Will, this is awesome. Both ballsy and entertaining. It shows that practice, workflow, best practices, really knowing your favorite synth, and a smattering of theory really matter. Nicely done.

It may look silly at first, but I think it is quite a good exercise. It shows you how good you know your daw, the plugins, the different elements of a track and the music theory behind it, how well you structured your sound folders and so on.

@@melazmusic Maybe give this method a go? Sometimes we rely too much on our ears (and perception), which are both unreliable. You have to actively combat their flaws with frequent breaks, comparisons to other tracks, low listening levels, lots of different setups, etc. Maybe if you go in with no sound and follow the fundamentals then you'll end up learning your shortcomings? I'm no producer, just doing what I can for my cover songs, but I've really benefitted from listening to my stuff as LITTLE as possible during the arrangement process.

How do you think Evelyn Glennie did it for all those years? As in live, WITH orchestras - and for those who don't know her, she was deaf her entire musical career, near enough. So, sadly, was Beethoven towards the end of his. If you can still hear the notes in your head, you can put them down on the staves.

@@EDMTips Well as a fellow working producer I’m used to being able to turnaround tracks for both myself and clients in a short time frame but I feel that lately as I’ve set the bar higher for myself with my level of production I’ve now started to procrastinate over little things in tracks that I wouldn’t have previously and never really know when to say a project is done. Would be good to see you do a video on something around this subject if possible?
