    I have been using this lens for about 9 months with the Canon R5 and I LOVE it!! Heavy as hellllll but worth it! So nice to not have to constantly be thinking in the back of my mind that I need to switch lenses. Absolutely so fast too just like you said.

      I have the RF 50mm and 85mm, plus a gorgeous Tamron 35mm f/1.4. Those are magical lenses, but it bugs me to keep switching lenses when working with a model and trying different shots out. I'm super tempted to get the 28-70 f/2 to give me some flexibility to change focal lengths immediately without having to pause to swap lenses. I'm torn. It's not like it takes *that* long to switch lenses, but still, this one lens might be able to handle most of the shooting situations I find myself in.

    For portraits I use both the Canon 50 f1.2 and the 85 f1.2. I don’t have a problem swapping back and forth between the two and love the bokeh from each of these lenses. I primarily shoot environmental and location portraiture so using my feet to zoom is not usually a problem but If I was a studio portrait photographer I’m sure I would appreciate and prefer the 28-70 f2 zoom.

    I'm still in love with my 5D Mk IV and either my EF 85 f1.4 (used to have the f1.2 but didn't like it) or my EF 24-70 f2.8 (happy spot is in the 44-55mm range) for portraits. For portraits and headshots I rarely shoot below f4-ish and am usually up around f8-f11 for fashion shoots.

      I loved my ef 85 1.4! I never liked the ef 85 1.2 because it was so slow to focus and hard to get a sharp image at 1.2. but the rf 85 is tack sharp at 1.2. and both the 85 and 28-70 focus faster. I still love my ef glass but I don't used them much anymore.

      Hi, Is that 28-70 AF tracking (AF servo) as fast as 24-70? I shoot sport and want to upgrade to 28-70 but all it advantages will gone if it af slower than 24-70 in AF servo mode.

  • @FranciscoAlvarezTV
    @FranciscoAlvarezTV Год назад +1

    I went with the 24-70 because I value IS over the extra stops of aperture. The weight wasn’t even an issue because, at weddings, I use a BlackRapid double strap. Also, the extra 4mm on the wide end sometimes end up saving you in a pinch. Having said that: you do have a point.

    • @MrFrankenthaler
      @MrFrankenthaler Год назад

      Just to correct you on that - the IS + IBIS on the 24mm is only equal to the IBIS on 28mm. The stabilization offered by both lenses and a body with IBIS is roughly equal, with the 28mm having a wider aperture.

  • @whiterock1865

    I agree, I'd rather buy a bit high and only have to buy once! So I bought the 28-70, but rented 85mm f/1.2 for some college senior portrait sessions and all I can say is duzzam! It looks great and the 28-70 almost felt dark in comparison. But the flexibility of the 28-70 was amazing to get the tower in frame and such working around a lot of other peeps at the time.

      @@SalCincotta1 I like that we have the third-party companies that we can choose their lenses. Because I own a lot of sigma lenses. But I do wish Sony would come out with a 200 mm F2, maybe a 300 mm F2.8, 24-70 f2. I don’t mind big bulky lenses, if you’ve ever tried the Sigma 105 mm F1.4 that is definitely a choddy lens. But yeah Canon does have a nice selection of high-end lenses.

    As an owner of this lens it sucks as a portrait lens. It's not really a 28-70 it's more like a 28-65. It doesn't have that reach to be a good portrait lens unless you're shooting environmental portraits. Its an amazing lens and very sharp but it's kind of in this place where it's not good enough to out preform prims. 35 f1.4, 50 f1.2 and 85 f1.2 will give you much better images than the 28-70. The 28-70 gives you better versatility for event shooting but the trade off is worse low light performance.

    As a Nikon user we have a 24-120mm f4 lens that is extremely sharp at f4 (which is 1stop from 2.8 lenses in that mm range) Most Fashion n Portrait Photogs have found that if they move the model closer to the lens and further from the background that the out of focus is similar to the faster (more expensive, heavier, and shorter focal length lenses in the 70mm range) AND!!!! 70mm is too short for Portrait and Fashion :) :) :) Really enjoy Your Vids :) :) :)

      hmm... i cant speak to which focuses faster... my guess... and its a guess is that the 24-70 might focus a little faster since its a smaller lens. BUT that being said - ive never had issues with the 28-70 focusing speed. for me the speed of the aperture is more important with the 28-70 being f2. its a gorgeous lens!! hth

I never got it because I don't think I'll ever use it together with the 28-70mm. It seems like a great 1 lens walk around lens. I would love to hear the comparison of the 2 lenses, 50 vs 28-70mm. @@SalCincotta1 before getting the 28-70mm, I used to use sigma ef 28mm 1.4 and 40mm 1.4 for the morning getting ready prep. Both are amazing and extremely sharp lenses. Then i would change it to 40mm and 85mm. I always felt 40mm was a better fit than the 50mm in most hotel rooms. Sometimes in a small hotel, I will use rf 15-35mm. I thought maybe it might work well with the rf 50mm 1.2. Although using f2 instead of f1.4 doesn't bother me at all, I prefer avoiding f2.8 unless it's 70-200mm. Thanks for replying back, Sal.

I've had it for about 6 months now and can't get comfortable with it at all. I'm giving it a few more months and a few more weddings to see if my feeling gets better otherwise I'll trade it for a RF f/2.8.
