  • Announced recently, Zeiss added the S3 lineup geared towards competition precision rifle shooters. These scopes promised to offer high quality class, modern reticles, and solid performance. But, did they deliver and all at an attractive price? Is it the best bang scope for under 2500?

I just ordered the Zeiss LRP S3 4-25 MRAD; it will be my first Zeiss product. I am really excited. I am coming from a Nightforce and a Razor Gen III; I would think the glass quality would be at least similar. I really enjoy the looks of the reticle and the illumination; the 1 MIL illuminated cross seems like it will nicely draw my eye to center for low light shooting. The FOV looks excellent as well. It will be on a work gun; none of my teammates have used a Zeiss optic either. Hopefully it will blow our socks off and they will be ordering them as well. Still enjoying yours?

I've enjoyed mine. Running at max elevation I did get shadowing top edge which reduced image size. But basically 5 mils from both extremes it's still great.

There is one thing that buggs me about the s3. Ive had 3 6-36 and 4 4-25 in my hands and with every elevation turret it lines up perfectly from 0-3mils, then all the way to 7 it gets slightly misaligned and from 8-10 it will alignt perfectly again.

I have the s3 4-25. I’ll second the magnification going the wrong way. It has not made me mess up during a match but it’s noticeable when your trying to lower magnification during a stage.

I asked the Zeiss Rep about this and they stated that was an intentional design, that way if you’re using the extended mag knob, when you have it higher magnification you dont hit it running the bolt.

Would sure like to see a long term followup review to see how reliable the LRP S3 actually is and how the warranty process and what the turnaround time is.

Haven’t had to use the warranty so thats a good sign. Since this video I also had in on a 16in 308 for a while and no issues.

Did anyone find the parallax on the scope frustrating, not having a reference mark?

windage limiter ... NF atacr has it as well which is also stupid in a scope of 160 moa ... At least with the S3 the pin inside the windage cap is removable unlike the NF !

My V4 is holding up well. A lot of dialing.

How does the glass compare to the Gen 3 Razor?

    • @GunsandTactics

I’d give the g3 razor an edge

    • @hoosierrampage1877

This is more comparable to the tract 4-25 or gen 2 razor than to the gen 3 razor in glass quality.

@@hoosierrampage1877 The Tract Toric ELR is in fact roughly $800 cheaper than this Zeiss LRP S3 at $1494.00 regular price. It's rather surprising how much these scopes are obviously marked up since Tract Optics are direct to consumer without any middleman.
The other noticeable difference is the difference in their warranty. Tract has a lifetime warranty including their electronics while Zeiss is lifetime but only have a limited 5 year warranty on their electronics such as their illuminated reticles.

I think only the Sightron SVIII 5-40x56 and March can actually compete with the Vortex Razor Gen 3 in glass quality in the sub $3000 price point.

honesty $2500 is the most I would pay. but for only $1000, the burris veracity PH, HUD 4-20x, has everything needed, minus illumination. and it's a better option for newbies because of the new simplified tech'... anything under 1200 yards the burris 4-20x will do with ease. if I had $2500 to spend, I'd buy 2 scopes rather than 1 zeiss s3

The Tract Toric ELR version of this Zeiss LRP S3 is in fact roughly $800 cheaper. The Burris isn't the same level as these scopes especially the glass isn't that good. The minimum Burris I'd recommended with reasonably clear glass is the XTR3. If I were you I'd buy the Tract Toric ELR version next time it's on sale December 1st for 10% off so $1350 shipped as long as you don't live in NY otherwise you pay extra for tax and if you're military or law enforcement you get 15% off anytime so under $1300 and the warranty for the Tract Toric ELR is definitely better than the Zeiss warranty.
