These jokes are so much funnier within the full context. They were making an NBC executive absolutely livid. He kept demanding Norm leave OJ alone, so he did even more jokes.
It makes what I just said about him all the more hilarious to me thank you. He really didn't give a fuck. I love how he'd drive a point home mercilessly regardless of crowd reaction.
Take it easy or you will get fired. Enough with the OJ jokes. He signs the checks. They are golfing buddies. Then Norm's opening joke after the verdict: ''Well it is finally official, murder is legal in the state of California.'' Shaking his head like how is that for taking it easy? Don ohlmeyer was the nbc executive who was best friends with oj ( oj even stayed at his house after being acquitted to escape the press ) , don repeatedly got angry at the mentions of oj on the show and demanded that no more jokes were told about him. Norm and his co writer Jim Downey behind the scenes continued to write oj jokes secretly and tell the producers they were using other material and then norm would say them more every week live . Eventually norm was called to go see don and don told norm he wasn’t funny and fired him from snl. Don Then began a huge smear campaign against norm refusing to put any norm related project in the future on any nbc airwaves not even any paid advertisements. A few years later norm was invited back onto snl to host for one night and norm got his revenge live on air in his opening monologue saying how obviously it’s not him that sucks it’s clearly the show 😂 fearless. It was recently revealed after norm died by his fellow friend and snl co-writer Jim Downey that when norm was asked to go see don before being fired he was told that don was initially going to fire jim under the guise that it’s not norms fault and he was only reading what was given to him but norm did not like that and stood by his friend & said it was all his own work & fault resulting in just norm being fired at the time. I think not too long after his friend was also fired later on. I was lucky enough to converse with norm privately online in the last couple of years of his life and he was even more amazing then I already thought. I really enjoy Colin Jost and Michael Che for their banter and chemistry. Seth Meyers did pretty good also. But there just wasn't anyone better for delivering the late night monologue style punchline better than Norm. Even if I know what to expect, his timing and delivery is still so impecable that I find myself laughing when I wasn't expecting to. He never compromised his style even when it cost him professional advancement.
Norm is like the kid you tell not to do something, but they not only do it, they don't break eye contact with you while they do it!! 😂😂 RIP Norm. Good video 🙏✌💚
Norm was brutally honest. As usual, he does it all with the same smirk... I think that's his one only facial expression.... And with that smirk, he found his calling quite easy. This is why Norm got fired from SNL. Because one of the higher ups at NBC was friends with OJ. He was told to let up on OJ but he doubled down like a G. Lol. RIP Norm
Ironically, Norm was a genius of unvetted observational sarcastic comedy... GENIUS level!!
