Glad I'm not the only one that struggles casting an overhead!
Turn the ratchet off. And a 180 spin cast works dor me. But as your spinning you let line out before you fully release ur thumb.
This was a few years ago, we have figured it out now 😁
When casting over heads take the ratchet off becasue it creates tension thumb on the spool cast like a bait caster
Remove the ratchet and with a 4oz sinker and set the free spool settings to slow the sinker to drop if it drops to fast you will get an over run so adjust it so it drops slow Untill you get used to the over head About the balloon ad water to it so I will help with the cast and sit better in the water As you know if you want wind help blow it up big and if you don't just make it a small one ☺️
Do you have any tips on when to strike when using live baits?Do I strike when my rod is bending or it is already screaming drag?I use J hooks on live yakka
It's always best to wait and make sure the fish has fully taken the live bait, and with a J-hook, you have to strike it. Then you lock the drag 😁
I tried casting a live yakka on a spinning reel at avoca and casted about ony 7m. I had to wait 3 hours for a salmon to eat my live yakka, since my line wasnt out far.😂 Im stil happy with a salmon though
You never know what you hook up to with a live yakka, and sometimes it doesn't need to go out too far.
when fishing off the rocks with an over head use a slightly longer rod and turn off the ratchit

what do you use for burley?
Dried stale bread and burley mix that you get from any tackle store. That's enough to wet the fish's appetite.
Can u catch yakkas anytime throughout the day ?
In summer yes, but can be harder in winter. The key is to burley.

Take of ratchet and free spool...lob it
very easy brother thumb the spool and cast as normal like a spinning reel but turn the rod and reel on the side cast as normal and feather the spool and watch the line until your bait hits the water and stop it with your thumb
Thanks Mazen, we'll give it a go next time and film it. It kills us when get birds nest, takes too long to fix, so some of the buys have given up on casting with overheads.
