Of all the genres, I in no way anticipated dungeon synth to suddenly spike in popularity. It used to just be the domain of the nerdiest of the cave-dwelling black metal nerds.
I honestly wasn't even sure if I'd get a hit when I decided to search for the term 'dungeon synth' on youtube. Just figured it would be way too niche. Was I ever wrong...
@@wizardsynth2797 I'm not gonna argue with that. I've seen countless AI-run channels that are most probably fully automated from production to release. Just meant that it certainly was a bad assumption on my part that it wouldn't even exist. At least there are some gems out there that are worthwhile.
Well said. Very of the era. First track feels like something out of Blackthorne, Warcraft II, or thereabouts. Not point and clicks, I know, but same vibe.
Don't be afraid of the treants, they're all bark and no bite. It can be a little hard to find them with all the branching paths, but definitely listen to their advice, they always get to the root of the problem!
I'm 32 slightly drunk, grew up playing ocarina of time, was listening to black metal when I was 12 but holy shit this is such a goofy guilty pleasure right now. Not dissing the musician but damn that midi pack dungeon synth lol. Not a bad composer though
My dog died two months ago. I listen to this almost daily now. Really comforts me when I miss her. Especially Waltz of Thieves, reminds of what was stolen from me... my puppy. My Beryl. Thanks for the comforting music.
How have I in my 27 years of living never heard this genre of music, like sure I’ve played older games with these types of tracks but never have I sought it out as it’s own thing. This is some magical stuff.
This sounds like something straight out of a Camelot game. Like the Golden Sun soundtrack. Easily one of the best Dungeon Synth albums I've heard in a long while.
"A new day" at the end made me so viscerally happy that I damn near cried. If I had just beaten a game and got that in the ending credits, it would get an entire extra point on the review score.
That first track sounds like medieval trap music. Something is going down in Robin's hood. The rest of the album reminds me of "Daggerfall," "Legend of Dragoon," and "Brave Fencer Musashi."
I recommend track 2 "The Waltz of Thieves" if you want to feel like an evil little goblin toiling away over like a vat of poison or something in an underground lair for the big Boss Goblin
I just know the tree to the left of the middle is going to send me on a quest to find 90 Golden Acorns scattered throughout the game. Just has that look to him.
I love this. I feel ready to hang out in a tavern and get my battle party ready to go into the nearest dungeon to save the local village from the evil monsters and other fun junk and stuff! 🌳🌲🌳
Castlesiege - The Council of Trees, the first game in the Castlesiege series was released in 1990. It was developed by Parallel Universe Interactive and became one of the most popular adventure games of the 90s. It told the story of young Thomas the Spellchanter and his companion Marle the Fox as they sought the help of the eponymous Council of Trees in returning balance to the increasingly chaotic magic in the land of Arva, and finding answers about Thomas' mysterious origins. The soundtrack to the game received particular acclaim, and an extended album version was released later that year.
Track 2 im imagining a finely dressed rogue sneaking into a masquerade and pickpocketing old ladies while they are weak in the knees from his charisma, fans briskly fanning to prevent fainting.
Makes me ponder on my many hours playing Wizards and Warriors on the Nintendo. Jumping from tree to tree in search of treasure and keys to the next level.
Was listening to a podcast today about Byzantium/Rome in Metal music and dungeon synth was mentioned. Curious I looked for an example on here and found this and I have to say this genre tickles my fancy, so nostalgic

not always a good thing... its essence will be diluted.

I really like Dungeon Synth and I guess I'm a nerd, loves black metal, dnd, games etc :)
Replace "black" with "death," and I'm in 🤘

Stick o' celery in one hand, OJ in the other, let's game!
this is BBB™ (based beyond belief)
I'm really into this one. Feels like an MS-DOS Point and Click Adventure track.
I thought the same. Like Kyrandia or King's Quest
Indeed, even the album art evokes Apogee Shareware.
Well said. Very of the era. First track feels like something out of Blackthorne, Warcraft II, or thereabouts. Not point and clicks, I know, but same vibe.
Right on. It's like Betrayal at Krondor for me! I'm so glad I'm not the only one getting these vibes my Brothers...
Indeed!
Also try Samurai Shoes 2020 album, same MS DOS vibes
As an Old School Runescape player this is deeply pleasing.
You've had it on continuous repeat the past 2 weeks, haven't you?

This would pair so well with a Sierra-style point-and-click adventure game.
I miss Sierra. Such a nostalgic time.
if you are over 25 and own a computer you must listen to this album
Had exactly the same thought, lol.

Never heard dungeon synth before… this is absolute heat
it goes so deep bro
Objectively correct with incontestability
Everybody else stfu

waltz of thieves go hard frfr
Wise dungeon tree
Yes! A vast dungeon beneath the the Trees.
My dog died two months ago. I listen to this almost daily now. Really comforts me when I miss her. Especially Waltz of Thieves, reminds of what was stolen from me... my puppy. My Beryl. Thanks for the comforting music.
Cave dweller goes insanely hard is not even a fucking joke
I feel like back in the 90s, playing an RPG on my brand new pentium pc.
This hits that 1990-96 dungeon crawler vibe

i personally love erang :) great sounds
I don't know how I arrived here, but I'm totally enjoying it!
Same bro
Cave Dweller really giving off those Warcraft 2 vibes
Don't forget to follow the composer Landon Myres, he has a LOT of projects coming up from all genres
Thank you for the composer name!
I'd also recommend Samuel Blues , Try Samurai shoes 2021 album
Came for the album cover, stayed for the King's Quest music.
Golden ax and Zelda vibes I'm here for it.
The song "Cave Dweller" is just like somebody mixed the Warcraft 2 and Finntroll intros. Great!
Love this cover as an old rpg book with scarf
This sounds like something straight out of a Camelot game. Like the Golden Sun soundtrack. Easily one of the best Dungeon Synth albums I've heard in a long while.
exactly my thought and feeling
Some of the flutes sound just like the ones used in Golden Sun
Ah, my no. 1 favourite JRPG
I love the faux choir vocals in the Golden Sun soundtrack. They really squeezed a lot out of that (32?) bit sound.
Oh snap, it is like Golden Sun! Nice
I'm immediately reminded of the track 'Stones' from the Ultima Online score.
Good God, I just saw my childhood. And I wept.
The nineties hit different.
And so did the music.
Well done T^T well done
We're storming Isengard tonight, boys!
Reminds me of Plantasia, if Mort Garson was playing high fantasy games while composing it
24:26 "oh shit, I should have bought that armor upgrade".
Trees that Call My Name is a great freaking song
It really is. That was the one that got me to share the album with my best friend.
Great album overall- really like this.
Cave Dweller 👍👍👍
I remember playing this back in 1985 on Amiga !!! At least... I want to remember it....
13:30 Light Amongst the Fog gave me Legend vibes! Gotta save the unicorn!
Damn, the RUclips algorithm chose to bless me with this recommend, today. 🙏
That first track just HAS to be from solstice on NES! Omg it sounds just like solstice
I fucking love dungeon synth
as a new age and Rush fan, im loving this!
The first few seconds gave me an immediate "oh damn" moment comparable to the first bite of a really good new food
This music is pleasing to listen to. I really get rs music vibes from this album.
Suddenly I need to play King's Quest
Nice! It's on sale on Steam now 😁
I don't remember when dungeon synth was recommended to me but I'm so glad it was. Getting more and more addicted by the day.
The Dungeon Synth Archives is an incredible channel.
Some of the sounds employed strongly remind me of good ole Amiga
Me and the boys, sipping mead, eating legs of turkey, and regailing in the success of another arduous quest.
From the very first track I said this reminded me of mid-1990s computer games.
Omg... This reminds me of the late 90s and early 2000s playing games like Stonekeep and that trivia game on Encarta Encyclopedia.
This album reeks of adventure and wanderlust. I love it! ⚔🏰🧙♂🔮

this one is somehow special :) i often get flashbacks to childhood days playing old dos games and stuff like that
Can we talk about how fucking epic this album starts? it hits you like a battle ram on a castle door!!
Legend of Zelda if it was on on PC back in the 80's
Music is so peaceful I love it.
It's like a combo of Runescape and Stardew Valley for me. And I fucking love it. Also, thank you for introducing me to dungeon synth as a genre!
OOH,yes!!
Taste in music level 99.
that transported me to a mystical forest
Zero idea what this genre is not really what I listen to but strangely I am drawn to it.
Can't wait to use this as part of the soundtrack for my Dolmenwood campaign (fairy-tale/folklore inspired role-playing game) when I run it
easily the best dungeon synth i've came across

The track starguide gave me fairy fountain vibes from Zelda magnificent
Of course trees are wise. All they do is stand in one place. They have the time and the setting for thinking. What else could they do? Start fires?
Got some Vangelis vibes as well as the classic 90s game
wise mystical tree
Going straight to my mushrooms playlist for tripping 👍
Track 3 is pure nostalgic heaven.
It’s like Flight of the Navigator, minus the constant UFO-fakeouts in the first act!
