I remember watching this movie as a child and the music from the beginning stuck out to me the most, just recently I started humming it and I started thinking about that movie again, this movie gives me nostalgia
I don’t think I need to explain the impact this movie had on me but there was too much synchronicities in my life for me to not end up watching this movie every morning before I went to middle school for at least a year. This movie is something special. And I always scream out “The laaaast Unicoooooorn” as if I’m singing along to the opening again. Sometimes people get the reference, but even when they don’t, I sure get a warm chuckle out of it. What a good movie. The animation is premium.
Im 16, and i have watched the film everyday of my life since i was 5ish. I always loved them film. Always have, always will. Even tho i used to have nightmares of mommy fortuna, the harpy and the skeleton. I still always have loved it. The story is brillient.. worth the watch for sure

Beautiful classic. Loved it since early childhood, & it has aged very well (as have I lol ). Beautiful songs by America (the band), great voice work, including esp. from Christopher Lee as King Haggard & Angela Landsbury as the witch Fortuna. Just great.
A very pensive and melancholic fairytale of bittersweet Irony and laconic humour.The movie does not give easy solutions to unhappy endings and made me reflect and end.Sad that the love story had such a unhappy ending.
The original creator of this story actually wrote a continuation, or a true ending in one of his books called Two Hearts. It's still as sad as the movie though. *Spoilers ahead:* The story talks about a little girl who lives in a village that's being attacked by a griffin, so she goes on a journey to seek help from her king. On her way, she meets Schmendrick and Molly. Once they arrive at the castle, they find Lir, old and frail. He offers helps, as he remembers all the years of searching for Amalthea, and he wants to see her again. They set off for the village, where they are met with the griffin. They fight, along with the little girls dog, however the dog is killed in battle. Lir manages to pierce the griffins heart, but a griffin has two hearts, so he only damaged it yet not killed it. In return, the griffin heavily injures Lir. The beast goes after the little girl next, about to kill her, so Schmendrick calls upon the unicorn Amalthea for help. She arrives and stabs the griffin in his second heart, killing it, but Lir passes away, not getting the chance to be reunited with his unicorn. After the battle, Amalthea stands over Lirs body for a long time, then sees the girl petting her dog and brings it back to life before vanishing. The crew picks up Lir to bury him, Schmendrick comments on how she brought back the dog instead of Lir. Molly says it's a sign of true love, as she let him go. Before they all part ways, Molly teaches the little girl a song, one that she can whistle after she turns 17, in case she ever needs help, to call upon a very special friend. The little girl hopes the song will bring Schmendrick and Molly back rather than the unicorn. The end. A really sad story, not quite sure if it's any better than in the movie, but at least Lir _saw_ the love of his life once more before his death even if he didn't get to say goodbye.
@@kiransampat4338 Well, I can agree it's a sad story _but_ I can see it as a somewhat happy ending. Amalthea was never meant to be human, she's an immortal unicorn, it's in her nature to be free. But she got to learn how to love and regret, and Lir experienced the love of a unicorn, something no other unicorn and no other man have experienced before. They both underwent something very special in their lives, even though they don't speak to each other again after she becomes a unicorn again, it's very bittersweet.. They say, never be sad something is gone, be happy it was there. And I think that's the point of this story's ending. :)
Oh man i was 4 years old 34 years ago when my parents taped this movie for me on a blank tape from rental store videos of this, Dark Crystal and Phantom tollbooth and became favorites of mine and own it on Lionsgate's blu-ray. Oh man, Lady Amalthea i had a crush on when i was a kid and a teenager! she was a looker and on par with fantasy beauties like Taarna from Heavy Metal, Teegra from Fire and Ice, Leia from Star Wars, Red Sonja and more.
Just because something is animated does not mean it's meant for children lol. When cartoons were invented, they actually started off being marketed to adults.

I didn't know at first The Last Unicorn was from 1982 since it dosn't look like movie from 1982, reminds me of the My Little Pony G1 TV show, the unicorn's design is beautifully great and animeesque even to be form 1982, and I wondering how it would look in Disney adaptation.

I was born in 1980, this came out when I was only 2. This was my FAVORITE movie 🎬 until I was 7 or so. Such nostalgia
