Kid Trunks is a spoiled brat who's used to getting most things he wants because the Briefs family owns everything ever forever and always. You can honestly see how his upbringing has affected him by comparing Kid Trunks to Future Trunks. Future Trunks is kind, humble, hardworking and compassionate. He's a good guy because he's lived in a world that's complete shit and has had to be grateful for the few good things he has been allowed to enjoy.
Future Trunks was also heavily influenced by Future Gohan as well hence why he is polite. Present Trunks on the other hand has both of his parents and both of them can be pretty arrogant and had a "spoiled" upbringing too.
I would say that he's more Trunks than he is Goten. But Goten's influence amplifies the Trunks part; Similar to their dynamic when they aren't in fusion, Goten will often do or say something to Trunks that'll stroke his ego...
