Forty years old these songs are and setting the foundation for a wonderful year in 1984. I'm surprised 'This Charming Man' wasn't a huge hit as it's very well known. Toyah's most underrated song - very Kate Bush-esque. Should have been a huge hit. I think it's the best song and my favourite on this list. To our non-Brits, Roland Rat (or as my sister called it Poison Rat 🤣) was a childrens TV puppet. Eartha Kitt had an obsession with men didn't she? 😉 Can't blame her.....they're great...most of the time lol. Many classic songs and forgotten gems on here and thank you Francis 👍
Toyah is my #1, but I also love Culture Club (just missing out on the gold) with a beautiful touching ballad. One of their best songs. Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Ozzy Osbourne, UB40, Slade (X3), ABBA, Tina Turner, Lynryd Skynyrd, Billy Joel, Genesis, The Smiths, Michael Jackson and my favourite Christmas song by John Lennon (that's third). Many great songs.

Some songs like the ones at minute 3:50 , 3:53 , 7:50 and 9:46 perfectly mix the last remnants of disco music (70's) with the rhythms and synthesizers that dominated the 80's. 😮

Paul McCartney’s 1979 Christmas song was far more 80’s than his 1983 Christmas song.

Along with a host of interesting reissues and an eclectic bunch of novelty songs among the lesser hits, the songs I was waiting for and expecting all came up except for Owner of a Lonely Heart by Yes,so I assume that that was (just) already in the charts by the end of October. I seem to remember that it shot in at number 42,broke into the Top 40 at 37 but then stalled just inside the Top 30 when I was hoping to see it go higher than that.

Ou sinon c'est tiré de l'album éponyme.

„Many rivers to cross” is probably the most 80’s sounding song of UB40. And the least annoying one too 😂
