10:25 It *is* a backtrack that Sua is harmonizing with, but its not Siyeons voice. Sua is harmonizing with herself. She did a great job covering Siyeons harder parts in the song during live shows, considering she's the main dancer
This happens to be a more rock focused mini than usual. Since day 1 / album 1 they've been diverse with ballads and other genres (edm, jazz, funk, punk, etc.)
Thanks for checking out the Virtuous album! As others have said this is one of their more rock focused albums, but they still managed to sneak in a ballad to make everyone cry. They have an EXTREMELY diverse discography. Rock only makes up about 30% of their discography and most of those are rock fusions with other genres. The rest of the songs cover a ton of different genres. As for ballads, they have a bunch, but they're all a bit different. I love the intro on this album. They always have these really intense intros that set the mood for the album but they're usually only 60 - 90 seconds in length. This is the first time they've done a full-length song as one and it takes you on a journey. I also find myself closing my eyes while listening to it. Justice always hits. The truncated "fight" in the chorus is definitely due to the choreo. It's very intense choreo and considering that they always sing live it's got to be an exhausting song to perform, even if they're mostly stationary while delivering those lines. Siyeon is the one who was out, the one you thought. Her first belt in the first chorus is covered by Handong, who's officially a sub-vocalist, and her final harmony with Gahyeon and the final belt in the song are covered by Sua, who's also, officially a sub-vocalist. To be fair though, the roles haven't been updated since debut and they're all capable of doing main vocal in most other groups. They're a stacked group talent wise. I agree with you on Stomp. Justice is the prayer and preparation before the fight when they're getting themselves ready, both physically and mentally. Stomp is the actual fight, where they're in the thick of it. When they say stomp, stomp, stomp, leading into the chorus I imagine a line of warriors stomping forward in unison while they advance on an enemy. 2 Rings is a slang term for motorcycles in Korean (or so I've been told) and the lyrics seem to reflect that. There's also an argument that the song could be a metaphor for a physical relationship as well. Personally, I think the song is a metaphor for the freedom of choosing your own path and once chosen going after it with everything you have, recklessly even. This also plays into the themes of the album around warriors and fighting for Justice. 2 Rings has a bit of a country rock vibe, which is the first time they've had a Country vibe, but they did a great job with it. Fireflies is a gorgeous ballad. All the harmonies and adlibs in this song are gorgeous and the acapella section at the end is breathtaking. Siyeon (shi sound, you got it right), is the one doing the adlibs in this one. She is the main vocal and she's a monster when she belts but she's also capable of doing delicate and soft and everything in between. Have you given thoughts on doing the rest of their discography? If so, I'd say go back to the beginning and work forward. You can do title tracks first and then go back and do albums if you want. Whatever works best for you. They also do a bunch of covers and are often called cover queens because they're do so many, and the covers usually end up being as good or better than the originals. Whatever you do, enjoy the journey, they're a fantastic group, both musically, and as people.
Thanks so much for the breakdown. And yes, I do plan on getting into their discography. Not sure if I want to start from the very beginning or more recent and work my way backwards. Any recommendations?
@@fonvibestv I like starting from the beginning since you get to see how they've evolved and changed over time but it's your journey, feel free to do it how you're most comfortable. If you really want a shock though you could always check out Minx first. I'm not sure if anyone mentioned it to you yet but 5 of the 7 members of Dreamcatcher were once a different group called Minx that debuted in 2014. Minx had a typical KPop sound but they got drowned out in the ocean of similar sounding girl groups. Due to some poor management decisions and lack of resources, since they're from a smaller company, the group disbanded. Thankfully, instead of cancelling their contracts their CEO decided to bet everything on them. He sold his controlling stock in his company to have the funds to redebut them. They added two new members and Dreamcatcher was born. The two releases that Minx had are Why did you come to my home & Love Shake (which has a mini album).
@@fonvibestv i think you can do either way unless you care about lore and story elements . They have the nightmare storyline which is their first 6 mvs. Next is the Dystopia trilogy which is 3 mvs (scream, boca, odd eye). Lastly is the Apocalypse trilogy which is also 3 mvs (maison, vision, bon voyage). They also have a few other mvs that dont have any lore or story tied to them sprinkled throughout as well. I would say if you want to work your way backwards just make sure you keep the order for each storyline intact but again if its not something that interests you and you just want to hear the music then by all means do as you like.
Lol once you get that "2 Rings" is A) about riding motorcycles B) as a metaphor for sex, the choreo really comes together 🤭 "Stomp" is also my favorite! Yeah Dreamcatcher's Korean discography overall is extremely diverse (yes, many ballads) outside of their rock-driven title tracks! Interestingly enough, the last three releases have been the most rock Korean albums. So it seems they're leaning into more rock-heavy albums lately. As a rock fan above all, it makes me very happy! I think in the past they wanted diverse b-sides to, of course, showcase their versatility but also offer an album better for the Korean market which wasn't big on rock.
Dreamcatcher has some of the best ballads and in general some of the most diverse discography. From hardcore J-Metal to hard rock, symphonic rock, punk rock, EDM all the way to Jazz, R&B, Reggae. YES Jazz, Reggae... 75-80% of my personal favorite Dreamcatcher songs are not title tracks, yet most judge them based on those solely. They are really good vocalists coming from a small company (DreamCatcher company). Small company means large creative freedom but same reason it took them a lot of time to get global recognition, but over the past decade they have not released one bad song, and now they are close to 100 tracks... It just that personal taste matters. My personal ranking is 2 Rings >Justice > Fireflies > Stomp . And this shows how powerful this album is as I have seen plenty of album reviews by now and all 4 tracks were ranked no1 by at least 3+ person as all 4 are really good tracks, rest is up to personal taste, preference or just mood. And even with rank 4, I love Stomp and that ethereal "wonder world" part by Yoohyeon and JiU are my regular recurring earworms.
Ok this was such a fun listen . My ranking kept changing throughout my listening but I think I have my final ranking! What's your favorite song from the album?
In addition to the enormous musical quality, the members of Dreamcatcher have a wonderful personality, great charisma and are natural comedians. I recommend you check out some guides to fall in love with them
SuA and Handong sang Siyeon’s parts during that justice performance, they didit live without Siyeon’s vocals
