Stewart, you need to update your US links for your kit because some of them are no longer available or "can't be found". Loved the Lady Bug wrangling, they are such sweet little bugs!
i do like that you point out things thats also been wrong in your vids mate its what makes this channel my absolute favorite as your honest with it and not just hides it like plenty of others do. im also looking forward to seeing you use more live animals like the ladybird but hopefully others as well as in wild animals so go out to hunt mate =)
I got the little tripod with alligator clip that you use. They charge a lot for Airmail or Courier so I requested snail mail. It cost almost nothing and arrived in a week. The bingo clips were too light and fell over. I had foreign currency and stuck coins on the bottom for added weight. All is good! Still trying to get a water drop to stay on a dandelion seed! Lots of fun, thanks!
Excellent tutorial Stewart, I tried the water droplet on the dandelion clock and will try this too. I got a lot of reflections in the droplet of things in the room which spoiled it a bit. Need more practise.
If you are still using the 80D and YonGNuo Flashes and triggers, try going in your menu and disabling "Silent LV Shoot". This should solve your triggering problem! (works on mine anyhow)
@@StewartWoodArt its worked on the 60d, 7d, 80d so guessing it works on yours. I have no idea what canon is thinking but took me awhile to figure it out.
Terrific, Stewart!!! I have Lady Birds (we call them Lady Bugs here in the states) that slip into my house mostly in cooler weather. I have actually found that a small drop of water attracts them and they are relatively still while drinking. I don't know if that would help or hinder your shots but it might be something to try. A tiny drop with your syringe could keep one stable and in the right place as YOU move around a bit. Thanks for these tips!!!!
Not sure on your specific camera, but on most Canon cameras, if you "Disable" the "Silent LV Shoot." then the flash will fire in live view. This enables my YN560 (Mk1) and the Canon 580ex II flashes to fire in live view - so I doubt upgrading your flash will help you. Hope that helps, Kind regards, Mark
Unfortunately neither the 650d or the 750d have the option to turn off silent shoot. Canon flashes are coded to turn it off in these cameras but they're extortionate. Once again canon stick it to you for using 3rd party accessories
I've quickly become a big fan of your channel Stewart, a local lad too 😉I had a go at the seed with a water drop on it last week. That's when I realised how much the water drop would show every detail surrounding it in the surface reflection. Two hours of fun that I learnt a lot from though so I'm happy enough. I'll have to post one on your Facebook page. Don't laugh though 😆
That was good! A split second before you said "I like the blue one" (background), I said exactly the same thing! LOL. Another great video Stewart, my good man!
Hi Stuart, I love the pace and content of your excellent videos. Thank you. I followed the link for the tripod specimin holder, which came up in amazon but on the American site, is it available in the uk? And if so could you recommend the company so I can purchase one. Thanks
Another great video! (Question, you use different speed lights: one is an expensive one which sticks to the lens and the cheaper one you used in this video It is it worth to invest the 300 USD in an expensive one?)
It all depends on what you want out of your photography, there is not one light solution for all situations. That's why I keep changing. I still love my twin macro flash but sometimes the reflections from a single flash is better.
Hi Stewart, just to pick up on you flash not working in live view? Just tried mine with Canon 750d & 80d and had no problems with a neewer speed lights or my apeman speed light and I tried in slave mode and by using triggers.. So not sure why yours don't work? Great video again keep it going 👍
Hi, and thanks again for the video - have found using HSS re insects can be useful, using a sidelight as well means lower power rate = faster refresh sometimes allowing continuous shooting mode, you do power through the frames and a lot of editing ensues tho :-)
Candid and useful vid, Stewart - cool image. Might have been somewhat easier if the set-up holder had been placed on a small rotating platform so you could manipulate the composition to keep up with your star performer. In a prior life you must have been a flea circus manager😁. Do you have the background cards in a larger (8x10) size?
I've been a subscriber since a few weeks now and I am loving the videos! Please keep them up! I would like to add one thing. When you are posting the photo you took with the information, could you provide us information about the Manual flash power too? Thank you!
@@StewartWoodArt I was checking the properties of my own pictures with manual flash and it doesn't say the power, that could be hard to remember.. You could however say before taking the shot what the power is of your flash (not every picture ofcourse but when you change the power)
Pretty cool! That's the type of photography I'm used to. Can be frustrating but so rewarding with a killer shot. Love that photo at the end there, really nice. I'm not a fan of those diffusers though, you need some space between the diffuser and flash to reduce the glare (I have one similar). I have better luck aiming the speedlight just over the top of the insect. Still gets good light but no flash hot spots. Very good video, I have subscribed. :))
