I am from Xi'an, China, Xi'an Concert Hall is going to perform Leonard Bernstein's operetta this late August, they are having a guided class now in the concert hall, and they've just played this video! I really appreciate this video, it's fantastic, being able to summarize the plot of Voltaire's Candide and expressing it clearly must have been difficult, I don't usually leave comments but this time I've got to! Thank you for making this series! I will check other videos later! :)
I remember reading it in school twice and I never properly understood the criticism (like why even bother making 11 year olds read this?) nearly twenty years later, it feels like my brain is finally ready to see the parallels with todays society and the meaning this work actually carries. You inspired me to read it for a third time! Haha
