Agreed it is binary based to make it more universally understood and readable in any orientation, but I always looked at it as "I"= In Service and "O" = Out of Service. Nice review and love the base!

I own the Bauer cordless circular saw, recip saw, cordless jigsaw, cordless sander, 1/4 impact, cordless drill, corded 1/2" drill, some cordless work lights, and probably forgetting some. But they are all great. I am self employed and do home repair and remodel and use them hard. Have not had one issue with any of the Bauer tools. Plus if you buy the one year warranty, you can go once a year and exchange the tool for a new one, no questions asked. So just for the price of the one year warranty you can get a brand new tool every year. I write the purchase date with a sharpie on each tool so I will know when to exchange them for new. Cant beat it. Definitely getting the router and bandsaw soon.

Great review. Kept me entertained. Will be watching more of your videos. The power switch markings are zero and one. It’s a binary reference. Zero is off and 1 is on in binary code.

I'd go with the DeWalt. The Bosch is a good router, but the DeWalt has a much better depth adjustment
The I (line, commonly confused with a "-") was a schematic symbol for a closed circuit. Which means the electricity can flow and the device is powered on.
The O (circle, actually a "zero") is the symbol for an open circuit. Meaning the circuit is incomplete and the electricity will not flow, so the has no power.

Thank you for the review. I’ve been looking at the Bauer router to replace or update a Black and Decker router my Dad gave me. I think it’s over 15 years old.
I have found the Bauer has worked well for me so far.
It's a decent router, especially for the price of $60 on sale.
Mrs Vicki is a national treasure lol. So how’s this router doing now? Have y’all had any issues? I’m getting away from my cordless routers and there’s a $50 coupon for this and I was just wondering if it’d be a waste of money. I know harbor freight is hit or miss with their power tools, but I hear they’re getting better.

The corded Bauer is a pretty good deal. There's a lot better routers out there, but if you have a $50 coupon, you can't go wrong.
Well the Bauer spent the night at my house a couple of weeks ago. The only reason it didn’t go back the same day is because it took too long for the spindle to cool off so I could get my bit out. Even the base got too hot to touch.
Thanks for the review. I'm still looking for an inexpensive router, my battery powered Ryobi is okay for learning but I can't see it working for real work.
The 0 and the - represent an "open" and "closed" circuit. 0 is for open, not connected, OFF and the - (dash) is for closed, connected, ON. If you look at your computer you'll see that the power button, most likely, is a circle with a line dropped in from the top - that's the same representation 0/- combined to one image Off/on.
Question: What base are you using on that Bauer? Looks like it might match the Makita but I can't see what's written on the base.
Correct O is for open the circuit is "open - not complete/not connected (no power - OFF)". I is for closed/completed circuit "connected/flowing (powered/live - ON).
I think this one might work well for you. Feels very solid. Thank you for the info. This is definitely different hole pattern than the Makita. We have the Bauer base plate on our website now.

Eric, I can never remember if the "O" stands for ON or OFF either. You are not alone.
I bought the Bauer before I saw your video for a CNC machine from Canada. The CNC is made for the Makita so I think I'm taking it back to Harbor Freight and getting the Makita. Thanks for comparing these.
So far I'm happy with both...
O means Off and I means Ipen.

I did on mine before I knew better, but it's not necessary, the hole saw goes right thru it.
Question - If I want to cut ring sort of shape in the center of a board, could I use a drill press (or a hand drill) to drill a starter hole of the right depth and width for my router bit to set in. Then use the router to dig out the full ring shape. I'm thinking that might be just as good as a plunge adaptor for the router that I am planning to purchase.
We never use the plunge adapter. You can drop our spiral up cut bit straight in. Just make sure you do it in several passes, depending on the thickness of the eood

Do the base plate screw holes line up exactly the same for purposes of purchasing a Rockler router table base plate?
We have several different base plates for all different routers. I'm not 100% sure if they'll work for a router table though. But we do have a blank router base plate that you can drill to fit your router if we don't have one that will fit it.

Yeah, it only takes 1/4" bits. For a flat background, you'll want to use the Spiral upcut bits
The O and Dash made me laugh. That all started with computers. The Dash is actually a (1) One and the O is a (0) Zero, this is computer or digital bit language like in the movie "Matrix". The 1 one represents enable or ON and the 0 zero represents disabled or OFF. I Enjoyed the video. You're a very knowledgable and talented guy.

Are the collet nuts interchangeable? I lost the nut on my Bauer
I just purchased the base plate from your site. Is it necessary to cut the 2” hole on the back like you did or can I use the router with only one window (as is)?

Thanks Dave. We have a home made CNC that we bought used and replaced the heavy router that was on it with Bauer you reviewed. Cuts great. I have a few questions. The collet that comes with it only accepts 1/4 inch shank. Where can I purchase a collet that fits this router that can hold a 1/8 inch shank.
I also would like to know your recommendation (if you know) for the speed the router should spin and at what a good feed rate would be for cutting pvc sheets.

Happy to hear the Bauer is working for you. I don't know that they make an 1/8" collet for that router. However you should be able to get a "collet reducer" for 1/4" down to 1/8". If you google it you should find them easy. When we route PVC on our inverted router we run the router at full speed and seems to work well. That being said I really don't have much experience with running a CNC. I think this is another google question.... Thanks again for watching

Have you ever had any problems with a "Run Away Speed Dial" on the Mikita router. Many I've spoken to say that in time the speed dial loosens and will not hold an RPM setting.
I haven't had that issue, but to be honest I use mainly the DeWalt. So my Makita doesn't have a whole lot of hours on it

Thanks for this, I seen they just released a Hercules 7amp now but the spindle and collet nut are much smaller than the Bauer and personally I don’t trust it.

I'm sorry this is a very late comment, but the "I" and "O" is actually a "1" (power), and "0" (off). It comes from the binary system for electronics. I know no one was asking and I'm sure someone before me has said something, but I didn't feel like going through all the comments lol.

I tried making my own jig base and the makita pattern isn't the same, it's close but not exactly the same.

Have you run the Bauer for an extended time to see how hot it gets? It's the one downside I've seen in reviews.

Yeah! I got a Bauer trimming router and gets really hot after minutes of working. I do not know how long it is gonna survive.

Can someone tell me the exact diameter of the bauer aluminum body?.. and the lower rpm range can be a plus. The dewalt starts at 16k vs 10k on the bauer. And is the bauer collet nut interchangeable with the makita or bosch or dewalt?
The Bauer motor diameter is approx 2.540. I don't use lower RPM on any wood I cut. I don't know if the collet nuts are interchangeable. I would not suggest switching collet nuts or collets to any other router.
I’ve always looked at the I/O as “I” meaning in service and “O” as out of service to help remember if the tool is on or off. The I/O also reminds me of computer code and the corresponding state of a transistor or mosfet. .

What size hole did you make in the back and what type of bit did you use?
2" hole and we did it with a metal cutting hole saw in the drill press.
Do you have a base designed for the Bauer router? Or, did you use one designed for a different one? I think the switch is "I" for power in, and "O" for power out, so I agree with Eric.

Hey Eric, another great video. I have a questions about the Bauer router. Does it have the built in L.E.D. lights? Bosch makes 2 different trim router, the colt 1.0hp (5.6 amp) and the Colt 1.25hp (7amp). Have you tried the Bosch Colt 1.25hp (7amp) router? If so how does it compare to the Dewalt 611? I have been looking to up grade, and the Bosch feels like it very well made, smooth height adjusting and it looks like it has the power I'm looking for. And by the way, I've been married long enough to know Its a lot easier to just say "yes honey your right" LOL. Thanks again guys. You guys are awesome.

I have the Bosch Colt but I have the older version, 1.0 HP. Haven't tried the bigger one yet. That maybe the next one for me...SHHH don't tell Vicki. I do say "Yes honey you're right" more than I like to admit.... Happy you found us and like what we do.

I O comes from computer development, it represents the binary of 1 for on and 0 for off.

What about longevity? I need a new router since my last one burnt up but I rarely use it so I don't want to spend alot. Between this one and the Ryobi full size router for $15 more. Just don't really like the Bauer only having a 90 day warranty. Just going to be doing round overs mainly.
I've had no issues with the Bauer. I think it's a great deal. I think they have a extended warranty available, but that's extra cost. If you're only doing round overs I would think this would last for years, just my opinion...

No LED lights on the Bauer. For me that doesn't matter I always use extra light.

It is from the computer world, ones, and zeros. They represent both the binary symbols '1' (meaning on) and '0' (meaning off). So it is for off but it is a zero not an "O" letter.

I feel your pain Eric but one thing I learned after 25 years of marriage 99.9% of the time The Queen Is Right the rest of the time we can just let them think they're right and get away with it thank you very much for the review I've been debating on buying a new router but really can't swing the cost of a good one like the DeWalt 611 although I do want to try to find one with an interior light

thanks the alum body is smaller diameter than makita so that wont work for me..i use the router as a spindle for my cnc machine and diameter needs to be same if i want to use the same spindle bracket...and i need lower rpms for doing aluminum which is why i like the 10k start..oh well..thanks for the info

Can you cut a template with Bauer, since it has enough power? I seen some older videos with your father talking about using a Porter-cable template guide.Can a template guide fit on it for the spiral bit?
Yes the Bauer original base plate is made to accept the template guide. However I would make make heavy cuts in multiple passes.
It cannot be letter O = off because both words On and Off started from O letter. It’s circle 0 that mean off. Means no anything plugged in the electrical circle.

Always love watching your videos.. laugh a bit and learn a lot, but I just have to say, speaking of laughing, this is one of those videos one has to laugh about. in this case, a router comparison. you can take the best router in the world, but if you put a crappy bit in it, you will get crappy results. likewise, if you put a sharp bit in a so so router, you can get excellent results. Of course having the right power does help however.
Thank you for watching and the kind words, and input. I totally agree. A good router is important, however I have said for years 80-90% of making a good freehand carved sign is the RIGHT BITS & THE RIGHT WOOD. Beyond that it's a few details & practice...

The power switch is a rocker switch and it has two symbols on the face: “O” and “-“. They are the International symbols for power “On” and power “Off”. “O” means the power is OFF and “-“means the power is ON.

Does your Bauer get hot? Mine gets hot after 5mins
Yes all the palm routers in the summertime get hot. That's another reason having a base plate with handles is a good idea. Also you can ad moleskin to the side of the housing and it works great.

The bauer branded hf stuff does seem better made but are also more pricey than the junk chic elect crap...hf does seem to be carrying higher quality more pricey products and have eliminated the 20% coupon and when they do have the coupon its not usable on 90% of the items anyways..seems hf is changing their marketing towards quality and less on cheap price only.
