JT, you work so hard all the time I feel like I am getting something done while sitting in my recliner watching your videos. Always entertaining and educational.
Nice job on that old truck. In stead of spending time on racks that you have to load and unload by hand, consider getting some used IBC’s, pull the plastic tank out, and now you have some baskets you can quickly get off the truck with your fork lift.
If the truck is salvageable enough to be road worthy fix the breaks properly and make a service/will it run and get home truck. That would be a mean looking farmer edition service rig.
You are a mechanical mad man! Can not believe you made that work. Amazing. Good job my friend. Can not wait till next one. Thanks for letting me ride along.
JT, Fluffy sure did enjoyed sniffing around the Cab of ur Truck.. Congrats JT on finally getting some type of Brakes for ur truck. The BEAST LIVES for another Day.. Now to make some wood slats for the bed racks.. One Dandy fine green wood truck..
What a great job dude I would have never thought outside of the box like that that is awesome not everything brilliant comes with shiny Parts in fireworks but that is extremely smart and good job
Now if the rear brakes don’t stop it fast enough you can plug the rear brakes and t into the front brakes and they will work. I would have never thought about changing out the cable operated emergency brake into a functioning service brake but that’s another reason we need to be neighbors because I like figuring out things like you do.
Hey J T, I guess for off road that is going to work 😮. I just hope you don't have something bad happen, so ..... Good luck on your wood cutting. Maybe Fluffy will get the mice caught 😂. Thanks for Sharing. 😊
I had that C40 in NYC . Used for tool welder truck . Simple rugged . 327 motor geared low low 60mph max. Wish I had another one. Brakes are easy simple in these . Rebuild master cylinder and booster kits available.
That’s pretty common on larger farm tractors like 1800 and 1805. Good idea and it will work fine for what you’re doing with the truck. Thanks for the Videos.
That' works every time did it many times but cheap way also to do it is just order you a booster n master cylinder for mid 70s gm 1 ton truck drill the extra 2 holes that are needed for it n bolt it on the firewall in place of your master cylinder n then run your lines n put a t in your back brake line for your drive line brake that you have now n be road worthy I've did this several times just thought I'd pass it on to you love your videos
JT when I was a teenager my brother and I got my dad’s old 1953 ford stock truck running and used it for hauling hay bales out of the fields. No brakes just the drive shaft emergency brake it worked. We also mounted a snowmobile fuel tank on top the hood , it was a site.
hey great Idea my 48 Studebaker 1 1/2 ton has not brakes but a great idea to get it to roll around here , Ya great idea. Keep them coming, Your still buying the beers for the beans.
Well JT, I'm a brake guy. Every project I get the chassis and brakes first. I'll admit there was moments I had to look away!😮 That said when I was doing maintenance work at the local ski hill out Tucker snow cats only had driveshaft brakes. Worked very well. Considering the intended use I'll have to give you the old "job well done"!😊 There are still some questions I have about testing the brakes with the big door down!😮
Geez, first try and it worked..and well. More time for the mountains. That fix (?) will work fine in the wood lot, and there is always a tree in a pinch, getting home and in the yard just needs a lot of heads up driving and planning for the worst. Keep Fluffy on the payroll, it's the season for mice to be looking for a winter chalet, and a grain buffet.
I was checking auction prices on 30-40 ft trailers and realized you probably have the same grain capacity in your 3 trucks at 1/3 of the cost. Well done.
you reinvented the Model T :) i like the way you think and problem solve. Yes you should have more brakes than that, but i understand what you are doing. you probably discovered why it's in the junkyard. professional brake service would be a nice down payment on a truck even in 1990. being lots of these mid size trucks were at 30% logical and legal braking capacity when new, I wonder if you could convert to air brakes more economically if you do finish the brake system... thanks for sharing.❤
Excellent Video JT :) I have a suggestion on flatbed put wood rack to back window on to protect plus see thru also sides plus door on back like tailgate to or pivit on hinges! Something like Animals haul to Slaughter house or Stock Yards in farming! If not three steal rails on front near back cab , side and back to high above cab be like logs hauler of Firewood or Highway Tractor transport trucks in A plus B trains trailers do in to take transport logs to mills ! Get I am saying and maybe if ask Mrs JT your wife JT if sew up skills the seat in Green truck she be happy help in repairs! Also should be on carburetor on throttle cable check see a screw up the idle should be at 750 to 850 RPM on gauge reading and if choke need adjustment too on spring on hose too not leak too!
I am a Massey fanatic (we owned a Massey dealership until 1985). I have restored a 1080, 175 & 204 Work Bull so far. This was the ONLY time I felt you shouldn’t have gone on the cheap with that break system on anything I’ve seen you do. I hope to see you do a full restore on that brake system one day.
Like I said, This isn’t going over 20 mph and it’s only hauling wood. Not on the road. In other circumstances I would have done the brakes properly, but this needs to stop on a trail, not a panic stop on the highway
Perfect fix JT. I was going to suggest maybe just installing a driveshaft disk and a caliper but you are already over half way there with the drum style.... 👍👍
They make a kit for the old ford f600's. It eliminates the hydro booster under the cab and replaces the master cylinder with a newer style one for a 90s f350.
Nice one j.t. that went OK. Great job it does what you want it to do.. please don't take wrong way. How you just didn't ues the hand brake on it. . It's same set up on a old land rover so if we had no brakes it was bit easier to do hill start as well. Only I thought. J.t. but great job I must admit. From Andy in uk
@jtsbarnngrill6873 my fault j.t I keep forgetting most of the trucks . And run cables. All are old stuff is all rods and bars over here the new stuff has cables. And are hand brake is in between the seats. There were a few cars which and brake was at bottom off dash. But not many. I do help my sister daughter and her husband out there u.s cars . Because you also have a peadel on the floor as well. Sorry about that.
Word of caution to be aware of. With a brake only on the drives haft, if you lose traction with either side of the rear tires....you will have NO brakes because it will spin the side that loses traction backwards across the differential. If you have solid traction it will work for now...but you definitely want to upgrade that to a standard dual master cylinder setup from a newer truck as someone mentioned earlier. What you have now would best be described as "just slightly less sketchy"....but definitely still sketchy.
You are my hero!!! I can see my friends doing stupid sh1t like that when I was younger. Matter of fact I'm pretty certain their cattle truck never had brakes let alone a FLOOR BOARD!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Very nice idea and fix JT. You weren't thinking just outside the box, you were right under it! Love having a vehicle that you can sit up under and work too. My Jeep is like that. And I bet t he daughter w as disappointed she got you in the arm on the first try. Probably wanted to do a few retakes, didn't she? You know, getting to throw stuff at dad and get away with it. Inboard brakes on a C-40.. sort of.😅 Good idea and vid!
It's cool being able to buy rear breaks for a 1968 Chevy c20 and have everything you need to make your breaks work perfectly. Great job JT.

Go to the junkyard and find a comfortable bench seat to replace the old one.
Right on! It needs it
Some old couch cushions could donate some replacement foam, and then all you need is a cheap, right-size seat cover.
A good fix and now you can pull the brake system and sort it at your leisure while the old girl earns her keep.
Right! That is what I was thinking
Love it that you have found an alternative way of getting braces without having to change lots of things

Simple farmer fix. With this setup the rear axle gearset is working for you.
Yep, that’s the ticket. 😉
South African farmers always say:

also, the older semi trucks only ran rear brakes. the Edison motors guys had a video about that on one of their logging trucks.
