Thank you for watching and subscribing. You do not have to drive to be an au pair. It will make you a more competitive candidate, but it not required. If at all possible I would try to get any experience you can leaning to drive. Many families are to teach their au pairs how to drive or pay for them to take driving lessons. So any baseline knowledge would help. Cheers!
I am not sure if any agencies service Kenya. If you go to the US government au pair website you can find a list of authorized agencies and see if they work out of Kenya. It is possible that other countries may allow au pairs from Kenya. Good Luck! Cheers!
Isabella Hernández don’t get depressed! It is not hopeless. You can continue to work on getting driving and childcare experience! Not every family need Au pairs that drive. I will be honest and tell you that all i know do, but not all. Do all you can to get lots of childcare experience. Volunteer to watch neighbor or family members kids. All experience is helpful!!!
Isabella The Aupair Mom has given some great advice, do what you can to improve in these areas. However, I wanted to give you hope. I'm an Au pair mom too and I don't let my au pairs drive, so this is not a criteria for me. My basic criteria is strong English (my son has adhd and struggles to communicate), can swim (we have a swimspa in our backyard) and I prefer older like 20 or older but have considered old 19 year olds. These are my basics. Then I invite for an interview and want to understand if they have more important matches and chemistry with my family.
Hi I'm currently 17 from South Africa, I do plan on becoming an au pair after next year but my biggest question is how could i gain experience with children while trying to balance finishing my last year in high school as you said volunteering in places like a creche (kindergarten) is not exactly considered. Thank you.
Hey I’m also 17 and from Germany and I’m goung to the Us with Cultural Care. I did an holiday internship in a kindergarden nearby. Also I try to babysit in my family or by my neigbours. I hope I could help :)
I think this is relative. I have a friend who took a drive license years ago, but is very afraid to drive, and I know people who have had a license for months and have confidence to drive...
Pamela Biazon this is very true. However, what I wanted to point out is that when searching for Au pairs, many families set their filters to “2+ years” for driving experience. So Au pair candidates who have less than this do not get as much exposure. From there families will talk to the Au pairs and see how much they drive and how comfortable they really are driving. My goal is to get as many families to see your profile as possible, so amazing Au pairs can be matched with wonderful families! Cheers!!
I wish I had the ability to find every Au pair a wonderful family. But I am trying to help educate families on how to be a good host family and Au pairs on how to find a good family. Hopefully these help some. Cheers!
