Dr. Don't you etch the surface before bonding? Also whats the purpose of blockout? Why dont you start prepping directly?

Great questions! MGI Liner does not require polyacrylic acid surface preparation to modify the smear layer, however, it may be used. The clean dentin surface has numerous bondable interfaces without using the PAA step. The purposes of the block out include many advantages including: saves tooth structure by filling in dentin undercuts, provides for e clean start to every prep, conserves gold, allows for optimal pulpal and axial depths, allows for a smooth wax pattern and casting, facilitates cementation.

Thank you very much for your lesson! I have a question. Can I use self-curing GI such as Fuji IX for block-out?

Yes, it has good compressive strength, and all of the benefits, except command setting, which is fine - just takes a little longer.

Very wonderful educational video sir. I would like to ask you is it ok to replace the core material with ordinary composit?

Sure - this is fine as well just need to insure that it's fully cured since it's not usally dual cure

what is the difference between hatchet/ chisel/ gingival margin trimmer ? and which one I have to buy if my speciality is operative?

Hi Doc - A Hatchet is in the Chisel category, but is named such because the blade is rotated 90 degrees relative to the handle and it is used like an axe/hatchet when cutting. Chisels are everything else and have a 90 degree cutting edge relative to the blade and the blade is in line with the handle. GMTs are curved bladed and have an angled cutting edge. I would own the following for operative: Hatchet, Bin-angle chisel, Straight chisel (Wedelstaedt), Off-angle chisels (mesial and distal) and GMTs (mesial and Distal) and perhaps a small 1 mm Hoe and an Angle Former. Check out Sturdevant - The Art and Science of Operative Dentistry for a reference.
