Albert Collins and Johnny were contemporaries. Johnny “Guitar” Watson is one of the greats. You have to look at the traditional blues from his early career along with his synth-based funk. (He also mentored Etta James on how to be a touring musician and how to sing ballads.)
Johnny Guitar Watson is THE MAN. Out of all the soul, funk, blues, and rock music my mom played for me as a child, this guy was always my favorite. So much swagger.
This was GREAT!!! I love Johnny "Guitar Watson! He not only made great funk, but he had a good time playing! He was a very happy soul! Rest In Peace...
Watson had a unique Texas guitar picking style which he mixed with Gatemouth Brown and Wes Montgomery. Besides that Watson also played bass, keyboard, sax and produced many of his own stuff. He was the bomb period. Seen him many times.
This isn't even remotely related to this song, but.... I just discovered this while flitting like alice around the rabbit holes of youtube, and said to myself, has anyone reacted to this? *Jeff Daniels* never ceases to amaze me with his talent. This is a 15min segment of Jeff on Kelly Clarkson's show. Even if You choose not to do a, react short, to it.. You should really check it out on Your own. ruclips.net/video/ZIXctwl11kI/видео.htmlsi=swhw8QQEeOmit4VV
And he'd been doing it for 30 years at this point! Compare him to other guys that invented rock guitar with him in the 50s. What is Chuck Berry doing in 1980? Parodying himself. What is Ike Turner doing in 1980? ...don't answer that.
Michael, have you done a reacts video to moe. ? I would check out Recreational Chemistry, Timmy Tucker, George, McBain, Meat, any of those please and thank you!
Hey Michael- I've followed your page for a long time and love your videos. This is my first comment so please excuse if this isn't the right place to post this, but I would love to get your take on CCR's "Green River", specifically the licks he plays in this version: ruclips.net/video/yIEDZtKdCes/видео.htmlsi=cb1iNUumzqyKnLio. Thanks for your videos, I especially loved your "If This Is It" Huey Lewis episode. Awesome!!

Me too. loved that kind of music!
I discovered Johnny because Zappa was such a big fan of! Just loved him right away!
Johnny was the main influence for Zappa's phrasing and picking technique. Gotta love it when the student becomes the master.
Still laughing at that intro! 😂 The funk is always nice, and Johnny Guitar Watson always delivers!! Thanks for another great episode ❤

Johnny Guitar Watson was one of the main influences which made Frank Zappa want to learn to play guitar and music.
Proof that charisma can get you through any amount of slop.
