Leave it to Larian for being so real. The big reason why I didn’t watch TGA live this year was because while it’s been an overall fantastic year for video games, for the gaming industry, it’s been about how 2024 has felt for a lot of people, that is to say, craptastic. With so many layoffs and dissolving of dev teams as there’s been not to mention the threat of AI replacing jobs (which BTW, everyone please take a moment to point and laugh at Adobe for trying to do this and watching their stocks seriously tank), it feels very hollow to just celebrate the industry when the industry has been absolutely tyrannical towards the people who work in it. And then they went and called all that out this year. Granted, acknowledgement is only the first step of many that need to be taken to fixing this problem, but it’s an important step all the same. Also can’t forget Statler and Waldorf being the best Muppets has been on TGA (the Kojima jab alone solidifies that) and the return of Clover Studio as Clovers bringing Ōkami back alongside them. What a redemption arc for Capcom.

I freaking teared up when Okami Sequel dropped. I knew it'd be Okami from the wolf paw silhouette, but I was expecting Okamiden ports or something. And then it's a sequel and Kamiya's making it and oh my god my dream has come true after all these years. Honestly never been happier and more excited for a game, and there's stuff that excited me a ton over the years. This is like, beyond my wildest dreams type of thing, and I'm not ready for it. I know, I know "what's the big deal, it's just wolf Zelda". Ok, it's wolf Zelda, and it's freaking BEAUTIFUL! There. That's why I freaking love Okami and can't wait for this sequel. Oh, and Astro Bot winning GOTY was absolutely deserved. Was really hoping we wouldn't actually get a DLC winning GAME of the year, even though I don't really care much for these awards anyway (their GOTY very rarely aligns with my personal GOTY, and I put more value on my own opinions). It was just nice to see it align again, that's all. It made me smile. Really good show this year.
It really is insane how Astro Bot went from a game that wasn't even on my radar a few months ago to becoming one of my favorite games in such a short time. I'm so hyped it won GOTY
You said that this was the first time Best OST was given a full spotlight as a category, but that isn’t the case. They gave it a full spotlight in 2022 when _God of War Ragnarok_ won over XC3. That was when they brought Bear McCreary as a guest performer.
I still hold that the _only_ reason God of War won over XC3 was because of recency bias. IIRC it released 9 days before the deadline to qualify for the awards
Helldivers 2 never died, it just went through a slow period for a couple of months, even then its player count still remained pretty high, and the last few updates have caused the player count skyrocket once again
@legitbetterthanvinny9725 it still never died, and the main reason player numbers decreased for a while was due to poor balancing decisions from Arrowhead, rather than interference from Sony, but they quickly sorted that out and player numbers were rising again well before this update
@@Azure_Iolite after the DSS it was beginning to stagnate again, before Omens of Tyranny plaercount was around 16-18k, lowest since the 60 day plan. we had several peaks after the PSN situation at early June with the first big good patch, EoF although that was short lived, 60 day plan parts 1 and 2, and Liberty Day.
@@legitbetterthanvinny9725 16-18k players is still isn't low enough for it to be considered "dead" and is still enough for a live service to sustain itself, like I said, things only slowed down for a bit, again, it never actually died, in fact it's pretty common for live service games to reach low points like that every now and then, continously updating a game with new content and keeping things fresh is extremely tough, it's impossible for a dev team to always be on top of things, periods where things begin to stagnate and player numbers decrease are common for these kinds of games
The announcement of an Okami sequel is still surreal to me! Its been over a decade since Okamiden and almost two decades since Okami (2006) It's wonderful to see the return after so so long. I was recently talking with someone who just finished Okami this about how lovely the games are and ho great it would be if they made more. But neither of us expected it to happen, I was blown away!

This year’s TGA was amazing! Definitely a good one to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the show! Highlights were Ninja Gaiden, Clive in Tekken, VF6, Elden Ring Co-Op game, Project Century, Onimusha, and the Okami Sequel!
Honestly the product placement in the Intergalactic trailer kinda makes sense given that its trying to fit that specific 1980s movie vibe, and product placement was ALL OVER those.
So fun fact about the "literal tree hugging" segment, where I live my great grandparents had a thing where they kept planting trees because we had done a lot of deforestation in our area to build buildings, so they wanted to help the forest grow back Skip a hundred years-ish and we are overgrown with trees to the point where it is almost an issue. Deforestation bad, but regrowing haphazardly also bad

So, was Astro Bot actually worthy of the GOTY win? Cuz someone in a Discord server I'm in said "I guess that's another reason not to take [TGA] seriously", and I haven't seen gameplay of it yet
People on internet are happy that elden ring DLC did not win. Its such stupid putting DLC into one of nominations of GOTY. People were also more happy that it was astro bot, since it was finally one of those game people wanted for long time, as for many people it reminds them games from decades ago with classic platformer.
I've heard nothing but high praises for this game, online and IRL. Some people think only their favourite games deserve to win but forget other games also have done well throughout the year.
As a gamer who is mostly interested in playing Sci-Fi games, I'm incredibly excited for this game. I must admit, I've never bought a Naughty Dog game before, even though I know they're all fantastic. They just haven't been my thing-until now. I can't wait to see more about Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
While I think astro bot and metaphor were great I feel like it is so unfair for the FF7 devs because the only recognition it got is basically "square has good music" when the game basically reinvented the formula for the next FF games. Also if FF7 had the level of quality of metaphor for example (number of voice acting, graphics, size) it would get absolutely shit on, metaphor is persona with fantasy setting (story was great don't get me wrong) the "standard" for FF is infinitely higher than other games besides wukong here for GOTY. While it didn't have to absolutely win GOTY just winning the soundtrack feels so unfair for the amount of quality work put into rebirth.
Let us not forget that it's not a new game per se, but a remake. It brought new features and some changes but the basis is still the same from the game from the 90s. I doubt they only took into account the quality of a game but other stuff. I hope it manages to win big once the final installment comes out tho.
Rebirth was never gonna win for the same reason as Tears of the Kingdom, God of War Ragnarok, Spiderman 2, and Shadow of the Erdtree. It's just more of the same.

@@syke2b Any change feels substantial when you're a long time fan of a series. I felt the same way about TotK. But as someone who's only occasionally dabbled in Final Fantasy, Rebirth just felt like a more bloated Remake.

Astrobot is Playstation making a Nintendo game. and they win so many awards for it. Meanwhile, Nintendo gets pretty much nothing. As usual. Because graphics are everything. Nintendo quality with Sony graphics is why Astrobot is a legitimately good and fun game. One that isn't driven by greed. One that puts fun and the player first. How many games like that have existed before? And how many of that number were from Nintendo? Even the developers had to admit they were able to make such a great game because of their love for.....NINTENDO GAMES!!!! Where are the awards for them? The one category that usually would be a guaranteed Nintendo win, the one where 3 of the 5 nominees were Nintendo games, was still given to Astrobot. Because it was such a shock to the industry that Playstation had something comparable to Nintendo's better days.i know that nintendo can be greedy too and that they have their own whole list of problems, but it still just seems unfair to someone like me who only owns a Nintendo console. How can you celebrate gaming as a whole without one of the original companies that had set the standards we see so often to day?

Helldivers 2 never died, it just went through a slow period for a couple of months, even then its player count still remained pretty high, and the last few updates have caused the player count skyrocket once again
Nah it got pretty bad for a little, but the past 2 weeks it’s rised again to over 100k peaks like in May, it’s amazing
@legitbetterthanvinny9725 it still never died, and the main reason player numbers decreased for a while was due to poor balancing decisions from Arrowhead, rather than interference from Sony, but they quickly sorted that out and player numbers were rising again well before this update
@@Azure_Iolite after the DSS it was beginning to stagnate again, before Omens of Tyranny plaercount was around 16-18k, lowest since the 60 day plan. we had several peaks after the PSN situation at early June with the first big good patch, EoF although that was short lived, 60 day plan parts 1 and 2, and Liberty Day.
@@legitbetterthanvinny9725 16-18k players is still isn't low enough for it to be considered "dead" and is still enough for a live service to sustain itself, like I said, things only slowed down for a bit, again, it never actually died, in fact it's pretty common for live service games to reach low points like that every now and then, continously updating a game with new content and keeping things fresh is extremely tough, it's impossible for a dev team to always be on top of things, periods where things begin to stagnate and player numbers decrease are common for these kinds of games

This year’s TGA was amazing! Definitely a good one to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the show! Highlights were Ninja Gaiden, Clive in Tekken, VF6, Elden Ring Co-Op game, Project Century, Onimusha, and the Okami Sequel!
I had my worries about this GA, but I'm glad that things actually were pretty good.
Sad to say there's not a lot of competition for a decent TGA, but at least this means they are learning.
Onimusha and okami I thought Capcom abandoned them like rockstar abandoned red dead online

Honestly the product placement in the Intergalactic trailer kinda makes sense given that its trying to fit that specific 1980s movie vibe, and product placement was ALL OVER those.

So fun fact about the "literal tree hugging" segment, where I live my great grandparents had a thing where they kept planting trees because we had done a lot of deforestation in our area to build buildings, so they wanted to help the forest grow back

So, was Astro Bot actually worthy of the GOTY win? Cuz someone in a Discord server I'm in said "I guess that's another reason not to take [TGA] seriously", and I haven't seen gameplay of it yet
People on internet are happy that elden ring DLC did not win. Its such stupid putting DLC into one of nominations of GOTY. People were also more happy that it was astro bot, since it was finally one of those game people wanted for long time, as for many people it reminds them games from decades ago with classic platformer.

As a gamer who is mostly interested in playing Sci-Fi games, I'm incredibly excited for this game. I must admit, I've never bought a Naughty Dog game before, even though I know they're all fantastic. They just haven't been my thing-until now. I can't wait to see more about Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
While I think astro bot and metaphor were great I feel like it is so unfair for the FF7 devs because the only recognition it got is basically "square has good music" when the game basically reinvented the formula for the next FF games. Also if FF7 had the level of quality of metaphor for example (number of voice acting, graphics, size) it would get absolutely shit on, metaphor is persona with fantasy setting (story was great don't get me wrong) the "standard" for FF is infinitely higher than other games besides wukong here for GOTY.
While it didn't have to absolutely win GOTY just winning the soundtrack feels so unfair for the amount of quality work put into rebirth.
Let us not forget that it's not a new game per se, but a remake. It brought new features and some changes but the basis is still the same from the game from the 90s. I doubt they only took into account the quality of a game but other stuff. I hope it manages to win big once the final installment comes out tho.
Rebirth was never gonna win for the same reason as Tears of the Kingdom, God of War Ragnarok, Spiderman 2, and Shadow of the Erdtree. It's just more of the same.

Astrobot is Playstation making a Nintendo game. and they win so many awards for it. Meanwhile, Nintendo gets pretty much nothing. As usual. Because graphics are everything. Nintendo quality with Sony graphics is why Astrobot is a legitimately good and fun game. One that isn't driven by greed. One that puts fun and the player first. How many games like that have existed before? And how many of that number were from Nintendo? Even the developers had to admit they were able to make such a great game because of their love for.....NINTENDO GAMES!!!! Where are the awards for them? The one category that usually would be a guaranteed Nintendo win, the one where 3 of the 5 nominees were Nintendo games, was still given to Astrobot. Because it was such a shock to the industry that Playstation had something comparable to Nintendo's better days.i know that nintendo can be greedy too and that they have their own whole list of problems, but it still just seems unfair to someone like me who only owns a Nintendo console. How can you celebrate gaming as a whole without one of the original companies that had set the standards we see so often to day?
