I own several "expensive" Gibsons and Fenders. I also own some budget guitars. I bought a Harley Benton a couple of months ago just to see what the hype was all about. It's a Fusion III HSH It's definitely a really nice inexpensive guitar. It's not perfect.....the pickups are adequate (I replaced the bridge pickup with a hotter Seymour Duncan. Honestly, I think both stock humbuckers on the guitar were the same). The tremolo bridge is rather limited as well. The build, fit and finish are great and the quality of the parts and materials is excellent as well. Do I prefer it over my Les Paul or Pro II Strat?? No, but it's still a really nice guitar and great bang for the buck that I enjoy playing. I'd definitely consider another one.
So thomann has gotten rid of the grover locking tuners and replaced them with some regular harley benton tuners. I really want this guitar but im afraid that it won’t stay in tune. Also the EMG pickup version costs about 100 bucks more. Does the EMG make a huge difference? Which one should I buy?
I have another HB that has regular HB tuners and it stays in tune perfectly! The EMGs sound nice, but the Roswell pickups in this bad boy have wayyyyy more bite

I bought a B stock, Harley Benton explorer about 6 years ago ( maybe longer...I forgot) anyway. It's the old style that they used to make ( like Hetfields black album Explorer but with a Floyd style bridge not tune o matic) its a solid piece of kit, I even dropped it down a flight of stairs once and it went slightly out of tune, but that was it no damage at all (lucky for me). I literally love both of my HB explorers haha I have the EX 76bk (the cheap one) and it's GREAT. Same with the 84. The 84 is fantastic. Both guitars have the "thrash" sound. I would argue the 76 sounds like real early Metallica/Megadeth with the 84 nailing that And Justice and Black Album tone and the HB Victory Plus flying V they got kinda nails the Dave tone from 98 onwards with the right EQ. @@DjentBeard there's pros and cons the pros are that, when not a B Stock, you are getting a reallllly great mod platform. The cons are the tuners and those pickups and according to some users, I did not experience this however, that sometimes there are sharp frets but like you can use painters tape and a lil bit of sandpapering/filing and that's solved. My main complaint with the R458 Multiscale was the god awful muddy pickups which, funny enough, we wired improperly but sounded BETTER wired improperly than it did with the correct wiring. Very odd. After Swapping to EMG 808s mine is fantastic and my bandmate has Fishman soapbar actives in his and it sounds real good as well. The biggest pro is the pickup cavity is perfectly sized for EMG or Fishmans unlike the DLX 8 strings which are slotted for 9 string pickups. My QBB DLX 8 is on back order so I will let you know about that in the future. sorry for the novel lol. just a lot to talk about, good and bad!

@@DjentBeard Yes, luckily, they were good about returning it, and refunding the original shipping costs. I was hoping it would've been a better guitar, but to me, you're better off buying a used model of the real thing, even if made in Indonesia, like my PRS SE.
lf you want to tell me or not, I got the HB version of the Epiphone Thunderbird Goth bass, in January, nice gig bag about $280 with shipping, to me in N.Y the City, what kills me is the shipping, about $75. I mean all the sound from an electric guitar is in the pickups and the action of strings in accordance to the magnets in the pickups. You can literally have a great sounding electric guitar without the whole guitar part - yes you won't be able to fret things but if set up right it will sound great open. So really you could buy a cheap guitar - throw whatever pickups you want in and set up the action/intonation properly (most people don't do this and blame the guitar for sounding like crap) you will have a great sounding guitar.

I can hear it on this video too, is it just a case of some guitars clang a bit? you could not use this guitar for recording because of the fret noise.... my js22 has zero fret noise no matter how hard you hit the strings. my ex84 is a noisey clanger unplugged.
I don´t know about yours but i´m currently recording a full on demo with this and the tracks are crystal clear, no buzzing whatsoever in the recordings. Can you also point out where you hear the buzzing in this video? Because there is no camera audio where i do the actual first test
@@DjentBeard 7.47 til 8.05 e and a strings. i got same problem
???
think i figured it out- its 24.5 inch scale so we get less string tension...??
@@idealmethod i´ve been looking into it and i fixed mine by adjusting the action like a micromillimeter so to speak, got no issies whatsoever now

NIce vid, Ps i've been trying to make a Metallica preset in Gojira, but never managed to get a proper sound, will you share your preset?
I think the free preset pack on my webstore has one that comes fairly close :)
@@DjentBeard thanks, i will check it out
Sounds pretty good. What was signal chain used (interface, amp, cab, mic., speakers)? Also what was the string type and gauge? Thanks for the demo.
Dry signal > interface > archetype: gojira by neural dsp
Strings are Ernie Balls slinky top, heavy bottom set 🖤
@@DjentBeard - Yep, those are the exact strings I use for my EX84. What type of speakers do you use to monitor with out of the Focusrite? Thanks for the response.
@@ShadovvV Currently i'm running the Mackie CR-X 5's, good quality for a low price
@@DjentBeard - Incidentally, I have one of the blue colored, same exact a yours. ;)) My only issue with it though is I think it sounds pretty lifeless in a full mix, but unplugged it sounds like a dream. The intonation is second to none. Any recording tips you can give me? Would be appreciated. Thanks again man.
Nice score dig the color sounds great !
I didn’t know they were making the blue color of these. It looks great. Of course it sounds and plays good. It’s a Harley Benton. Lol nice demo man. This is exactly what people buying this guitar want to hear.
I have the EMG`s version, amazing guitar for heavy tones
how did you get that color, just curious because i cant seem to find it
It´s not for sale anymore sadly. I´m pretty sure i got the very last one, and there don´t seem to be many around anymore
Would you recommend the EMG version? Also sweet playing
Yes 100%
I kept my eye out and am not disappointed haha.
Omg this thing is fucking awesome.
Def an obtainable goal 🖤
I hope you get one soon man!
@@DjentBeard me too lol its been a long while.
When I was younger I got this no name First Act electric from toys r us for xmas, worked enough to give me the love for playing till the amp plugin broke INSIDE the guitar in the weirdest way. Thing like unspooled or something. Took it to a local shop and was pronounced dead.
Been struggling and hoping ever since lmfao.
@@lildemon6816 you´ll get one sooner or later, it just takes time
@@DjentBeard indeed cx staying positive and patient ^~ ^
Does it djent? I think it is
**Proceeds to play rip and tear**
F*cking legend, you are.
I've been kinda on the fence about getting something with active pickups for a while but, this kinda makes me want one
Harley Benton guitar's are well worth buying
I love how they have more packigeing on the gig bag and not the guitar
Dude these come with EMG 81 & 60 now.
The set of pickups alone cost more than three quarters the cost of the guitar.
AND Ebony fretboard with locking tuners.
Literally buying one right now!
Let me know how you like it!!
Someone know the name of this song at 05:17 ? I heard tons of times but I can’t remember
I bought the sc custom fr emg for $466
Floyd rose 1000 and emg hot 70's stainless steel frets and locking tuners....
It's unbelievable, is it my ltd 1000...no but it cost just over 1/3 what the ltd cost and its a different animal. I've got 7 other HB'S and all are impressive
Its hard to find a nice guitar on a budget that doesnt have a bolt on neck. for $300 this thing is a steal!
I´m never buying a $1000 guitar again lmao
I literally love both of my HB explorers haha
I have the EX 76bk (the cheap one) and it's GREAT.
I personally have my guitars all in either Drop G or Drop F.
Ibanez SZ drop G
Epiphone Explorer Drop G
Harley Benton EX 76 Drop G
Harley Benton EX 84 Drop F
Harley Benton R458 Drop F
Harley Benton R458 Multiscale Drop F
Harley Benton MR Drop F
thats my guitars for when I'm on the road
Gawd damn
@@DjentBeard gotta love them djenty boiz
@@kingkosher6231 how is the multiscale btw? I´m thinking of getting one
@@DjentBeard there's pros and cons
the pros are that, when not a B Stock, you are getting a reallllly great mod platform.
I'm over here tube to E standard, and E flat. Lawd.
Bought the B stock purple burst HH Strat, w Floyd Rose. Box was half demolished and open when it arrived. Color was way lighter than the pics. Not too much better than a Chibson, honestly. Sent it back for a full refund after a week, lol. Glad you like yours!
I kept that possibility in mind when i ordered it but i´m honestly pleasantly surprised. And even if it wasn´t the way they advertised it i could´ve easily sent it back like you did so there wasn´t a real risk involved
@@DjentBeard Yes, luckily, they were good about returning it, and refunding the original shipping costs. I was hoping it would've been a better guitar, but to me, you're better off buying a used model of the real thing, even if made in Indonesia, like my PRS SE.
What kind of an animal opens the outer box like that? No wonder there's no guitar boxes around when I need to ship one out
Hahahaha sorry, i was excited
I'm building one explorer style can't wait for it how it sounds🤘🎸🤟😎
lf you want to tell me or not, I got the HB version of the Epiphone Thunderbird Goth bass, in January, nice gig bag about $280 with shipping, to me in N.Y the City, what kills me is the shipping, about $75. Got what I expected, pups are O.K, tunners such, and plastic nut fell out. Got a Graftech nut and new tunners and it's not bad. Got what I paid for Wright now. Nice gigbag, what kills you is the shipping, at first I could live with the pups,Roswell also, but after I play my 73 Fender J and 81 P I have its hard not to have to replace pups, oh and I forgot it has active pups. Even be for it got it I was thinking EMG's.
I like the way they did the output jack on that
Best output jack placement
Do you have the Arhetype Gojira preset you use somewhere to download? Curious how it sounds on this HB with Retroactives
My main presets are available on my Patreon, but i'm working on a video for a studio/tone tour where there will be new presets available
How's the action on it? Low? Plays nice?
Action was pretty much perfect out of the box, pretty low, but not that low where it becomes unplayable. In terms of playability itself it feels very smooth and natural, even better than some of my high end guitars
Just got a te 20 hh. Weighs 12 pounds and i love it.
7:40 ayo what song is this or is it something you came up with? it just sounds super familiar hmm
also this guitar is crazy beautiful and sounds awesome, happy you got it!

@@mattblack6332 haha no worries!
Should I get the one with roswell pickups or emg if I want it to sound like Metallica ?
Like a good friend of mine once said: Fuck EMG´s.
Honestly tho, the Roswell´s sound absolutely killer and with a good amp you can def get that Metallica sound.
@@DjentBeard great!!! Roswell one cheaper aswell 😁😁😁😁
the only thing i dislike is the headstock; if they couldnt do the Gibson or ESP headstock then i would have gone with a pseudo Ken Lawrence style heastock design.
What is that mark on the first fret? 4:48
Edit: Can't see it further into the video, so I don't know must be nothing
Could´ve been the lighting, there are no markups on the fretboard :)

So i am just getting into learning electric guitar. I am using one that I bought my senior year of college (ten years ago) so I have been looking into updating to something that won't cost me a month's rent. Haha. @@DjentBeard Okay, thanks! DO you have any suggestions on those, too? Love the channel by the way. I have enjoyed the videos I have watched!
@@danieldeschenes7722 is there a specific style you´re leaning to?
@@DjentBeard Not at the moment. I am still just learning the basics but I think I want to lean towards metal eventually, maybe thrash to be more specific
@@danieldeschenes7722 Honestly just go for this model then man, wether you choose this specific one, or the more expensive one with EMG pickups i´ll leave up to you but this one is super versatile. Otherwise the new R-446 might also be for you, considering it has a more accessable shape
Cool. Needs 24 frets and reverse headstock! I’d buy a few then
I mean all the sound from an electric guitar is in the pickups and the action of strings in accordance to the magnets in the pickups. You can literally have a great sounding electric guitar without the whole guitar part - yes you won't be able to fret things but if set up right it will sound great open. So really you could buy a cheap guitar - throw whatever pickups you want in and set up the action/intonation properly (most people don't do this and blame the guitar for sounding like crap) you will have a great sounding guitar.
has anyone tried the basses from this brand? I want to be a bass player but I wasn't sure what brand I should go for. I've heard that Squire basses aren't great and I've looked at Ibanez basses but they're just too much out of my current price range. I saw some of the basses on the HB website and I was wondering if anyone tried them and if they were worth it.
I'm planning on testing a bass soon
This is going to be really important to look back on when Gibson decides to sue them.
why? Every company has that shape.
Dude those Roswell actives don't sound half bad at all.. I'm not a fan of their actives that come on most of their guitars. I had gotten a HB 550sc Plus w/ EMG's and that one is killer and actually got me exploring more EMG's, which now half my guitars in my collection have EMG's cause they're so easy to install since its solderless. But these Roswells sound pretty good
They blew me away fr, not cuz i was expecting low quality, but just at the pricerange they´re in they beat almost every stock pickup
they have a emg model as well in this for under $400 i'm thinking of getting, i have a prs copy i bought 4 years ago and for a cheap $150 guitar i was amazed with it.
lucky you, they're not available in this blue color anymore, only black or white
I got the last one 🥺
Nice guitar and amazing playing
do you, by any chance ,like metallica?
Maybe
How reliable is it service wise because I may consider it, but I'm also hesitant because I'm more comfortable doing it on more traditional sites( guitar center, Gibson, etc.)?
Thomann is one of the best stores/services in EU. Up there with MusicStore
Is it advisable for me to do it since I live in the US and that is from another country because I've never done an international purchase before?
@@gregoryosbun4141 i know a lot of people in the US that own Harley Benton, the shipping might be expensive and take a bit longer to arrive tho
@@DjentBeard ok. Last question, of those people you know in the US did they have concerns on the import tax because i just sent an email about it to their email that handles those questions because like I said I never done an international purchase before so I've never dealt with something like that.
@@gregoryosbun4141 i know some of them talked about having to pay extra import costs but i couldn´t tell you how much it was and when they had to pay it.
You got a case with yours?! No fair!
I bought the one in white for $280. I'm proud to show this thing off and blow away everyone who sees it and hears it. This guitar brand is going to start a revolution. People will catch on like wildfire to this company. I'm glad to say I was amongst the first to experience it. I wish it much success.
Hahaha i paid for the case, no worries! And yes, i am convinced that HB is a company for the future
My house looks like a fucking guitar center and included in my collection are 3 Harley Bentons (Explorer, Les Paul and SG) and I have to say, these are becoming my brand of choice even though I can afford better. Every other guitar I get these days I judge against these and it low-key annoys me that everyone calls these "budget guitars" bc I think that's the wrong perspective to have. Imo, if you can get guitars of most styles at this price point that are this good, the question to ask is why tf are other guitars of comparable build and sound quality so expensive!??
To be fair, I upgraded the pick ups in 2 of the 3 I have but my point still stands...
This is facts
Please could you review the Harley Benton Nashville Steel with rock music? People use the Piezo pickup like it's an acoustic guitar but they can be used with distortion too
