An Explorer with a through neck and EMGs for 400$ is pretty amazing! This is definitely the go to guitar for beginner guitarists in metal!
And locking tuners and a Graphtech nut. Two things push me away from this guitar: One - I can't stand non-satin necks. They get sticky and I've torn off skin that way. Two-it has a thin C-shape neck and those cause my palm to cramp (I play medium D-shape).
I guess there's one more thing. Harley Bentons have a 42mm nut, I need 43mm or wider. I really really like the Amarok-6 but I can't afford that much up front so I have to make payments plus the other issues I mentioned but those are what effects me personally. Would love to try one though.
They’re $253 now bro! I NEED ONE NOW!!!
Yeah. And not only for beginners. For more experienced players as well. The deal doesn't get much better from here. Price and quality meet perfectly.
I'm not a beginner, but i still ordered this guitar, because i don't have so much money to get an Epiphone or Gibson Explorer at the moment. It's sad that Epiphone's white Explorer 1984 is not available enymore.
I've been dreaming of this guitar for so long
I Hope you can buy it someday :)
@@nyiar9599 thanks! :)
I'm about to buy it next January, dude i can't fucking wait anymore
It's surprising how much of a difference guitar choice can make in tone
exactly!
Honestly it’s mostly about your speaker mic setup or ir the only real difference guitars will make depends on if it has actives or passives.
@@sentientcloroxbottle1557 Your opinion Bro, but I don't think actives or passives don't make that much of a difference (depends on gain settings of course)
Actives vs passives do make a noticeable difference, but that's just one of many, many things that effect tone.
@@therealcbumstead Actives sound different to passives the same way solid states sound different to tubes. There's a distinct sound that can't be achieved with passives and tubes thag can be obtained with actives and solid states.
The difference is there and its definitely noticeable. There's no opinion, its been proven in sound tests.
I just said “yeah!” When I saw you uploaded a video on that guitar, just bought mine a week ago, waiting for it to arrive.
Hope you enjoy it!
Really interesting I’d love to play a Harley Benton to see, everyone loves them. This looks like another beautiful instrument
I've got mine for couple of months now and im happy. great video as always :)
Whats the frets like? Have they worn down?
@@Juaq1n mine are fine but i'm a home player. The kind that likes to sit with a beer after work and play along to favorite songs so i'm probably not gonna grind them of so fast.
@@Wodzirej93 Ok, thanks for the information👍 I play atleast 5 hours every day so I tend to grind up my frets more quicly. Have the frets worn at all on your guitar?
@@Juaq1n they should because i'm playing but not to the point that i would feel it
Is it pretty small ?
sounds perfect for getting ride the lightning and and justice for all tones
That guitar is packed with features for the price, that being said, I can’t get past the shape of the body and that headstock. It is like if someone tried to draw an explorer guitar only based on a description without actually seeing one.
They used to have these in the shape of Explorers, but Gibson probably threw a fit so they probably had to made little mods to it..
@@ryant3600 I believe that; probably got a "cease and desist"
And you sound like you've never seen an 80's Gibson Explorer. Lmfao.
It looks exactly what an explorer should look like when it was originally created. You're probably just used to the new sharp look which I personally hate
Nice tones Jamie. Can't go wrong with anything Metallica-esque
How are explorer body guitars for playing in classical position? Always wanted on but I'm afraid they wont be comfortable and I cant play the other position because of pain.
Ok but I found it a bit difficult with this one
Pretty comfortable in classical position yes
Hey!
Have you ever tried the 18 volt or 24 volt mod in an EMG pickup guitar?
I did my research and the specs on this guitar for the price is insane compare the specs to a Jackson guitar with similar specs which was the pro series King V 1,140$ and all those guitars are realized still have plastic nuts this one also has graphtec and Ebony fretboard and emgs for 350$ you can't beat that price😂😂
Is it true that you should swap out the pots on this guitar since they are supposed to be crappy? Have you done this? Also is it good for lead stuff also or is it mainly a rhythm guitar?
Not changed anything and you can play whatever you like
Hi Jamie, I have a question to u, looks so pink behind camera? Or can barely see the pink color on it? Hope u can anwser, Nice review
Much love mate. ♥️🤘🏻
If you want easy access to the high frets and you don't like narrow necks don't buy this. I had one for a month that I barely played and lost $200 on it. It's a good guitar if you don't mind narrow necks and you're not going to be playing a lot of leads and solos around 17th fret and up, fantastic cheap rhythm guitar otherwise though
Yeah exactly. Fairly sure the order old explorer toes are The same
I sold all my HBs anyway. Had lots of them. Too much effort taking care of so many axes. NOw Ibanez superstrats are a solution for all my guitar needs)😎
Haha yeah
I have had Harley Bentons. Good guitars. Have sold them or traded them. Still own the DC limited Edition Ferris Blue. All of the sudden they have steel frets, active pick ups, Graphtech or New Bone nut depending of the model? Hell yes I’m in! I’m buying them all over again!
Rock on my man, good shit jamie!
Nissssssssssssssssssce 🍻
Wish it came in orange or green...
omg yes that would be cool!

What do you recommend as home studio monitors for someone just starting out?
KRK rp5
@@JamieSlays thank you!
I think i might need one😩
ggood answer!!
I'm looking at explorers and I'm torn between this, the epi Korina, and the 70s Gibson tribute
No grover tuners anymore 😟
Does it have neck dive ?! I prefer to stand and play that's why I asked!
How good are they in keeping tune?
not as good as before since they no longer use grover locking tuners and instead use their own brand of tuners
What material does this guitar have frets from? Somewhere they say that stainless steel, somewhere nickel silver. If steel, then I'm ready to buy it right now.
On thomann its steel
looking to get this. would you reccomend the roswell pickups version?
From what i hear they are super muddy
I was considering this guitar but ended up going with an Epiphone 1984 Model (made in 2018 I think) Explorer with EMG81/85s. The HBenton Explorers look good for their money tho, with nice fretboards too, but they look really small, kinda like a toy. I prefer the bigger epic original shape.
It says on the website it has no locking tuners?
Does it come with strap locks?
What was the riff at 6:22 ? I don't recall that one, and it was nice.
One by Metallica
@@peepeepoopoo2809the one before that.
I think it was Sanitarium first solo
How’s the fret work?
I want one of those man
Every company that makes a White Explorer with EMGs gets discontinued after a couple months(Epiphone, Jackson, Chapman, and now Harley Benton). This guitar is out of stock for 20 weeks, aka discontinued. The greedy wolves over at ESP file a lawsuit against any company that makes their $1500 guitar for less(in this case, better in most categories). But it causes the value of these cheaper explorers double on the resell market, if you find one, don't loose it, great guitar, great investment!
Not sure if you’re up to speed this being two years after you made this comment, but they aren’t discontinued! Actually debating getting one myself but I’m torn between that and saving my money. But I can guarantee I’ll have one within a month😂
My mate had one they are nice.
Awesome guitar
No stainless steel frets or locking tuners. What a bummer.
Hello, tell me and pickups on this guitar (emg81/60) original?
Yes, they come stock with active EMG 60/81 for $325 or active roswell humbuckers for $166. The locking tuners are gone though, now just HB branded sealed tuners.
Can someone tell my for what is the battery slot used on the back of the guitar?
To put a 9v battery in for active pickups :)
@@JamieSlays is it absolutely necessary to do it if you want to play with the guitar connected to an amp?, because I am very interested of this type of guitars.
@marioraesmacsi4002 sorry if I'm too late, but with active pickups, the battery gives the pickups power. If you don't put a battery in, you won't get any output
Thanks a lot!

This review has given me the inspiration to ask the wife for a new guitar, mortgage & kids no longer make it possible to spend lots of money on new gear.
Hey at least if ur kids wanna have a go at the guitar ur already have one
@@nathanthompson3549 trust me I’ve tried, I got both of my brothers into playing many years ago but these days it’s hard to compete with the Xbox, it’s something I’ve always wanted to share with my kids.
@@andmetalforall2763 yea i get it my dad got me into guitar cos my mum was always having a go at me cos i was always playing my PC now i got a pretty balanced time of both
I'm so glad I got the 2020 model. That new cut in the body is not hot at all.
I LOVE the cut!! 😍
It says it’s available in several months :/
These are $400? That's crazy. The pickups alone are like $200. Is the guitar shit?
No all the Harley Bentons I've played that come w/ EMG's are built by Cort and so far all the ones I have are incredible.
Does it seem shit?! I love it
I've heard nothing but good things... would love to try one
@@JamieSlays no but usually $200 guitars do suck.
3:31 riffilepsy 🥴
400 bucks for an ltd knock off guitar with locking tuners. And emgs. Pick ups not bad price for real! But honestly you can swap them out for fishmans moderns
Unfortunately they ditched the locking tuners. They now just have Harley benton branded sealed tuners..no more locking grovers....sad
@@leviathan_is_me oh man thats sad
Bruh if they were to release a Fishman Modern fluence version, what are you guys going to replace now? I really think putting EMG's in a 400 and under dollar guitar is just way to good to be true you guys are never happy with anything. Unfortunately they removed the locking tuners.
Jamie are you ok, you look a little exhausted. Take a break if you are not feeling well.
Exhausted?? I think I’m ok but life is very busy at the moment. Thanks for checking in
@@JamieSlays Watch out for yourself and your mental health, don't overwork yourself. Glad to hear it's not anything bad.
Top la gratte !
Mais pour mettre en valeur les riffs ou solos un backing track c’est idéal !
Et gaffe les coquillages qui vivent sur tes oreilles ont du manger ton auriculaire !? Ça sert pour le jeu en lead !
Humour man
Tchuss
Headstock is a failure
Much better than classic banana.
@@vovanikotin The banana shape makes for a great looking headstock. But this isn't too bad either.
They can't copy the exact shape or Gibson cries and threatens to sue.. I'm sure that's why its a bit different.
The very 1st version of this guitar had the EXACT headstock and shape of the og Explorer! But for obvious reasons they have changed the shape many times since...
