, I currently have Magnanni and Salvatore Ferragamos. They are both phenomenal. I had a pair of Cole Haans and Bruno Magli’s before. I don’t recommend them.
I live in Denver. Harsh climate for shoes. In fact, it rained on Tuesday, it was 40 degrees and then it snowed all day on Wednesday and it was 33. That was 9 May. I have about 6 pairs of Dr. Martens. They are durable which is important because I blow through delicate shoes (I am 6-5, 250, so think NFL tight end size) I have three colors of 3 eye Gibsons, some Brown Monk Straps (single strap), and oiled brown wing-tips. All in the $130 range. Not acceptable or comparable to your higher end shoes, but they can handle the elements here and they allow for changing weather and outfit needs. Like they all look good with a sport coat, jeans, chinos, etc. The look is more durable, and they allow me to go from office to construction site. Also, the salt on the roads in winter will savage an expensive shoe. I think that they look great. I have some Cole Hahns and J and Ms for dress, but I am often limited by my shoe size--14. It cuts down the choices, even online. LIke I said, this isn't high-end wear, but it is a big step up from work boots and the shoes are easily maintained and protected with Dr. Martens oil or Mink oil.
Allen Edmonds Park Avenue, Black Hale captoe(if you can find one),5th Avenue. Look on Factory Seconds Availability web site. 400.00 shoes at 119.00 to 295.00 with factory imperfections Allen Edmonds inspectors notice but you usually won't.
Vans are my go to sneaker. I wear off white Authentics. I feel the Old Skool and Era are just geared to much for younger guys, but the Authentic looks great at any age.
I have a pair of Church wing tips that I love. They have held up way better than my AE loafers too. Can’t go wrong with AE Park Avenues in black though. They’re a staple.
Let me start by saying I LOVE BUYING SHOES. High end leather shoes are very reasonable at Nordstrom Rack. I've gotten Magnanni and To Boot New York for $200 or lest if they are reduced. For black shoes my favorites are Magnanni single monk shoes or cap toe To Boot New York. I know you said you use shoe trees with your shoes, but they don't look it. They also could use a good polishing. Nordstrom main stores have shoe shine stands that charge like $3 to shine a pair of shoes.
Well the soles on the desert boots used to be called "crepe soles" in my day (67 years old now) And I own four pair of black Allen Edmonds with one pair being Shell Cordovan AE MacNeil. I'm wanting to try the Mezlan shoes as they seem to have some high quality shoes. And...anything special for over 60 advice...but I feel no older than 55 :)
All the types of shoes you're showing from 7:40 onwards are the ones I used to wear everyday when I was between 20 and 35 years old ;-) After a few years in the banking business, I went to work for a (huge) car brand in 2001. When our CEO introduced "casual friday", a few years mater, I literally stopped wearing "dressed" shoes and went 200% into "casual" shoes instead. As a matter of fact, I don't have more than 1 or 2 pairs of dressed shoes nowadays, and almost never wear them. Geox, Fila and Pepe Jeans are my favorite "casual" shoes brands: comfortable, affordable and good looking (well, at least that's what I think). Regards from Belgium. PS: the pair you show at 12:00 is the one I'd definitely buy if I was looking for new dressed shoes. Looks great !!!
I would definitely use some shoe trees as soon as I take them off. I would add some black Magnanni Sean Chelsea boots. They have several pairs of shoes in black also.
Black dress shoes...Bruno Magli cap toe oxford (apx $450/sale price about $240.00@Nordstroms or Bloomingdales) Also, Johnton & Murphy "Cartwright" cap toe oxford made in Italy (about $275) both shoes are SUPER comfortable, super soft leather.

You need a few pairs of Gucci's such as a Horsebit loafer and black cap toe.
Thats a big 10-4! Love me some Gucci horsebit loafs to rock em casual, dress or butt naked you just cant go wrong!
The guys obviously needs a decent pair or two loakes or even better church's expensive but more than worth the price
Allen Edmonds makes Horsebit loafers for a fraction of the price. They run big so go down a half size.
@@kevinl6231 Geez, to many AE already... I prefer Italian shoes. The leather is better. Gucci, Ferragamo, Santoni, or LV.
You are paying for a pretentious brand name, the quality of the shoe and leather is rubbish in comparison to what it was years ago.
Great advice, thanks! Picked up a pair of black dress sneakers today to wear at the office.
Jm Weston are for me the best brand ever for classical shoes !!!
Thanks for the top! They look great!
For dress shoes I would used- vintage Black Imperials by Johnson & Murphy or Aldens or vintage Churches.
Salvatore Ferragamo offers comfortable and tastefully designed shoes.
Bro, I'm not spendin $350.00 for shoes!
Then stop watching RUclips and get a job.
jlc7300 You probably should. Those Allen Edmonds Strands are a worthy investment as they’ll last a lifetime if you take care of them. I got mine for $250 brand new. They have sales all the time.
I know, if you step in doggy doo in them, it'll mess up your whole day.
Biggest mistake I've ever made is not investing in good quality shoes when i was younger, something I have now corrected. A pair of good quality goodyear welted shoes will last you 20 plus years. So paying $350 is better than buying 3 pairs of $120 shoes which fall apart.
You’re probably spending more than that. Well made shoes with top leather will pay you back at least 2-3 times if you take reasonable care of them.
You can't go wrong with Paul Evans! Excellent quality!
Fashion expert shoes are crying out for some love, polish and shoe trees. Disgrace
Prada and LV have timeless classic black shoes that can be resoled. Also Johnson and Murphy have black brown.
Lesson learned: dont shop at Aldo
I believe that Aldo is a poor quality shoe...🤮
I disagree. Some are really good quality
are really bad quality, if you can save money for allen edmonds or other brands same level you can realize how bad they are
I treat Aldo like Harbor Freight.
Allen Edmonds Park avenue, Classic black shoe.
Yes! I’ve looked at those and almost pulled the trigger!
This is a great shoe to wear to funerals which you currently do not have a shoe you can use for this purpose. It should be a black oxford so this is perfect.
@@MegaBoogedy Do you really purchase shoes based on their "funeral-wearability"?
Wearing the proper shoe to a funeral is about respect not fashion.
Shoe trees... Invest in them.
Sleek.
Awwww, my good little mid-age crisis consumer 😊
You may try Perry Ellis for black dress shoes. I own a few pairs. Comfortable, sharp and not too expensive.
Those Paul Evans whole cuts are 🔥🔥🔥
I’d wear them every day hahaha
For black dress shoes you can’t go wrong with the Allen Edmonds Park Avenue.
I know. I just need to put them on and go out. :)
@@40OverFashion Very nice shoes. How much did they run you...Did you buy them online? Thx :-)
That last pair was the bomb. Gotta get me some.
Agree. I'll tell my sons it will make a great birthday gift for dad
Nice collection..... but you might need shoe-trees LOL
I know, right?! I have a lot of shoe trees, but I could use a few more. Thanks for watching!
My thought exactly....the creasing on his collection is pretty bad.
@@dannymorenocpi5694 A good quality shoe tree can be found @ Nordstrom Rack for around 20$ during a sale season. They are currently 16$.
"shoe arsenal??"..."statement shoe?"...male hocus pocus lingo for 2019.
stephen maye Clocked that too. Sounded ridiculous :)
I think that's cool.
Why not?
Guys, be nice.
I didn't see anything to wear in the snow. You call those boots.
You gain a new subscriber.
Thank you my friend!!
Thursday Boots
Allen Edmonds
Clark's
Dominates my shoe closet. I'm thinking of giving the Frye and Chippewa boots a chance too.
Allen Edmunds 5615 Park Avenue cap toe Oxfords. Have a pair and love them. Elegant plus comfortable. Nice collection.
For black shoes, I currently have Magnanni and Salvatore Ferragamos. They are both phenomenal. I had a pair of Cole Haans and Bruno Magli’s before. I don’t recommend them.
This guy looks younger than me and I’m 29.
Awesome. I would suggest Loding Paris Black shoe whole cut of Brogue.
Hilarious, i'm 55 and would never wear any of the crap you do,
Peet he has no business to be talking about shoes.
I was shocked with his shoe collection. Most of the first shoes really looked like they came out of a shoe bin from a thrift shop.
B Graham 😂
i have 3 pairs of brogue ankle boots dark to mid brown across the 3 pair, surprised you dont have any as you like brown brogues, my lady loves them.
That last pair of espresso colored Paul Evans were fantastic. I may have to have those.
Vans are my go to sneaker. I wear off white Authentics. I feel the Old Skool and Era are just geared to much for younger guys, but the Authentic looks great at any age.
I love all your shoes! Specially the first and second you shown ! 😍
Worth a subscribe certainly. Great content, thanks, one or two ideas have adopted. Cheers from UK.
I would definitely use some shoe trees as soon as I take them off. I would add some black Magnanni Sean Chelsea boots. They have several pairs of shoes in black also.
Per your request, I recommend black Paul Evans cap toes. They should the trick, honestly.
Thank you!
Tod’s driving Mocs!! Appear to be the best Italian driving shoe money can buy
Ace Mark is the most expensive shoe I own! I'm amazed at how comfortable they are! And they look so elegant as well! I would love to try Paul Evans!
That's my most difficult part of getting dressed. If it is not comfortable I won't buy them. Great video. The question is do we need that much pair of shoes? LOVE, LIVE, LEARN n LAUGH MAC
Thanks for your comment! No, you do not need this many shoes. I’m actually working on reducing my collection.
For black shoes check out....Ace Marks, Allen Edmonds, Cobbler Union or Samual Hubbard (in Alphabetical order)
Cool video for the black runners I reckon it's hard to go past some black nike air 95s they go well with chinos and dark denim
