    What sucks is that women/girls with bigger boobs aren't exactly able to 'get away with' going braless. As a bigger-chested woman myself, it becomes super obvious you aren't wearing one. And then anyone and everyone feels the need to comment on it or blatantly stare. Women with average to small chests are able to skirt under the radar, which I'm a bit jealous of; bras are so much more uncomfortable for women with bigger chests, yet we get flack if we don't wear one. It's a huge inconvenience and really unfair. I just wanna be comfy, dammit ;-;

There are certain behaviors in our society right now that us women commonly refer to as “objectification”, you can talk to your female friends or acquaintances to find out more about those actions. I think asian cultures in general are still behind in things/concepts that western countries take for granted. Speaking as a southeast asian, girls in our family were always asked to wear bras even at home if we have male guests (doesn’t matter if they’re extended family either or if they’re just casually dropping by. As long as there’s an uncle or a male cousin at the house, girls should be wearing bras under their t-shirts or pajamas). It is quite honestly tiring. And don’t even get me started on going bra-less outside the house. I once forgot to wear a bra when I went to eat at our dorm’s cafeteria (because it was just downstairs from my dorm room so I thought it would be okay) and got shamed so much for it.

    In my new job there is a uniform where if I wear no bra you can literally see my whole nipple so I can’t go bra less, so instead I use nipple covers. I love bras they can be so beautiful but I just find them generally uncomfortable and I like the aesthetic of my nipples tbh haha

At first it felt awkward but two weeks later that was the last thing on my mind. I started to wonder why do we let other people dictate how we dress up? This is just one video, it doesn’t mean Korea has changed. Some Koreans are more open minded than others but it is rare especially coming from a mostly conservative country. Korea (if you haven’t noticed) is culturally behind more than America and the female beauty standards are still just as harsh, versus America which is more accepting and open minded. I feel like women in Korea face a lot of mysoginistic ideologies pushed on to them by their mothers fathers etc. It will probably be a while before we ever see a change when women aren’t oppressed.

    Not that they really implied it but it's important to clarify that most of these examples aren't representative of American fashion as a whole. Braless is still controversial and shamed in MANY parts of the USA. A large part of the country is conservative, similarly to South Korea. Also, these examples are celebrities, specifically ones who push boundaries (Madonna, Rihanna, etc) and even they make up a small minority of how American celebrities dress. Braless fashion in the USA is more just simple pants, a shirt and no bra. Similar to the photo of the rock star and Rachel from 'Friends'.
    But this was a good video. It was fun and interesting to watch and hear what the Korean women have to say about the fashion differences between the US and SK.

She pointed this out before, she said that women back then did not wear bras underneath their traditional clothes. It was only until YT travelers came to Korea and saw this. Those YT travels did not like it. Then she transitioned to the indigenous culture where we never wore bras until YT travelers (colonizers) felt uncomfortable and thought it was inappropriate. In my Native American culture, we never wore bras due to breastfeeding our babies. It was the most sacred thing between a mother and her baby. Like I said in my culture, we value women as sacred beings. Watching this made me feel sad about these reactors. Hopefully, they can experience where they feel free and confident more to express themselves.

I'm not sure if it started out as a fashion statement, but I know people who have women in their family who have suffered from breast cancer. Sometimes, they have to remove the nipples to stop the spread of cancer cells. I was also shocked to hear that things like bras with nipples and pasties with nipples existed, but my friend explained to me how these items can help women feel more comfortable in their own bodies after something scary and traumatic as breast cancer.
