Firstly, it is done in order not to get the insides of your throat burned by vodka. When you exhale before downing a shot, it will simply warm your throat. Secondly, it comes from very old times when people would blow spells away from the alcohol drinks. You may see that some drinkers don't simply exhale, but specifically blow on their shot. This might have come even before the Rus appeared in the 9th century. It has become a part of Russian culture and people do this to this day.
There are a lot of things regarding drinking in Russia, it isn't just done to get drunk or because it's a garbage tier reddit meme, it's treated like a holiday with its own set of rules. And you also don't drink vodka without something like cucumbers, tomatoes, sausages or fish to eat, unless you specifically want to get wasted. And it isn't like we're drinking booze every day, that stereotype along with the amount of alcohol we have per year has long gone, the British and Lithuanians drink waaaaaay more.

I've always been a fan of the animations in first person shooters and I love the animations in EFT a lot. They are a perfect combination of being fluid at times while at other points being slow. Seeing the characters actually do thing like open up cans of food or sodas, unscrew the top of water bottles or even tear open MREs is such a nice touch that most other games would just skip entirely.
