    I just experienced this. It's pretty cool seeing how everything evolved during the series when going immediately from 1 to 2 to 3. It's funny too.. while the combat feels better overall once you get to 3 I sometimes find myself missing encounters, mechanics, and abilities from 1 and 2. At any rate.. damn this is such a great series of games.

    I went into this game blind back on PS3 and I learned as I went. It’s streamlined compared to other RPG’s especially in the LE. I’m sure this will help newcomers.

    I love the "feel" of gameplay of Mass Effect 1. It's more fluid movement and less robotic feeling than 2 and 3. I do like the new abilities of 2 and 3 though, like Charge and Tactical Cloak.
    I wish they could have put those abilities into a game more like Mass Effect 1. Andromeda kind of did this, but it became so popular to hate on Andromeda, that the otherwise decent game never had a chance.
    edit: Also, going to global cooldown and using thermal clips instead of heat, were both horrible design changes imo.

    • @1Notten
      @1Notten 3 года назад +10

      As someone who played Mass Effect 1 back in the day, and played Mass Effect 2 a couple years later, I will say ME1 is stiffer. ME1 in Legendary, however is much more refined and more recently tweaked. This is why it feels "better" than ME2/ME3. Remember the ME Andromeda, the game after ME3, failed not because of combat, but story.

    • @tizodd6
      @tizodd6 3 года назад +5

      @@1Notten Honestly, ME1 has always felt smoother to me. It's not a Legendary Edition thing. 2 and 3's movements have just never felt as smooth as 1's imo.

      @@tizodd6 ME1 is best to me too. It's more of an rpg than the others. One thing I like in rpg's, is starting off weak, but ending up a powerhouse because you built your character/gear correctly. ME1 has that feeling.
      Yes, you do get stronger in 2 and 4, but you never quite reach that level of godliness. I get it though...the gaming trend moved more toward player skill over character skill.

    • @CouchGuy19
      @CouchGuy19 3 года назад +4

      I feel the opposite about global cooldowns. You can use powers way more often this way. I would much rather have 1 skill use at a time with a 3-6 second cooldown over multiple skills with a 30+ second cooldown.

    • @tizodd6

      @@ORiOh4582 To each his/her own, but imo Andromeda was far from a "bad" game. Launched with another name, and its fate would have been a lot different. People were used to Shepard's gruff, military personality, and the more serious tone of the trilogy. Andromeda was a case of different...but not worse (facial animations were fixed early on...really not a big deal in the grand scheme of things).
      People jumping on the hate bandwagon and not giving Andromeda an honest chance is what did it in.

  • @jdranetz

    Great trilogy of games got greater. ME1 has a lot of RPG elements some really like and others don't. But, in this edition, it didn't lose those RPG elements, but combat is improved enough to please shooter fans. 12 years ago, ME1 was the first RPG game I ever played. I had no idea what to expect back then. I was used to shooters like Halo. I found selecting attribute allocation cumbersome. But, it was was the futuristic shooter I was looking for. Then I got to enjoy those elements more over time, though I was annoyed at myself for the time used to just select them, upgrades to weapons, armor, etc. Until, ME2, I checked out Dragon Age Origins. I liked it, not as much as ME, but it grew on me. I know some RPG fans resented the later games for diluting those factors. It went from an RPG with shooter elements, to a shooter with RPG elements. To me ME2 was near perfect. ME3 was that way, also, to me. Action, story, dialog was more important to me than counting points and searching for upgrades and items. Oddly, both shooter fans, and RPG fans disliked the ME3 ending, but for very different reasons. RPG players hated no differences in ending, in that it seemed to ignore choices. Shooter players disliked it because after 50-80 hours of gameplay, the galaxy is pretty much left smashed to pieces and your player character is doomed one way or another. Shooter fans wanted the "Star Wars" style ending. Grandiose music, parades and the crew receiving medals for saving the galaxy. It was like in Halo Reach, where your character, for once, not Master Chief, is doomed to die fighting. I never launched that game, ever again after one play through. ME3 felt that way, I just wanted a ticker tape parade, so to speak, a pat on the back. Ending with a final sex romp scene with Shepard, Ash and Liara. As Ashley said in ME1, "Only in your dreams Shepard!". Well, dreams really could come true, can't they?

      That isn't what a nerf is. Besides that, just because some other classes can now use anything doesn't mean they will use it just as good as the soldier. The soldier is still going to be better with the shotgun, AR, and sniper, than classes like the adept or engineer.

      I actually think its quite the opposite. In Legendary edition because you can use any weapon you don't get the talent associated with the weapon, which really hurt your dps when using weapons that your character is not proficient in. This does not matter much when you are playing lower difficulties but on insanity its quite the debuff to all classes except the Soldier who has access to all weapon talent lines. This means on higher difficulty regardless of playthrough most all characters are limited to pistols and Liara becomes a walking liability since she has no weapon proficiency talent line or passive weapon damage buff. This lowered DPS means that everything takes longer to kill unless you are using your characters preferred weapon types and means that unless you are playing your character as was originally intended you will struggle with tougher fights since unlike ME2 and 3 where talent combos do massive damage, you cannot rely heavily on talent abilities to kill enemies.

    One thing I noticed that they’ve changed in ME1 is that some guns are different. In the original release, the starter assault rifle worked just the same as the best assault rifle, the numbers were just higher. But one rifle I’m using now seems to be burst fire. And the shotgun I’m using is semi auto instead of pump action. I don’t know, maybe these are glitches, but I’m hoping their not, because every gun acting like every other gun in it’s type being different was one of my biggest problems with original Mass Effect

    I still wish they’d kept the weapon cooldown from 1. I liked NOT having to “look for ammo” with my space guns. • @hunteriv4869
      @hunteriv4869 3 года назад +1

      After playing adept through 1 and then halfway through 2 over the past few days I actually disagree. While you could "spam" abilities in ME1 without a global cooldown each ability cooldown started at 60 seconds base, and even with maximum cooldown reduction and a high level character you were still looking at a fairly long cooldown compared to the uptime of the abilities, especially at early levels. I spent a *lot* more time firing guns for the first 20 levels in ME1 than as a 1-10 adept in ME2 where a 6-second cooldown is long.
      I remember hating the new cooldown mechanics when I first played through Mass Effect many years ago but after playing them back-to-back in Legendary I think I had major nostalgia glasses on for the long ME1 cooldowns. That being said, I *still* prefer the weapon cooling system of ME1 rather than the heat pack ammo of ME2 and 3, as it's super frustrating to run out of "ammo" during long fights and have to hunt for packs or the weapon outright won't fire.
