    It's a decent unit, but I've had to replace them twice over 5 years. First one ran out of refrigerant after two years (1 summer use) , so I got sent a replacement unit by keystone. The next one lasted 3 years (missed the second summer , and had been used for the remaining 2 summers) before the compressor went psycho and randomly turned on (without the fan) and promptly overheated and burnt itself out. The Hygrometer was also off by about 7-10%. Couldn't even turn the unit off, wouldn't respond to any controls and had to be unplugged. Too bad because it did a really good job too.

    UnderStructureRepair.com we do everything in crawlspaces in Upper East Tennessee. We use this unit repeatedly. We DO NOT use the one with the pump. We remove the wheels, build a small, level platform about 20" high and level (using sand below) . We drain it down into a little Giant condensate pump, and take the water outside or tie into the condensate drain that might already be in place. We give a three year warranty without buying the extended warranty. We use this unit when the crawlspace has no insulation or we are removing the insulation and the crawlspace is between 600-1200 square feet. Otherwise, we use our commercial unit (Moisture Medic). We have NEVER lost a dehumidifier in 11 years. Vandals busted one and UPS busted one, but otherwise, the units are solid as a rock. I'm putting this very unit under a condo in Kingsport, TN next week. It's 800 square feet and 40" tall. It will be clean with a 12 mil white polyethylene liner. So, whoever goes in to wash the filter won't even get their knees dirty. Absolutely Great Unit.

    This was what I needed to determine which dehumidifier to purchase. I purchased mine at Wal Mart, opened a Credit Card for the $25 off over $100 purchase (of course paid in full)..
    I love it, no more condensation on my windows.
    I am on the hunt to see if you review anything else.

    Ive still have this model its 8 years old and have been very happy with it. Its in my basement and I set the timer for 8 hrs, I only run it in the summer. The only thing I would change on it is that the drainage tube in the back should not be right above where the power cord comes out. I have a hose hooked up to the back to drain directly into my floor drain. If you dont tighten the hose, water will leak onto that power cord. I dont think that is safe.

    You could've shown every aspect of the dehumidifier. The continuous drain setup was helpful but an unboxing and then in operation on every setting would be really helpful. I am having trouble with the continuous drain setup. Thanks.

    Which has the best performance over all, is the most energy efficient, most quietest with lowest noise output, and has the most features like auto-defrost, timer, multiple fan speeds, external viewing slot of the water bin level, 3 way moisture removal such as pump or hose, washable filters, has auto restart, best moisture removal rate. I am trying to compare between the Frididaire FAD704DWD or SPT SD72PE or the General Electric ADEL 70LT. Also which onces use aluminum coils. My Danby DDR606 coil was rusting right through. The coil in front of the air filter at the very back. It was dripping rust into the water tank months into buying it. I told Danby but they didn't care and never budged a finger on it.

    Have to say that I have been very happy with this unit so far, and a great value for the price. Thanks for the review. One question, if you operate the unit on continuous mode, I cannot seem to adjust the target humidity setting. I am only able to adjust up or down if I disengage continuous function, set the humidity and then turn it back on. I just wanted to make sure I am operating it appropriately. Thanks!

      +Jonathan Puhl It sounds as if everything is working exactly as it should. If you set the humidity manually the dehumidifier will cycle off when it senses that that the desired humidity level has been reached. If you set the dehumidifier to continuous mode it will run continuously and won't cycle off at any humidity level. It makes sense then that you can't set a desired humidity level manually when the dehumidifier is set to continuous mode.

    Inside the collection bucket, on the left there is a plastic piece (I finally realized I had to remove the Styrofoam from inside this piece) that swivels up and down...hangs inside the collection bucket. It has stamped on the top of this piece, "Do Not Remove". What is the purpose of this piece? Nothing is shown or mentioned in this video or the manual that came with the Model KSTAD50B Keystone 50 Pint Dehumidifier.

    • @EricReitz
      @EricReitz 9 лет назад

      That is the shut off float, that is so the bucket does not over flow. Once it's full it will shut off the unit. The styrofoam floats and is the primary part of the function. If you remove that you might have a mess on the floor.

    • @slumberlust
      @slumberlust 9 лет назад

      Eric Reitz I've noticed that mine shuts off when the water is at the very very top of the bin. This makes it neigh impossible to remove without spilling on the way to emptying. Can you adjust when it shuts off via the float?

    • @genecundel4793
      @genecundel4793 9 лет назад

      Absolutely do not remove the small piece of Styrofoam inside the inverted plastic cup attached to the water collection tank. It is a necessary component of the float mechanism which turns the unit off when the water reaches a set point avoiding the condensate water from overflowing.

    • @genecundel4793
      @genecundel4793 9 лет назад

      The purpose, sorry, forgot to mention that the Styrofoam adds additional buoyancy to this float design.

      +Mary Gabriel Thank you...I too was looking everywhere in the manual for this information. Was very confusing since it was packed in styrofoam. Definitely needs better information in the manual or on the sticker, explaining this. Thank you Mary for asking the question. ;)

    I did think it was okay - mine was very loud. I bought it 2 years ago and only need to use it here in NJ during the Spring & Summer. Cleaned it all up at the end of Summer. Plugged it in last week and it seemed to be okay - checked to see how much water collected after a day or so. Very little in the tub. I turned down the level because basement did feel "dry". Read thru How to sites on how to repair, or just make sure nothing was out of the ordinary. Ambient temp was/is okay filter had been washed but checked it again - checked for clean coils -okay. Plugged in again and got the dreaded "EC" Display. 'Unit malfunction' - arghhhhhh

    Great review...Very informative. I am just having a problem with getting a sense of scale in the video. Can it really be placed on a table for everyday use, as shown - or is it too large/heavy? (I wonder if I can put it up on something like a sturdy stool, and place the drain hose in the bathtub?) I can see hands in the shot sometimes, but I'm still not confident about judging size. I'm trying to figure out if it would be "too large" for my bathroom, or living room, if I wheeled it in there. I would suggest putting dehumidifiers that you review on the floor (for opening shots) next to someone wearing sneakers...and perhaps put a baseball on the floor or a basketball so people can visualize size. Thanks again for the review!

    • @dehumidifierguide
      @dehumidifierguide  9 лет назад +1

      Kathryn Davidson Thank you for the excellent suggestions. We will definitely take them into account for future videos. The KSTAD70B is definitely "small" enough to be put up on a table (probably not a stool), however, it is quite heavy. Most of the 70 pint dehumidifiers we tested, including this one, are around 40 to 50 pounds. If you plan on moving your dehumidifier around a lot and/or plan on putting it up on a stool or table we would suggest a smaller 30 pint unit. Not only is a 30 pint unit smaller, but it is also lighter (most are around 30 pounds). The latest 30 pint dehumidifier from Frigidaire is an excellent choice.

    Just curious where you can buy the drain plug adapter for the back? I am tired of emptying the dehumidifier every day. In the owners manual it shows a drain plug adapter however there wasn't one included when you buy the humidifier. I can't believe you didn't even cover that in your review. You left one of the most important demands people need out of your review.

    It makes no sense that this unit comes in 4th when dehumidifying from 90 to 40% (a large drop of 50%), but stumbles on a smaller drop of 30% (80 to 50%) in your tests. How is this possible? Also, some of your charts compare 10 units and others only compare 5 models. This doesn't paint an apples to apples comparison. You then skimp over a bunch of very important issues and refer us to a web site. I'm not sure you aren't biased, but it seemed like a good review.

    Just got my Keystone dehumidifier. What can I expect if I place it on the first floor (1025sf) of my two story home? Will it regulate humidity on both floors? I guess my question is "what size room will this machine efficiently control humidity?"

    • @dehumidifierguide
      @dehumidifierguide  10 лет назад +1

      Joseph Emmi A 70 pint dehumidifier such as this Keystone should be more than adequate for an approximately 1000 square foot home. Most 70 pint units are rated by the manufacturer to be sufficient for 3000+ square feet. Just make sure that you have good airflow between the two stories of your home and between rooms. You can also move the dehumidifier between different stories and/or rooms if you find one story is being dehumidified more quickly than another. In any case, this unit should be more than adequate for your particular application.

      Dehumidifier Buyer's Guide Many thanks for the info! Only annoyance is cumbersome water removal process - flimsy bucket. Any tips for easier water removal?

    • @dehumidifierguide
      @dehumidifierguide  10 лет назад

      Joseph Emmi No problem at all. You have two options if you don't want to constantly have to remove, empty and replace the unit's condensate collection bucket. #1 - you could set up the unit for gravity drainage. At the end of our video review above you can see how to set it up. Just connect a standard garden hose to the back of the dehumidifier after installing the included adapter and make sure that it empties to a location lower than where it exits from the dehumidifier. Note that this is going to be hard to do unless you have a floor drain in your home. #2 - you can buy what is called a "condensate pump". You can easily find it for sale online or at your local home improvement store. You'll have to set things up exactly the same as you did for gravity drainage. This time, however, you'll set up the condensate pump in the middle of the drainage system. What I mean by this is that you'll connect a drain hose to the back of the dehumidifier as before, but this time the drain hose will connect to the condensate pump. Another hose will then be connected to the condensate pump and out of this hose the collected condensate (water) will exit. A condensate pump is about $40 so it is an added cost. However, it will really save you a lot of time and energy as you'll be able to pump the collected condensate up into a tub or a sink or even outside depending on where you place the dehumidifier in your home.

    we just purchased the 70C model. When it runs on a continuous mode it shows 30% RH on the display, when we actually have 50% RH. Once we switched to comfort mode, it stopped running and displayed 48% humidity level. Is this normal or a faulty hygrometer?

    I dropped the collector tank and the float came out. Reconnected it with the male pin on the float into the opening on the collector. Can't figure out, however how to make the other side stay in place. Can't find the shroud or whatever that held it loosely in place to swing. So now the machine always thinks that the tank is full and therefore won't run. Any help?

    Hi there, we've been using this unit for the past 1.5+ years on continuous draining coupled with a condensate pump. About a month ago I discovered that the unit was off with its bucket full of water. It seemed the condensate pump had an issue, so I bought a new replacement, hooked it up, and had the unit going again on continuous. The unit is still draining into the condensate, but it is now also draining into its bucket, which fills up with water approximately once a day. Any idea what could be causing this? I wonder if there should be a plug for the hole in the ceiling of the bucket chamber to prevent leakage into the bucket? The manual does not seem to have a parts list or provide any insight into this. Thank you in advance for your help!

      Hi, I was wondering how you made out with this, since I just had this happen today. Like you, I ran 1.5 years on continuous drain with no problem, and then today mysteriously the bucket filled up! Tomorrow I am going to try to see if the hose is plugged, or if an adapter fell off inside, but I decided to check for videos and saw your comment and figured I'd ask what you found out.

    • @dehumidifierguide
      @dehumidifierguide  9 лет назад

      +Stephen Mollett An adapter should have been included when you purchased the dehumidifier. You will need to install this adapter before you can drain the dehumidifier using gravity. While we don't recommend this particular model if gravity drainage is important to you, it still should function properly without issue if you install the drainage adapter correctly.
