Cream were a British rock band formed in London in 1966. The group consisted of bassist Jack Bruce, guitarist Eric Clapton, and drummer Ginger Baker. Bruce was the primary songwriter and vocalist. Clapton did the vocals on this MONSTER. Wheels of Fire was the world's first platinum-selling double album. Baker, Bruce, and Clapton named their band "Cream" because they thought themselves as the "cream of the crop" of their respective instruments.

Great reaction!! I suggest you look more into his live performances, specially back in the 60s-70s when he used to slay the guitar. Here are some songs:
Bluesbreakers - Have you ever loved a woman, Stormy Monday, Stepping out, Hideaway
Cream ALL LIVE - NSU, Im so Glad, Sweet Wine, Stepping out, Spoonful, Crossroads, White Room, Sitting on the top of the world
Derek and the Dominos - Why does love got to be so sad LIVE, Let it Rain LIVE and Anyday
Blind Faith - Can’t find my way home and Presence of the Lord live at hyde park

The song is about making a deal with the devil in exchange for enhanced musical abilities!! I don't know what got into Robert Johnson but everyone say he was transformed after his crossroads experience. When Ed Begley interviewed Bob Dylan Bob strongly implied he had a crossroads experience himself!! Be careful of The Crossroads but it really is amazing! Three guys were putting out amazing music for a year or so!!

My all-time favorite is Stevie Ray Vaughan. No one plays Blues or Blues/Rock like he did.
But you have got to remember the greats that also played so amazingly well. Clapton, David Gilmour, Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Gary Moore,...... I could go on and on. Stevie Ray Vaughan is my own favorite, but there are so may more out there to enjoy. They each bring something unique and all their own.

Every decade of rock has 1 or 2 bands that not only change the course of music history but have a sound and style so unique it is endlessly mimicked. Cream was one of these bands in the 60's. And the Clapton solos on this performance was the absolute zenith of his skills and abilities.

For precision, for love of the blues music, SRV! It is the one I think in first, I don’t like to make a comparaison. An apple can’t be compare to an orange. Jimi Hendrix was a star in the sky, Jimi Page too, Santana, don’t forget Bruce Cockburn. What can we say about Duane Almand, and Al di Meola. So…
But for me? The pleasure SRV give to me and to my soul, for that point, nothing can be compared about this alpha guitarist produce to me. But, I was to forget my best Américain song writer, The Artist and the Man, JJ Cale, a Soul Man with a great way as artistic musician. Nothing can’t satisfy my ears and my heart more than this Man, with her woman that having past his life with him, Christine Lakeland. Those two one have impressed me by the singularity to make with their life an impresif expression to love too living and create together. Daniel, excusez mon anglais, Î

There are many guitarists whose work I love, but for me the alltime stand out performer was the Irishman Rory Gallagher. There is an apocryphal story that when Hendrix was asked what it felt like to be the best guitarist in the world, he replied “don’t know man, ask Rory Gallagher”!

Blues, Rock, Jazz, Metal and others, But I can say the most technically precise I've ever witnessed is a fusion of all the styles live was Al Di Meola... with Poco de Lucia. at the Hollywood Bowl. Al's incredible album 'Elegant Gypsy" was voted Greatest Electric Guitar Album after it came out. The album also has my favorite acoustic guitar song.... "Mediterranean Sundance"

That’s a lot of talent you consumed there, JM! Someone once asked Clapton how it feels to be the greatest guitarist of all? His reply: I don’t know, you need to ask Prince. Here’s another opportunity to awash yourself in talent with this tribute to George Harrison and hear Prince shred his guitar. (I’m particularly proud of that segue lol.) It’s a great cover too.

Cream was a psychedelic mix of rock, blues and jazz! Eric Clapton (guitar) wanted to go more blues while Jack Bruce (bass) and Ginger Baker (drums) wanted to go more jazz. Cream is considered to be the world's first so called super group and didn't last long due to internal conflicts mostly between Jack and Ginger. These conflicts did however very much contribute to the band's sound! This song Crossroads is a classic blues standard by the legendary Robert Johnson.

Youre a good guy and that was a top suggestion! Eric was the man Jimi Hendrix crossed an ocean to go see. These British guys were channelling the Delta Blues, they were blues purists before they were anything else. What a question you pose though. I think to be perfectly honest Neil Young playing at 1 mph does it with more heart than Steve Vai at 200mph, though its obvious Steve is the 'better' player. But some peoples' hearts might be moved by flamenco and others by speed metal... I could only suggest my own favourite axemen at the end of the day: Jan Hammer of the Dutch 70s band Focus (see his playing on 'Hocus Pocus'), of course Frank Zappa, and (if you want a guitarist to make the hairs on the back of your neck to stand up) the great Leslie West of Canadian group Mountain, see any live version of Theme For An Imaginary Western from the early 70s. Youre welcome.

That question has been asked millions of times. It is purely an objective issue based on personal likes. Anyone of the following names are contenders and there are many others. The "Blues" guitarist are some of the best not mentioned here. As for a ROCK guitarist....If you see these names on a song you can be sure there will be some very good guitar work.....Most say the best is a hard answer but maybe Jimi takes the #1 spot in most people's minds. Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, Carlos Santana, Jeff Beck, Alex Lifeson, Neil Schon, Joe Perry, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Martin Barre, Toy Caldwell, Robby Krieger, Terry Kath, Slash, Billy Gibbons, Brian May, Peter Green, Steve Howe, Trevor Rabin,Tony Iommi, Dwayne Allman, Dicky Betts, Joe Walsh, Don Felder, John Fogerty, Stephen Stills, Jerry Garcia, Mark Knopfler, Mick Taylor, Randy Rhoads, Ted Nugent, George Harrison, Pete Townshend, Keith Richards..........
