Awesome 👏 They look awesome when used in home decor! The stiffer fabrics take the folds really nice. Would love to see the project! Tag 🏷 me in the photo.
Thank you for your kind words! Now, onto the fabric dilemma... Remember, it's always better to have a little extra fabric than not enough. You never know when you might want to add some pockets or a fancy bow!
You have a true gift for teaching. That was clear and consise and as easy to follow/understand as any tutorial I’ve watched or read through. Thank you for taking the time to share your skill and knowledge, it was exactly what I needed to see to get the job done.
What an amazing tutorial! I have never tried this, and need to finish a project today. Now I can conceptualize the process and get it done! Thanks for the video!
@@SewAnastasia I am planning to alternate ties and complimentary fabric strips all the way around. I was up all night trying to figure out the math! Ahhhhhh! LOL 😂
This was very helpful, thank you! If I wanted my box pleat to be of one fabric and the hidden pleat of another, would the main fabric be every 3rd panel? (Sorry if I asked that in a confusing way!)
thank you for the MOST clear, concise description of box pleats! do you have any idea of the yardage I would need for a gal about a size 6-8? Since I would be doing this without a pattern, I was just curious! thanks!
thank you. It depends how big you want the top of the pleat and how much underlay you want on it. On this sample it took 6 inches of fabric for every 2 inches. So if you follow this pleat size you would need 84 inches for 28 inch waist. Thank you for watching.
This might be a nightmare idea, but it might be a cool one if it works. I might find some scrap fabric and play with the idea. Take a 3-5 tier gathered Prairie skirt, but do it in box pleats. Something like Waist measurement #/1st tier Hem Circ #, 2nd tier would them be matched and box pleated into 1, repeat for all tiers, with the hem circ flaring out slightly with each, and waist/top matching previous hem circumference. Interesting concept at the very least.
I have 3 mtr of fabric and want it all pleated, for a 21inch waist. This is an overskirt, so am gonna cover only up to 19inch, instead of the 21inch. Is it even possible to use all the fabric? Since i want it puffy?
How much extra fabric is used up beyond the original length I am trying to cover? It’s for a crib skirt and I am looking at 27.5” before the pleats so how long should I allow for fabric length to include the pleats?
Hi! Great video. I don’t know if you can provide this answer, but I’m trying to figure out fabric yardage to do a skirt for a church pew. Do you happen to know how much yardage to add for the 2 inch box pleat? Thanks much!
It appears that there are three layers of fabric once the box pleat is completed. If I want a skirt with a 30" waist, then I'm calculating I need 90" of fabric before pleating. This 90" of course would not include seam allowances, but just the length of fabric needed for the pleats. Am I calculating correctly?
The same way you are going to sew it on another hem but you will need to iron the creases into it if you want the pleated look at your hem. I hope that helps. Thank you for watching.
How do you make a dress with pleats at the bottom? Short dress, mid thigh. It's for a cosplay. I have to do the dress free hand which is fine but I'm not sure how to make a pattern for pleats. It's not something I've ever done before.
To add pleats at the bottom it is just one long rectangle that you are pleating up and then attaching. If you do not want the top pleated then you have to have two separate pieces. One for the skirt and one for the pleats at the hem.
What do you want me to say waist measurement? The fabric you are using can be any width you would like. You can also sew pieces of fabric together if you want to make a longer length of box pleats. Hope this helped. Thank you for watching.
It really depends on how big the pleats are that you are making along with how they are spaced out. If you where a 26 inch waist, you want to 1st figure out how many pleats you need.... so how wide are they? 2inches? 3 inches? then you know how many pleats you need.... then you need to times that number with how big your underlay is. Thats the fabric under the pleat. then you know how much fabric you need. Hope that helped. Thank you for watching.
Your box pleats are lovely. Thank you.

Really clear instruction on the technique. Thank you. Now I just need to figure out how much fabric I'll need for a skirt.
How do we determine how much fabric to use to make a box pleat skirt. Excellent comment ritaadler
Measure your waist and use three times the waist size for pleating 😊
Thank you for your kind words! Now, onto the fabric dilemma... Remember, it's always better to have a little extra fabric than not enough. You never know when you might want to add some pockets or a fancy bow!
Waist measurement x 3 + seam allowance

Your length divided by 2 then times 6.

yes that seems correct.
So for smaller box pleats- say 1/2", you would just measure 1/2" increments instead of the 2" increments, correct?
yeah you can totally do that!
How would horsehair braid be sewn on this type of pleat?
The same way you are going to sew it on another hem but you will need to iron the creases into it if you want the pleated look at your hem. I hope that helps. Thank you for watching.

Shoukd I hem first before doing the pleats? I’m going to make a lamp shade
Yes hem first
Im confused is it every third pleat you make a mark in the middle
How did you see the bottom?
You can hem it however you like. Blind hem, rolled hem, singled folded hem, bias tape etc.

I should like to add that it's all one piece.

How to fit the waistline like 24"
It depends on how big your pleats are for how much fabric you will need.
Can u say waist measurement and how wide is the fabric
