This season has been building towards this showdown ever since All Might's retirement and Bakugo's rescue, but the outcome of this test, that being Bakugo failing and Deku passing, just pushed Bakugo to finally act.
In the manga, Stain was shown to be in one the cells, as Allmight was walking through the prison; and he gave a shocked reaction, when he saw Allmight. I don't know why they cut that out of the anime, especially since they established that Stain's still alive; and the huge influence he's having on both heroes and villains.
Bakugo is VERY observant, and he's most knowledgeable about deku bc he watches him lol, same goes for deku they're just on each other's radar. You really see that in later seasons
I LOVE how excited Montana got when she found out they would all get a detailed breakdown of how they scored on the rescue exam. She was practically vibrating with excitement over the academics.
It's crazy how good this episode is when you realize that it's literally just talking. Forreal, this episode mainly consists of three long speeches/conversations (the department guy's speech to the students, All Might and All For One's conversation, and, of course, Bakugo confronting Midoriya about One For All). Truly a testament to this show's character writing that it can afford to take a whole episode slowly and STILL make it stand out.
Yeah, I noticed this about Netflix's Daredevil show as well. There's something about the way an action-oriented show just taking a hard left turn and having episode just be a few characters standing around and talking that makes it either the worst piece of garbage ever put out into the world or high goddamn art, and there's no in-between. Daredevil's episodes like this were art, and so is this one. It makes no sense, but I love it regardless.
I always laugh at Midoriya and Mineta looking for both of their names together like, "Mi mi mi mi mi". They're an underrated duo I actually enjoy quite a bit. Midoriya definitely helped Mineta be more bearable.
A little fun fact, in the manga up until this point Toga's name was spelt using different Kanji, because the regular way her name is spelled alludes to her quirk!

@@amiridandrea6188 Earlier in the episode Todoroki and Inasa apologize to each other, and Todoroki says that their argument during the test was the result of his past actions (aka when he was rude to him during the UA entrance exam). When Kacchan confronts Deku about getting his quirk from All Might, Deku thinks to himself that Kacchan figuring it out is the consequence of his past actions (aka telling him he got his quirk from someone else back in season one). It's cool that both Todoroki and Deku had to realize how their past mistakes were still affecting them in the same episode. When two character have similar plot/storyline in fiction, it's called "mirrored" or "parallel" storytelling, and can used to show how similar two characters are or to drive home a message to the audience. Avatar the Last Airbender does this a lot with Aang and Zuko!
Montana's slip with Symbol of Hope is actually very fitting for Deku. Peace and Hope are similar within this realm, but Hope feels a lot more unifying and attainable. I guess to me peace feels more like the end and you have no more work to do. While hope keeps the spirit to attain and sustain peace alive. It helps separate him from All Might as well.
My favorite joke that my friends and I make is that, Deku officially has his provisional hero license now. By the Legal definition granted by the nation of Japan Deku has now legally completed the ABSOLUTE BARE MINIMUM of his dream. He now is (legally) a Hero (provisionally). The real journey starts here.
i never get the hate this arc get we get to meet so many new ... mostly interesting character the newly introduced quirks are all great and it triggers one of the most important themes in the current story : allmight's departure and the role the new generation have to take
Maybe cause its another school training thing, the stakes doesn't feel as high as previous arcs, even though the are, and its typically tbe same reasons people dislike or don't like as ku h the 2nd arc of season 4
Because people don't like exposition. They just want fights. Anything that slows down the story generally gets ire by a lot of people. It's quite silly.
I just don't like that Izuku and the show give into thier Bakusimping and allows himself to nearly get expelled and let Bakugo in on One for All. That said, Bakugo failing the exam was so so satisfying. Too bad it was ruined by the above.

I love the next episode so much. The boys' relationship continues to grow. I still think the hero exams are a little dumb. Also love that we got a confirmation to what Himiko's quirk was.
I still think the exam wasn't very rationale with only the top 100 applicants of the first round were given a chance for their provisional license. Imagine that you have a quirk that isn't good in combat, or something you can only use for a short amount of time per day, those people have a big disadvantage compared to those with combat quirks. Someone could've done textbook rescue work in the second round but weren't allowed to because they weren't in the 100 cutoff.
That's why you team up with the rest of your classmates. Like how Mineta, Tentacole and Jirou did, even how that Makabe guy that just hardens things (mr. Smith) and the girl that just retracts into herself did, from Shindo's class, to cover each other's quirk's weakness or short comings
We have FINALLY arrived to this part of the season. This and next episode are always HIGHLY anticipated moments for the fandom. Easy top 5 episode for the season here…and probably a top 5 for the SHOW it’s setting up. 18 of the 20 Class 1-A passed. Each of them may have their own issues in many ways, but they aren’t ruled by their issues out AND IN the field. That’s what sets them apart from Bakugo and Todoroki. Only exception I would give is Deku, but his circumstances are on a whole different level. (Mineta is not an exception because he always steps up ON the field. He’s often a dumpster fire elsewhere) Todoroki if so much as ANYONE brings up Endeavor he starts spiraling from his trauma. Inasa seriously got to him. And Bakugo…was on an inevitable course. This test was NOT built for him in anyway. And he avoided the aspects he would excel in. The test scoring was such a great detail for these kids. It shows who truly is great at rescuing and critical decision making. And allowing the extra chance for those that failed because they performed so well in the 1500 free for all is just yet another big jump. These 100 weren’t just lucky to pass. There’s no real way for that to happen considering the massive skill levels on the field. Inasa still wears his heart on his sleeve and still doesn’t like those that aren’t very emotional implying indifference. I think he made sure to say that with a smile straight to Todoroki because he WANTS things to change. They just aren’t there yet. And Todoroki read through the lines as if he’s ready to see what changes. He made sure to apologize too. Inasa is on a crusade to like as many things as possible. And I imagine it doesn’t sit well to be on such terms. So we’ll see what happens from there. Deku looking over his license and looking back on what he’s been through is a GREAT key to progress. You might have to climb GIGANTIC metaphorical cliffs in your life, but just because you haven’t reached the top doesn’t mean you won’t make it. If you look back and see how far you’ve come, it’s best not to think you could always fall if you’re not at the top. But it IS good to think you’ve made it as far as you have because you worked so hard. And you’re not about to fall BECAUSE you put through so much effort to make it so far. Yes there’s more to go but celebrate where you are. And that means a LOT to Deku who has LIGHTYEARS to travel and Uraraka just really loves the sentiment. It’s time to talk about Camie’s trait! She has…Reinfield’s syndrome. Because Camie…is Toga. YUP. This makes sense. When Camie was introduced she perked up when Inasa was bowing so hard he got his head to bleed. She assaulted Deku and got in his ear, while fawning over Uraraka in a weird way too. And now that we know how her quirk works, that means Camie herself is in some DEEP trouble. Toga held the Camie form ALL DAY. For MULTIPLE days if Hair Man is to be believed. That’s likely a LOT of blood needed for that. And her mission? Get Deku’s blood. She was freaky BEFORE the Toga reveal. Now that we KNOW, that makes things SO much worse. What would she have done if Uraraka and Sero didn’t step in?! And heck, what if it was JUST Uraraka? She may have been obsessed enough to go for them BOTH. This whole obsession earworm that Uraraka has is BECAUSE of Toga. And it’s even BETTER she stood up for him where she could. And Deku STILL doesn’t get to clear the air around what he saw and what he wasn’t believed about. And then we have the BIG conversations to drop. All-Might goes to AFO to try and glean information from him. This is a TERRIFYING conversation. I said this back at All-Might’s last stand. AFO at the last moments of the fight revealed we ACTUALLY don’t now how many quirks he has or can use at once. Likewise with the damage All-Might did to him to END that fight is not even COMPARABLE to the damage he once did to him 6 years ago. And even though both are out of commission, ONE of them CAN still perform. And HE’S the one that gets to taunt about how much he knows about what is outside his cell. Almost all evil in the world is often a circumstantial push from some kind of core the person THINKS they are missing. Even the well off. It’s an inadequacy or desperation. But AFO is different. There is NONE of that. He WILLINGLY chose this. He sought out in life to be an ACTUAL devil. And he is LIVING THE DREAM. He is under ALL THIS security and we ALL know that he’s just biding his time. He may not have come here on purpose but he VERY well could have gotten himself in a position where it doesn’t matter if he won or lost that confrontation. All-Might can’t be a martyr, and he can’t act when he once did it ALL. And AFO won this outcome by LOSING. And he makes it seem like he’s here by FREAKING CHOICE. The ONLY victory All-Might gets to walk away with is AFO has not stalled or stopped Deku’s ascent as the new OFA wielder. And it doesn’t matter how much he does to All-Might anymore who has already lost almost everything in his life. Deku is in IMMENSE danger but is living HIS dream. And one way or another, DEKU will one day be the one AFO must fear. That’s the thing about these all powerful struggles. We know only the main protagonist can beat the main antagonist. But the OPPOSITE is true too. And we are all our own protagonist of our stories. And then the NEXT lid gets blown off. Bakugo was ALWAYS going to find out about Deku having All-Might’s power. The timing, the confrontations he witnessed, the POWER ITSELF. This movement of energy and accomplishment that Bakugo has been SO threatened by. He’s at long last been given the puzzle pieces. Bakugo has come across not just a giant secret but a world encompassing cataclysmic NIGHTMARE. Deku himself isn’t fully in this nightmare just yet but it’s ABSOLUTELY hurdling his direction. Although AFO doesn’t seem to have told anyone he KNOWS Izuku Midoriya is the 9th wielder. Deku is only TEMPORARILY safe. Bakugo stepping into this is TERRIFYING. Bakugo is in his OWN nightmare even if it’s just not even comparable. It’s like he’s been circling the abyss. His own worldviews from the beginning have been shattered and now he’s looking into it. And Deku IN THIS position has nothing he can do but open the floodgates. No point in denying what HE gave Bakugo in Season 1. I don’t think it even needs justifying. This episode is nothing short of outstanding. And next time….whooof. We’ve been waiting for this one.

Sometimes the story has its shortcomings if it’s not your preference, (it happens to be mine) but when you go through that effort just to have these characters do nothing but interact, it helps them BE these real people. If you want to be engaged in these characters efforts, you need to slow down and let them just be themselves with no strings on them. It’s why I’m fond of the series I am. And it’s ordinarily when they do THIS. Next time I’m going to drop the analytical hammer I’ve been waiting to drop for a WHILE. Because the layers of THAT episode are THROUGH THE ROOF.
I do disagree on one point you made about the test. "These 100 weren’t just lucky to pass. There’s no real way for that to happen considering the massive skill levels on the field." There definitely was an element of luck. Think of the hundred people Yoarashi took out at once. They walked up to a bade matchup, and didn't get a chance to escape. It looked to me like he was keeping them trapped with his wind while he stole their balls and struck them down. Yes, windy boy rightfully won that matchup, but that doesn't mean that some of them were not better than some of the 100 who passed. Some of them could have been better than say Hagakure or Ojiro, but they never got a chance to show it since they were taken down in one big move really early on. That just means that the test matches with reality, where sometimes you get unlucky with your matchup and don't have a chance to escape, but luck definitely played a factor. It would be like any decently strong villain turning a corner into All Might. They might be better than 95% of all other villians, and would have stood a chance against any other hero, but they were unlucky enough to wind up facing off against the Number 1.
@@JDP5127 yes there is the luck of the matchup advantage I can’t deny that. That’s a good interpretation. I’m more thinking about situations like Todoroki with the ninja school. They were BUILT to face him but Todoroki outplayed all 10 of them at a disadvantage. I wouldn’t call that lucky, I call that Todoroki outplayed them with greater skill. Same goes for Momo’s circumstances. Most of Class A got out because they outplayed their opponents specifically looking for them. But situations like Inasa Yoarashi basically having NO counters is unlucky for the 120 he defeated. No one had an answer. Yes the worn out people were unlucky to come across Yo Shindo and crew who were looking for the exhausted. It is more of a factor than I gave it credit.
I gotta say, All Might hugging Bakugo just goes to show how he’s honestly still worthy of his title despite being retired. He’s not just a good hero, but a good person.
They're not super important scores since theyre basically intelligence tests but knowing bakugo's placement in the midterms compared to everyone else does let us know hes very very smart yaomomo -- iida bakugo midoriya todoroki tsu jiro ojiro mineta shoji -- koji sato uraraka tokoyami kirishima hagakure sero -- aoyama mina kaminari seperations are just for colors they used in the anime, i dont think they mean anything other than general vibe of the scores
He's smart and dumb at the same time. He should've been put at his place. Ofa is deku's business, not his. Bakugou has nothing to do with deku. He just couldn't accept someone is better than him on something. He's a bad person. This is bakugou, not the one he is now.
I actually physically cheered when it was revealed Bakugo failed. The Bakusimps can claim he's actually a great guy all they want but his actions paint him as prime grade jerkass. Unfortunately the satisfaction was ruined when Deku gave into his stockholm syndrome and allowed Bakujerk to nearly get him expelled.
I really hope you are kidding. This show has some of the worst writing I have ever seen. The author repeatedly breaks his own rules on how quirks work, (just as one example, if bakugo's quirk is to detonate the nitroglycerin sweat on his palms, then by definition he cannot launch projectile blasts like his "ap shot" both as a beam and as small pellets. Both are direct violations of how his quirk was stated to work at the beginning of the series.) and the dialogue is frequently below average. And don't even get me started on the extremely one sided fights that drag on for no reason (again, bakugo as an example, he could have beaten ochaco in lless than ten seconds whenever he wanted by blasting her out of the ring without much challenge and they made it an entire episode as though she ever had a chance.) This show has highlights and "hype" moments, but neither of those are indicative of good writing.
To be fair, most of us weren't aware of his genuine good traits until after this arc really....With the exception of a few(myself included. I loved Bakugo from the start tbh...)

The test scoring was such a great detail for these kids. It shows who truly is great at rescuing and critical decision making. And allowing the extra chance for those that failed because they performed so well in the 1500 free for all is just yet another big jump. These 100 weren’t just lucky to pass. There’s no real way for that to happen considering the massive skill levels on the field.
Inasa still wears his heart on his sleeve and still doesn’t like those that aren’t very emotional implying indifference. I think he made sure to say that with a smile straight to Todoroki because he WANTS things to change. They just aren’t there yet. And Todoroki read through the lines as if he’s ready to see what changes. He made sure to apologize too. Inasa is on a crusade to like as many things as possible. And I imagine it doesn’t sit well to be on such terms. So we’ll see what happens from there.
Deku looking over his license and looking back on what he’s been through is a GREAT key to progress. You might have to climb GIGANTIC metaphorical cliffs in your life, but just because you haven’t reached the top doesn’t mean you won’t make it. If you look back and see how far you’ve come, it’s best not to think you could always fall if you’re not at the top. But it IS good to think you’ve made it as far as you have because you worked so hard. And you’re not about to fall BECAUSE you put through so much effort to make it so far. Yes there’s more to go but celebrate where you are. And that means a LOT to Deku who has LIGHTYEARS to travel and Uraraka just really loves the sentiment.
It’s time to talk about Camie’s trait! She has…Reinfield’s syndrome. Because Camie…is Toga. YUP. This makes sense. When Camie was introduced she perked up when Inasa was bowing so hard he got his head to bleed. She assaulted Deku and got in his ear, while fawning over Uraraka in a weird way too. And now that we know how her quirk works, that means Camie herself is in some DEEP trouble. Toga held the Camie form ALL DAY. For MULTIPLE days if Hair Man is to be believed. That’s likely a LOT of blood needed for that. And her mission? Get Deku’s blood. She was freaky BEFORE the Toga reveal. Now that we KNOW, that makes things SO much worse. What would she have done if Uraraka and Sero didn’t step in?! And heck, what if it was JUST Uraraka? She may have been obsessed enough to go for them BOTH. This whole obsession earworm that Uraraka has is BECAUSE of Toga. And it’s even BETTER she stood up for him where she could. And Deku STILL doesn’t get to clear the air around what he saw and what he wasn’t believed about.
And then we have the BIG conversations to drop. All-Might goes to AFO to try and glean information from him. This is a TERRIFYING conversation. I said this back at All-Might’s last stand. AFO at the last moments of the fight revealed we ACTUALLY don’t now how many quirks he has or can use at once. Likewise with the damage All-Might did to him to END that fight is not even COMPARABLE to the damage he once did to him 6 years ago. And even though both are out of commission, ONE of them CAN still perform. And HE’S the one that gets to taunt about how much he knows about what is outside his cell. Almost all evil in the world is often a circumstantial push from some kind of core the person THINKS they are missing. Even the well off. It’s an inadequacy or desperation. But AFO is different. There is NONE of that. He WILLINGLY chose this. He sought out in life to be an ACTUAL devil. And he is LIVING THE DREAM. He is under ALL THIS security and we ALL know that he’s just biding his time. He may not have come here on purpose but he VERY well could have gotten himself in a position where it doesn’t matter if he won or lost that confrontation. All-Might can’t be a martyr, and he can’t act when he once did it ALL. And AFO won this outcome by LOSING. And he makes it seem like he’s here by FREAKING CHOICE.
The ONLY victory All-Might gets to walk away with is AFO has not stalled or stopped Deku’s ascent as the new OFA wielder. And it doesn’t matter how much he does to All-Might anymore who has already lost almost everything in his life. Deku is in IMMENSE danger but is living HIS dream. And one way or another, DEKU will one day be the one AFO must fear. That’s the thing about these all powerful struggles. We know only the main protagonist can beat the main antagonist. But the OPPOSITE is true too. And we are all our own protagonist of our stories.
And then the NEXT lid gets blown off. Bakugo was ALWAYS going to find out about Deku having All-Might’s power. The timing, the confrontations he witnessed, the POWER ITSELF. This movement of energy and accomplishment that Bakugo has been SO threatened by. He’s at long last been given the puzzle pieces. Bakugo has come across not just a giant secret but a world encompassing cataclysmic NIGHTMARE. Deku himself isn’t fully in this nightmare just yet but it’s ABSOLUTELY hurdling his direction. Although AFO doesn’t seem to have told anyone he KNOWS Izuku Midoriya is the 9th wielder. Deku is only TEMPORARILY safe. Bakugo stepping into this is TERRIFYING. Bakugo is in his OWN nightmare even if it’s just not even comparable. It’s like he’s been circling the abyss. His own worldviews from the beginning have been shattered and now he’s looking into it. And Deku IN THIS position has nothing he can do but open the floodgates. No point in denying what HE gave Bakugo in Season 1.
I don’t think it even needs justifying. This episode is nothing short of outstanding. And next time….whooof. We’ve been waiting for this one.
Man, it's crazy how good this episode is when you realize that it's literally just TALKING.
This entire episode is mainly composed of three long speeches/conversations, with the stuff in between the layers, and all of them are great. The writing of this show really doesn't get enough credit.
@@HaydrogenBomb These characters genuinely feel like people. Sometimes the story has its shortcomings if it’s not your preference, (it happens to be mine) but when you go through that effort just to have these characters do nothing but interact, it helps them BE these real people. If you want to be engaged in these characters efforts, you need to slow down and let them just be themselves with no strings on them. It’s why I’m fond of the series I am. And it’s ordinarily when they do THIS.
Next time I’m going to drop the analytical hammer I’ve been waiting to drop for a WHILE. Because the layers of THAT episode are THROUGH THE ROOF.

I do disagree on one point you made about the test. "These 100 weren’t just lucky to pass. There’s no real way for that to happen considering the massive skill levels on the field." There definitely was an element of luck. Think of the hundred people Yoarashi took out at once. They walked up to a bade matchup, and didn't get a chance to escape. It looked to me like he was keeping them trapped with his wind while he stole their balls and struck them down. Yes, windy boy rightfully won that matchup, but that doesn't mean that some of them were not better than some of the 100 who passed. Some of them could have been better than say Hagakure or Ojiro, but they never got a chance to show it since they were taken down in one big move really early on.
That just means that the test matches with reality, where sometimes you get unlucky with your matchup and don't have a chance to escape, but luck definitely played a factor. It would be like any decently strong villain turning a corner into All Might. They might be better than 95% of all other villians, and would have stood a chance against any other hero, but they were unlucky enough to wind up facing off against the Number 1.
@@JDP5127 yes there is the luck of the matchup advantage I can’t deny that. That’s a good interpretation. I’m more thinking about situations like Todoroki with the ninja school. They were BUILT to face him but Todoroki outplayed all 10 of them at a disadvantage. I wouldn’t call that lucky, I call that Todoroki outplayed them with greater skill. Same goes for Momo’s circumstances. Most of Class A got out because they outplayed their opponents specifically looking for them. But situations like Inasa Yoarashi basically having NO counters is unlucky for the 120 he defeated. No one had an answer. Yes the worn out people were unlucky to come across Yo Shindo and crew who were looking for the exhausted. It is more of a factor than I gave it credit.
I gotta say, All Might hugging Bakugo just goes to show how he’s honestly still worthy of his title despite being retired. He’s not just a good hero, but a good person.

I actually physically cheered when it was revealed Bakugo failed. The Bakusimps can claim he's actually a great guy all they want but his actions paint him as prime grade jerkass.
Unfortunately the satisfaction was ruined when Deku gave into his stockholm syndrome and allowed Bakujerk to nearly get him expelled.

I really hope you are kidding. This show has some of the worst writing I have ever seen. The author repeatedly breaks his own rules on how quirks work, (just as one example, if bakugo's quirk is to detonate the nitroglycerin sweat on his palms, then by definition he cannot launch projectile blasts like his "ap shot" both as a beam and as small pellets. Both are direct violations of how his quirk was stated to work at the beginning of the series.) and the dialogue is frequently below average.
And don't even get me started on the extremely one sided fights that drag on for no reason (again, bakugo as an example, he could have beaten ochaco in lless than ten seconds whenever he wanted by blasting her out of the ring without much challenge and they made it an entire episode as though she ever had a chance.) This show has highlights and "hype" moments, but neither of those are indicative of good writing.
