  • Logitech M720 Triathlon Mouse Comprehensive Review
    If you've followed me for a while you know I have a love of Logitech stuff. So I picked up the latest Logitech M720 Triathlon mouse. What is it? Well, it appears to be another top tier mouse in their catalog, it's sits as a cheaper alternative to the MX series, but retains some of the excellent features of that series. In this video I take a look at the M720 and compare it to the more expensive MX Master and the smaller MX Anywhere 2. I show how the device switching works and lastly I test it on a glass surface.

    What a bloody brilliant review, thank you. I’m still using my 2012 iMac but I’m considering upgrading within a year or so to a Mac Mini so I’ve been looking up keyboards and a mice for it. I’ve decided on the Logitech K390 keyboard but I wasn’t sure about a mouse. Thanks to your review I’m getting the M720. It looks like the scrolling is very smooth on the Mac. My Apple Mouse died a couple of months ago and I replaced it with a cheap compact Logitech mouse but unfortunately the scrolling isn’t smooth at all, it’s very jagged like.

    Thanks for this video review! It’s definitely the best one I’ve found about the M720. I have a 3 year old MX Master that’s starting to feel sticky even after trying to clean it thoroughly and this seems like a better and cheaper alternative! I was at first going to ask about the material of this mouse but you answered it at the end! Again, great review video!

      is it possible to avoid mouse getting sticky

    • @AndrewMCollette
      @AndrewMCollette Год назад +1

      @@JaneParkerBowls - Best bet is to be sure your hands are clean before using. Oils (even natural from skin) can affect the rubbery surface over time. Especially substances like paint thinner, nail polish remover, even rubbing alcohol will cause damage to the surface faster.
      I would appreciate if a more durable material was available, I seriously love this mouse, I prefer it to the MX Master 3 due to the tilt wheel feature, and the more accessible device toggle.
      Finally opening it up to clean out lint after about 4 years of heavy daily use, including some light gaming.
      Still working great, buying a second one as this one is starting to peel rubber in spots around the edges, and it is annoying to feel it.
      Maybe after I receive the new one I can figure out a way to resurface the old one to extend the life...

    I have had a m720 mouse at work for months now and I just bought one for home use. Your review finally explained features where logitech documentation left me hanging - the middle non-scroll wheel button is a scroll lock, and there is no gesture button (despite documentation for this mouse referring to one). Love this mouse, thanks for helping me solve the puzzle!

    Wow, thanks for spend a long time to review this mouse! A lot RUclipsrs will not review this kind of lower class mouse this long or in depth! I was looking for a review of this mouse like yours for few weeks and finally found yours! However I won't call your review in depth but it's close, because I would like to see the sensor accuracy for designs and gaming. I was deciding between M720, G900, G602, as a video editor g602 doesn't have the tilt scroll wheel is not good plus it's super old mouse so it cut from the list. G900 is really a dream mouse for me, but I wish they make it with Bluetooth build in so I can use it without the receiver when I just doing non gaming work. But it still hard to decide between those 2, but the price tag of G900 n my finance situation, I think I will save for the m720 for now since it has Bluetooth which is way more future than the USB receiver on the G900 as USB C only PCs will be take over and with Bluetooth I can use it on non PC devices too!

    • @NetvoTV
      @NetvoTV 7 лет назад

      ***** thanks, how about gaming? The peeling off you means is a serious issue? You mean the colour will change over time or the material will tear off until the mouse can't be use anymore? It can be said a successor to the m705 marathon mouse, but marathon come with 3 years warranty n looks like it had better material, m720 has only 1 year warranty, do you think m720 is able to last that long(3years)? Does it's parts easily broke or out functioning? So you not recommend me to get this mouse(to be honest)? If I plan to only get a mouse for everything for the next 4 years at least, this isn't there right choice right?
      Sadly, Logitech didn't update their nose yearly or remakes a model to improve the quality, I wish G900 can update will Bluetooth so it can be ultimate gaming n working mouse, but I'm not sure when the day will come.

      Thanks for the kind words. I'm not a hardcore gamer, but from the games I do play, the mouse seems fine. I did have to Forget and Re-Pair the mouse once though; for some reason it got choppy and a re-pair fixed it. I think this mouse is a good choice if you don't want to spend the extra money for the MX Master. The MX Master is an excellent mouse though, so you can't go wrong with that either, but like you said, it's a very expensive mouse.

      I have some older Microsoft mice that had the rubber material decay and become tacky... Not fun.. But that took a little while to happen. What I did to fix it was use some rubbing alcohol to dissolve the rubber. After some work, it left the hard plastic behind.

    Thank you. I have the MX Master but it's it's way too big and sits in the drawer. I've always had that shape of mouse but I feel like I'm having to force my hand too far forward to fit the contours and even so, I'm still having to stretch for the scroll wheel. It's shockingly bad for me. But the few times I did try to get used to it I did like being able to switch between my two PC's easily. I've now settled on an M705 (marathon mouse) which is just perfect in my hands. I couldn't live without the fast free-wheeling scroll wheel now. But I'd always coveted the bluetooth and easy switching. I'd discounted this M720 after my MX Master experience because doesn't look exactly the same shape as the M705 in pictures, but after watching your video I think it looks close enough. I'll probably pick one up to give it a try sometime. Cheers to you.

    Just curious though. I just watched you pair it via Bluetooth to 3 separate devices.

    How does one switch to the fourth device?

    • @franklekwan5860
      @franklekwan5860 3 года назад +2

      No, you cannot connect to a fourth device. In fact, for each of the 3 selections, you can pair the mouse either via Bluetooth or with a Logitech Unify dongle. That means you can pair the mouse to maximum 3 Unify dongles (but the mouse comes with just one). If you pair your mouse to 3 Bluetooth devices, the Unify dongle became "un-used" and you can use it for other Logitech mice or keyboards that support Unify (but you have to perform the pairing).

    Considering the M720. I have the Master (like in this video). One thing about it I really hate is the build in battery. Seems to go empty a lot faster than my previous M705 which also used regular AA batteries. If only it used regular AA... I wonder why they at least don't put in a battery with decent capacity. The energy in the build in Master battery is tiny compared to a regular AA - no wonder it goes empty fast. Then the hasle of having the wire while it charges. The M720 - just change battery and put the used in the charger and you're good to go again in seconds.

After returning for a different M720, and a call to support, no luck. I tried numerous troubleshooting steps but still no luck. As my frustration hightened I then decided to plug my mouse into a rear USB port and bingo! I have a Dell XPS 8930 and from day one the front USB ports had a mind of their own. Ultimately, the mouse is one of the best Logitech mouse I've ever used. Highly recommended. Ps, I'm not a gamer.

    I fount the MX Master to be too large and the MX Anywhere 2S to be too small. Office Max has these on display, so you can try the size out. After buying all three and returning the ones I didn't like based mostly on size, I can report the positives of the Marathon 720: The gesture button on the side is easier to press than the button on the MX Master 2S, the Marathon 720 has a middle click button which is lost on the MX anywhere 2S. All these mice are now between $40-$60. If size wasn't an issue I would prefer the MX Anywhere 2S because of the better laser, and the Marathon would be my #2 choice. But the MX Anywhere is just too small. The Marathon really feels normal sized for working all day.

    • @quixoticduck
      @quixoticduck 5 лет назад

      This was useful thanks. I borrowed my brother's MX Master 2S and I was ok with the big size (even though I have little hands) but I hated the bit jutting out on the left as I kept hitting it against my keyboard. I thought the Anywhere 2S would be perfect, and got it half price on sale, but it's hurting my hand and giving me RSI.
      It makes me sad to have to return/sell my Anywhere as it's so well made and beautiful, and also because I got it for cheaper than the 720 is currently selling but it seems like the 720 is the perfect compromise? Such a shame they don't make a 'normal' sized/shaped version. Btw, isn't the Marathon a previous model and this is actually the Triathlon? :)

    • @quixoticduck
      @quixoticduck 5 лет назад

      Ps. I'm confused about what you've said about the middle button. Don't they all have a customization middle click button above the wheel? Sorry if I missed it in his review.
      On my older mouse I middle-clicked with the wheel, but that's difficult with the MX. Are you saying the wheel is easier to use as a middle click? I actually think using the central button as a middle click on the Anywhere is what is causing a large part of my RSI.
      Is the Triathlon wheel nice to scroll with as well? And can you tell the difference re the laser? Thanks!

    I have the MX Anywhere 2 and it's so well made and pretty and I got it half price, but its size is hurting my hand, even though I have tiny hands. Especially as I use the central button as middle click, it's giving me the beginnings of RSI when I do so. :( I didn't find the wheel itself easy to use as a middle click, something I use a lot. I loved the software.
    The MX Master is nice except for the bit which sticks out on the left. I kept hitting it against stuff like my keyboard. It's also a bit big.
    The Triathlon seems like a good compromise, It seems like the wheel and laser are still ok?. It's just a shame they don't make a more 'normal' version of the MX. :( Anything else to recommend or is this Triathlon my best bet? Thanks! :)

      Not many mice these days seem to care about middle clicking anymore. It's tough, especially if you are used to having a middle button for 3D work. There is only one mouse that has a middle button now, and that's the 3DConnexion's CADMouse (amzn.to/2O2QAm0). It's a good mouse, I'm working a review of it. It's a good mouse, especially for CAD work. Other than that, if your hands are small, maybe look into the MX Anywhere 2, which is a good mouse, and is made for portability. The only other suggestion I can make is reprogramming one of the other buttons to act as a middle button (i've done that before, and it takes a little mental reprogramming to get used to). If wrist issues become worse, I would recommend switching to a trackball mouse, like the MX Ergo (amzn.to/2TGaFVd), I'm also trying to work on a review of that mouse too... I use the MX Ergo daily now, and use the CadMouse when I'm doing 3D work in 3DSMax.

      @@dowerchin Thank you. The MX Anywhere 2 is actually the mouse that I already have! :) I don't mind if there is no dedicated middle click button, I just like wheels which are easy to use as a middle click without them rolling sometimes instead. My cheap old wired black Logitech scrollwheel was fine until it stopped scrolling properly (I think it wore down internally on one half of the wheel). I could just buy that again but I like the newer quality and software and wirelessness of the newer models. I think the issue with the MX Anywhere 2 is both the tiny size and also that I gave up using the wheel to middle click and mapped the button above it to middle click instead, which is an awkward movement for my hand to make so often.
      Thanks for the link about the MX Ergo, I'll look into that. I hope you finish you review soon! Although obviously I don't want my light twinges to turn into actual RSI again so perhaps I shouldn't wait for that! :)
      Ps. I don't actually use specific software where I need middle click, I've only tried out 3d modelling for an hour or two ever just out of curiousity, it's just that I use the middle click button often to open links in new tabs and to shut tabs etc.

    Had to return 2 of there that came with really crappy scroll behaviour. Sometimes it scrolls in the oposite direction of the intended and was very hard to do small amounts of scrolling. Then I quit and bought a MX Anywhere 2 which isn't perfect too but worked better.

    This mouse will not pair with my old iPad that maxes out with iOS 9.3.5. The tablet ID's the brand and model mouse but will not pair. The circle keeps going around and the No.2 light on the mouse keeps blinking. I tried No. 3 with same failure. Apparently Logitech means it when they say iOS 10.10. Pity they don't support the slightly older iOS. Thing is you don't learn these details when you're an hour away from home in a Best Buy store and don't remember your iOS version or know you can't upgrade. Be sure, according to the pkg, you're running iOS 10.10 or later.
