As far as indie games go I thought Firewatch was a really beautiful world. Having natural landscapes but done in an artistic almost cartoon style was really imaginative. Opened my eyes to the fact that you don’t always need realism to be immersed in a world.
Nice list! Also I like how you describe the game worlds. Well done. For me the most immersive and beautiful game worlds have been Zelda breath of the wild and the Witcher 3. Botw making you feel lost in its beauty, where you never know what’s going to be around the corner. This mixed with its temperature mechanics, cooking, wildlife and great physics engine, made the world come to life. The Witcher 3 on the other hand wins you over with it’s ambiance. The towns, the music, the sounds, the dialogue, the npcs. It comes together quite nicely and you feel like a part of the struggling world.
I’m so happy to see Ori on here, such and Underappreciated game. It can make you feel for characters you just met without a single word. Absolutely amazing story, characters, design and I will never get over the visuals & soundtrack. Def one of the best
I cannot agree more, the visuals and amazing boss fights are some of the best i've ever seen. And when you're taking on one of the huge bosses the soundtracks hit so hard.
Assassin's creed is also amazing! I particularly fell in love with Odyssey, Origins, and Valhalla! Stunning worlds! It makes me feel like I am living there in the moment, and I could just walk for hours without doing anything! It truly is such a slay! 💟✨🌍
I haven’t deleted ghost of Tsushima yet since it came out. I might delete it to play a new game but once it’s done I redownload GOT and play again. The combat, the environment, the story is just amazing!!!
Elden Ring is so big, has so many out of the way areas, so many awe inspiring scenes, so much design, lore, things to find, rabbit holes, it’s crazy. Every time you think, think is it, there can’t be any more, there’s more. It is an experience like no other in gaming that I have seen.
I don't know how or why this popped up in my recommended today but i'm glad it did. I'm 13 minutes in without skipping and i love it. It must have taken a lot of time to get all these amazing shots and edit them. Great job!
This is the difference between aesthetics and fidelity that corporations will never understand. Yeah, the gameplay systems and mission structure of Skyrim deserve a lot of criticism, but its visual design philosophy of "epic reality" combined with Jeremy Soule's soundtrack that folds into the world so much so that the music almost seems diegetic... it was lightning in a bottle, something that I'm doubtful Bethesda will ever be able to recreate in this climate of empty, boring, AI-generated worlds.
A video about beautiful game worlds that doesn't mention Assasin's Creed Odyssey? One of the most realistic environments I've ever had the pleasure to play in with an off the charts level of detail. Varied topography and beautifully lit at both day and night. A bright and sunny mediterranean colour pallete and brilliantly realistic, deep oceans. A world packed with animals and people all going about their daily business with context based NPC dialog that is at times scarilly real. A huge gam map also. An incredible achievement which more than warrented mention here in this video
@@granthudson5851 Dark doesn't have to mean "pitch black". Because of certain reasons I haven't been able to do any serious gaming for a long time, but the first game I played that had the most realistically dark environments was Dying Light.
I'm surprised The Last of Us 2 isn't there. I found that game world to be insane with visual detail. Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom would be other picks of mine. Those games look incredible for running on the Switch. That said, I'm very happy to see Inside and Subnautica.
Some of my favorite worlds are Albion from the Fable series and the world from Jak and Daxter! Glad you included Alan Wake and Shadow of the Colossus as those games are steeped in atmosphere! Valheim has so much beauty despite its smaller file size! The Batman Gotham series and the new Spiderman are also favorites!
Kingdom Come: Deliverance has the most beautiful forests and nature I've seen in a video game, as well as one of the best game worlds of all time for sure.
The thing about Elden ring is it is massive , literally every single part you see on the map can be explored (except the sea) What makes this map even more massive is there are also underground areas that are huge . I finished Elden ring three times yet I keep finding new and new stuff and areas I literally never knew existed, and the fact that it is not auto generated and still this massive shows how much work was put in this game , more than 230 bosses , massive areas , everywhere you go is spectacular , that is not even talking about the quality of the gameplay , insane boss fights that are difficult to beat , the combat is so smooth and fluid , and there are a TON of weapons and spells and incantations to choose from , this game is a beauty , I will never forget the first time I opened the door from the tutorial cave to limgrave.
Came across this video and subbed before the 20 minute mark. Most of these games are in my list of favorites and you were able to articulate why better than I could. Some I need to give a second chance (Red Dead Redemption 2, Subnautica) and some I hope to get a physical copy of someday (Valheim and Alan Wake 2) but the games in this video was incredible. Death stranding has the most breath taking, most refined, carefully carved opening. the music, camera angle, and scenes, all mixed extermely well. even if you don't play further, that beginning is still worth experiencing.

Great list! Only game world I would have added was Bioshock. There was something hauntingly beautiful about Rapture that I've seen other games try and emulate, but fail stupendously.
All of your selected games are beautiful. So happy to see Journey as one of your picks. First playthrough was an incredibly emotional experience. Have never had a similar reaction in 40 yrs of gaming.
Amazing video, really enjoyed it, although i would agrue that witcher 3 deserves a spot in the video, it's probably the most immersive world in gaming, well atleast for me
Nah lol
Yes, I agree. Witcher 3 has an incredibly beautiful and full world.
Skyrim is better

Immersive? Worst word to call Witcher 3, it's one of the most decorative RPG I ever played, that's why this game always feels so empty for me
I absolutely loved Horizon: Forbidden West and if you can you have to play it on a newer OLED TV screen because older HD TVs just do this world such a disservice. It's the most beautiful game I've ever played. Jaw-dropping photorealism.
While I like RDR2 and Ghost of Tsushima's art direction more, I have to agree that from a technical standpoint, HFW's visual detail is the best I have personally ever seen from a console game. Very surprised to see some people say SM2 looked better, because I definitelly disagree with them lol
I felt like this with Zero Dawn. Just astonishing
Then you realize how boring the game is
@@jvillain9946 disagree. I didn't find the game boring at all. While I wouldn't say it had the BEST story of all open world games, it was an interesting world to play in and they did a good job world-building imo

More immersive than RDR2?

GTA IV's Liberty City is a living, breathing world. Gives you a feeling that that city is still moving & getting on its way even if you're not there.

Elden Ring is such a beautiful game. The first time I went underground, my jaw dropped.
Elden Ring is simply breathtaking. I have never been so awe-inspired by a game until this masterpiece came out.
This is a wonderfully edited and scripted video… the audio design is super high quality thats what tells me youre going places. Keep puttin in that work!
Thank you for the kind words it means a lot!
This list feels incomplete without the witcher 3 world
100% agree, the witcher 3 is just magical world to explore
Agreed!
A little sad he put it on the list but decided to not talk about it and sneak in starfield instead 😭
Assassin’s Creed worlds are beautiful too
1 hour of the best narrative I have ever heard. Not boring! Not ugly! VERY NICE!
Really appreciate that thanks for watching!
@@FranklyGaming often times the repeated use of the same words makes it boring to watch and I skip! This narrative was immersive and tailored for every game title you put in the video!
Quick question, do I get PS5 or a gaming PC to play all these games?
you should include the last of Us 2 itys post apocalyptic scenes are one of the best looking out there . the lighthing and the destruction of the city, town are stunningly beautiful
RDR2 is a movie! If Rockstar created this then, imagine what GTA6 will be like and it’s not out for another year!
Great story telling. I was surprised to see you have less than a million subscribers. Keep up the good work and you’ll be there in no time.
Really appreciate that!
When you started talking about Red Dead Redemption 2, my mind blocked out what you were saying (I'm sorry, this is a wonderful video
God of War Ragnarok is pretty mind-blowing and also the sound and gameplay. I'm pretty surprised nobody is mentioning this.
The way you narrate it makes me wanna play all the games
Glad to hear it thanks!
That Witcher 3 not being on the list is bad enough, but the fact that you have a timestamp saying 'Witcher 3 or Starfield,' suggesting you picked Starfield over it, cuts me deeply. Top 5 all-time beautiful world for me
I have to say, your videos honestly show me their is still hope for gamers who appreciate story based games. Being born in ‘98 and my dad getting me and my brothers a Nintendo 64 when I was just 5 years old started me down a path of heavy gaming that lasts to this day, but i definitely feel how todays games often focus on the market of battle royales. Nothing wrong with them, but I’ve never really a huge fan of them, since my love has always been for quality story telling In single player campaigns. Seeing your videos brings me hope that there is still a market for quality story telling, and videos like this “quality world building” video (as well as a lot of the videos on your channel) show me there are still gamers out there that appreciate and value the same things I do when it comes to this beautiful and quality industry / medium. Really appreciate the time you put into these videos Frankly!! Keep it up !
thanks so much for the kind words and support!
I wish we had more gamers like you, ngl. Being able to dislike something without being an elitist cvnt about is like winning the lottery nowadays, smh.....

It a beautiful game but it so empty and dead.
@Medjiman979 that's weird, I didn't get that vibe at all. Did we play the same game? What are you comparing it to when you say "empty and dead?"
Skyrim music always gives me huge huge goosebumps because I get so many flashbacks 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The assassins creed games.
All of them were and/or are breathtaking. As divisive as valhalla was, one thing it had going for it was its breathtaking scenery.
Same with origins, unity, syndicate, and even odyssey.
Sad that Far Cry 4 was not featured in this video, the Himalayan setting in this game is mind-blowing for a 2014 game.
I really enjoyed the setting of Farcry 5. The setting was wonderfully supported by the music.
I am even more so surprised by the fact that no one in even the comments said anything about fc4 or even any of the fc for that matter.
Current version of Cyberpunk 2077 and red dead redemption 2 are amazing game worlds, prey and daus ex have great interactive small worlds as well.
Love prey and deus ex
@@FranklyGaming Any gamer that dines on the finest of open world games know that immersive sims are the best. Prey, Deus Ex, Metro Exodus etc etc. Pumping out games like Farcry are not going to be remembered, that why Starfield failed gamers expectations and why I think the upcoming open world Avatar game is going to fail. By the way, did you know there was an Avatar game that came out when the movie released? I think I still have the demo saved somewhere. The game world was somewhat impressive, but nothing else was.
Nothing compares to 2011-standing outside Whiterun, looking up at the aurora borealis lighting up Skyrim's night sky, with the music playing in the background.

There is just nothing like Skyrim. It’s more than a game it’s a feeling 💙
Excactly 😉
You forgot Greece in AC:Odyssey. No discussion about that.

I haven’t deleted ghost of Tsushima yet since it came out. I might delete it to play a new game but once it’s done I redownload GOT and play again. The combat, the environment, the story is just amazing!!!
Assassins Creed: Valhalla, despite its controversy, Ubisoft made an incredible looking world.

Absolutely great !!!
Thank you very much!
Elden Ring is so big, has so many out of the way areas, so many awe inspiring scenes, so much design, lore, things to find, rabbit holes, it’s crazy. Every time you think, think is it, there can’t be any more, there’s more. It is an experience like no other in gaming that I have seen.

Thanks for watching!

So, is darkness actually _dark_ in AC: Odyssey?
The night landscape is lit by a huge Mediterranean moon which is realistic to the environment

Modded Skyrim exploring feels like exploring a real world.
GOT, Skyrim, Rdr2 and Horizon are definitely one of my favorites to explore. The vibe is simply different
The beauty seen was so heart warming I would have cried.
Couldn't agree more, Albion and Jak.
Ac origins should be here or even Odyssey
I'm so glad Ghosts of Tsushima is coming to PC. Going to look epic.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance has the most beautiful forests and nature I've seen in a video game, as well as one of the best game worlds of all time for sure.
The thing about Elden ring is it is massive , literally every single part you see on the map can be explored (except the sea)
What makes this map even more massive is there are also underground areas that are huge .

Fortnite came over and took over my life, turning me into a full blown gamer whenever I could, withdrew from that before i got too bad, and then expanded into new territories with my new ps5. I was already enjoying other games, I just never appreciated the details, graphics or how the mechanics functioned. I’ve got a much more in depth appreciation for games now, which is kind of what I meant to say about the cyberpunk thing.
