      Quick question, how did Latins in outremer generally view mamlukes. Was there every any pitty for them considering most were once Christian or did they see them similar to how Saracens saw Templars?

      he was already controling the region of lisbon since 1140, when the first attempt to conquer the city failed, the arabs payed him a tribute since 1142 not to raid the region, he was very active and the arabs had lost its control since that time. it was a matter of time (when more "crusaders" passed ) till lisbon fell into Afonso hands.

    Dom Afonso Henriques, warrior king and father of the Portuguese nation, is laid to rest in a fairly modest tomb, along side his son, Dom Sancho I, in the Igreja da Santa Cruz, Coimbra.
    The tombs are hidden behind the altar and when I went to pay my respects in the empty church, I was surprised to find them covered in cobwebs and dust, forgotten by the nation they founded.
    But Portugal is the land were secrets go to vanish, so it's only fitting that the warrior king and father of the nation, rests in peace, where no one will disturb him. Free to fade away under the layers of time.

      M Ra They’ve been in Portugal since 1128. Educated our first king, Alfonso I and with him participated in the “Reconquista”.
      In return, they were given 1/3 of the Portuguese total territory and the city of Tomar became their headquarters.
      When they returned to Portugal after being prosecuted in France in the 14th century, they financed the Portuguese “Age of Discovery” with not only money but knowledge (ship building techniques, Star-oriented navigation they had learned from the Muslims, etc)
      They made all the difference

      Sergio Silva De facto. A minha ideia não era que o território era em troca da educação. E quando refiro educação, refiro que terão tido influência na sua educação “bélica”, até porque se diz que D. AH os considerava como irmãos (de armas, certamente)
      E o território foi de fato dado na condição de o defenderem, para proveito do próprio ...
      Outro tema: É interessante que não se refira a influência dos Templários na tomada de Lisboa especificamente. Apenas de Cruzados Ingleses, Normandos, Alemães (de Colónia) e Países Baixos. O Sérgio tem alguma informação sobre isto?

    • @Mrsergiosaturn
      @Mrsergiosaturn 4 года назад +1

      @@BrunoDeMarques Compreendo. Peço desculpa pelo meu lapso mas ao ler o seu comentario fiquei com essa impressão.
      No entanto continuo a manter a minha posição. A educação bélica de que estávamos a falar foi da responsabilidade de Egas Moniz e em todas as fontes que li até hoje nunca foi mencionada nenhuma participação templaria na educação de Afonso Henriques.
      Relativamente aos companheiros de armas de Afonso Henriques o único templario que foi um dos companheiros mais próximos de Afonso Henriques foi Gualdim Paes (que mais tarde viria a ser Grão Mestre da ordem, fundador da cidade de Tomar e que também foi responsável pela construção de muitos castelos na fronteira do rio Tejo).
      Relativamente a participação concreta da ordem na conquista de Lisboa tem toda razão quando diz que a participação templaria nunca foi muito mencionada. A única informação que tenho foi que Gualdim Paes participou no cerco de Lisboa mas não sei mais nada sobre o restante contingente templario. Penso que é uma tema interessante que você trouxe para a conversa e no futuro irei investigar mais sobre isso.

    • @BrunoDeMarques
      @BrunoDeMarques 4 года назад +2

      Sergio Silva Sergio Silva muito obrigado. Tenho ideia que Gualdim de Pais foi uma figura próxima de AH na sua infância e depois um dos seus “Paladinos” na reconquista. É que de facto os Templários, à partida, teriam de estar envolvidos na tomada de Lisboa mas nada se sabe

    Interesting that a war into Muslm Iberian territory was waged simultaneously during the Second Crusade and in conjunction with it as well. Really reminds you how far reaching the Crusades are.

    Only one thing..
    Afonso ruled with the Portugal's Templairs.
    In a way that they really understood each other.. because even.. there were the same.. Portugal's Kings were all iniciated in the Order..
    Afonso had the Byzantine Roots of hes father..
    The Templairs were created in Jerusalem..
    But only after they fought together in Ourique..
    And created Portugal
    Bernardo de Claraval helped introduce the Order in the Catholic Church... only after
    What I'm trying to say..
    Is that the Portugal's King's
    Where iniciated in the Order..
    So all the contact with the Catholic Church
    Was really more burocratic then the Real Thing
    More than 10.000 men.. dont go to sail far away to just then decide for the battle..

    Thank you, a fantastic description of that time environment! You are in a good track, maybe one day someone will understand the true importance of the city of Braga, capital of Minho province, where Portugal bornt, where for the first time the Templars arrived in Portugal, how they were offered huge fortunes, in lands, money, houses, titles, farms and priviledges, after all, Braga has 2.000 years old, it was the capital of the ancient Celts Bracarae, capital of the Roman Gallaecea province and capital of the Germanics Swabians, also where Sir Gualdim de Payns had his home, where theres still exists a non explored tunnel between his house, the millennial Braga cathedral and the Populum, but the Treasure of the Braga Sé, it is the most hidden secret of Portugal! The three knights Templar from Burgundy who came to Minho and build Portugal, strangely their families are the original Templars blood!

    Is king baldwin IV had a wife?
    Is it true BALIAN of ibelen is the son of Godfrey? (Source of Kingdom of heaven)
    Why Reynald de chatillon wants a war between Muslim and Christian

    • @AlexM.317
      @AlexM.317 4 года назад +2

      Crismark Flores No ,baldwin the 4th was a leper ,so he most definitely would NOT be given a wife. Kingdom of Heaven movie is not historically accurate .Take anything you see in that movie with a pinch of salt.

      This was indeed one of the important part in the alliance's history and birth. But of course just this wouldn't be nearly enough.

    Are the Moors the reason morocoo is named morocoo?

    • @carterbentonjr399
      @carterbentonjr399 4 года назад +2

      Kind of it began in the days of the Roman Empire when parts of Morocco was conquered by Rome and the conquered province was called Mauritania which in time became Morocco during the Moslem conquest.
