  • Loanne Miller Parker wife of Colonel ParkerPart 1 Interveiw by Joe Krein
This was never meant to be an interveiw. I was gathering information for an article.
    Telephone
Loanne Miller Parker, long-time resident of Las Vegas and widow of Elvis Presley manager Colonel Tom Parker. Loanne was born to Paul E. and Mary C. Miller. She moved to Dayton, Ohio after high school to attend Miami Jacobs Business College. Upon graduation she worked in the offices of Superior Steel and S&H Green Stamps, thrusting herself into the business world and paving the path for future opportunities. Loanne moved to Las Vegas in 1968 where she secured a job as the secretary to the advertising and publicity director of the International Hotel (now known as The Westgate). She met the Colonel when he was negotiating the contract for Elvis Presley at the International. The Colonel was so impressed with her business skills he asked RCA Records to hire her for the upcoming Elvis Presley tour in 1969. Following the tour, Loanne and the Colonel continued to work together, fell in love, and married in 1990.

The one thing she said that’s true is that “Elvis fans want to believe he was perfect.”
That’s 100% true and I’ve been guilty of it myself throughout my life. My parents went to his concerts and loved Elvis so I grew up hearing his records playing in our home all my life. He passed on my aunts birthday and my mom and her were hysterical. It made me a huge fan too, but Elvis was a human being and had faults and flaws like everyone else. For fans to continue to believe an “image of perfection” is cruel. No one can live up to those standards and it’s so unfair. He had faults and flaws, love him anyway. To me his talent is still unmatched, that voice was just a gift from God. Listening to his gospel music takes me to another place, just beautiful. He was so generous and genuine, to give strangers brand new cars and $80,000 rings, they’ll never be another one like him. Even today generosity from Hollywood stars like that is unheard of, especially to just strangers on the street. And Elvis did it all without the press, we only know the stories because the people who were lucky enough to receive these gifts lived to tell the story or others that were there. For all these reasons he was a brilliant caring man. Plus, in his prime, 1965-1970 he was the most gorgeous man that ever walked the earth. Elvis is a legend, The King of Rock N’ Roll and his legacy will live on through his family, fans and most importantly, his music.

True, crafty Col. managed early on, not over exposed , E.
When went to army had E. record records, & released thru 2 yrs E. away., kept him relevant . & made movie deals, booked concerts
Th 73 Aloha was sub par, subdued E. P. nothing like th Aug 72 Madison Sq Gard. energetic, one his best .

Elvis being dunked into bucket ice water to revive, & Col says. " nothing matters but that man be on stage tonight, " & Dr Nick injects , & Elvis fine that night on stage. She knows nothing what went on behind scenes, she didn't tour w/ Col.

I don't agree with that but it is what it was. Elvis totally had the ability to receive way better script's for meaningful movies. As well (it may not be a fact) but 'apparently' Parker took 50% of everything from Elvis's financial success. That's pretty sad. Just my own thoughts. It's great to recognize a gifted person but at what cost?

He was a great promoter he was not a good manager Elvis needed creativity and challenges Channel and Parker didn't do that. Also a manager in those days got 10 to 15% not 25% even though she claims he didn't collect on the 50 percent he Joe never asked her what about the 25%?. Whether you represent one person or several artists it's usually no more than 15%. I also don't buy about the fact that there wasn't any venues in Europe for Elvis to play. Now the drugs and the guns I get that but I think Elvis would have to know he'd have to not take that with him. And the fact that he's still an illegal alien I found that bizarre that if you know all these presidents why didn't he just become a citizen that's a question Joe didn't ask

Priceless interview. It's interesting to hear things from her side especially the famous sacking of the Col which in Elvis folklore was all about Elvis not being able to tour overseas because his manager was an illegal immigrant he was actually a naturalised US citizen not an illegal immigrant the sacking was in the heat of the moment the real conflict was the way for the Col was the way Elvis talked to the Hiltons on stage it was an unprofessional way to go about things to air grievances from the stage he was very angry at that show he covered it with humour but you can tell Elvis was really fired up over Mario being sacked he may also have tired of Vegas the demands and repetition he had already conquered Vegas and the World with ALOHA it must have felt ike he was back on the treadmill and then you've the divorce which hit him hard they say it can be like a living death. I used to blame the Col for a lot but I only blame him for what happened after Aloha.there would be no new challenges only repetition but where do you go after conquering the there's only one place and that's down.

Parker also held Elvis’s career back. Elvis would have toured the world if not for Parker. He also got him locked in that movie contract doing those miserable musical movies, which Elvis HATED and it really depressed him. Parker was too cheap to pay for the good scripts. Elvis thought Hollywood was laughing at him and wanted good dramatic roles. Parker also sold Presley’s music catalog for a measly $5M. That was ridiculous, I don’t think Elvis understood royalties and just how much more he could have got, either that or he didn’t care. Priscilla said Elvis was “happy” to pay Parker 50% of his earnings. Knowing Elvis and how little money and material things meant to him, that’s probably true. Generous and loyal to a fault, just not with women during relationships. I can’t blame him for that, I mean he was Elvis Presley and the temptation around him was everywhere. Women threw themselves at him right till the end. Priscilla knew exactly what she was getting into with marriage at 21, she was with him at Graceland since she was 16, meeting at her at 14. Those were different times and people shouldn’t be judged by today’s standards. Priscilla was the one begging him to go all the way and he refused because of her age. They only consummated their vows on their wedding night when she was 21. 9 months to the day, little Lisa Marie was born. It’s so tragic how Gladys (his mother died at 46 and Elvis at 42, his twin brother,Jessie Garron died stillborn. Imagine if his brother survived, having 2 of them? 😊 I wonder if he would have been a musician too. Then the Presley curse continued with Lisa’s son Benjamin Storm Keough taking his own life at the age of only 27. Some have speculated that he was depressed and found the pressure to be too much. Sadly, Lisa Marie passed just 18 months after his sad death. Just devastating. I really hope Lisa Marie is in the arms of her father and son in heaven. They’re probably jamming together.

I think the colonel did help Elvis a lot in the first part of his career. Later on Elvis would have been better served by not having the colonel manage his career. Loanne is smoothing over any rough edges. Basically Elvis made them a ton of money and the colonel did take advantage with his too large commission and selling off the rights to his records and selling and making huge profits from all the merchandising basically stole from Elvis. There are many who believe the reason the colonel wore the colorful clothes he did was because as the colonel said in an interview that he told Elvis what to do & spoke about Elvis not being dead. The Colonel being in on it the idea of Elvis not having died.
This lady, Loanne, is just repeating the official account. I think the colonel did deserve credit for the positive things but he took advantage of elvis financially.
It would be interesting to investigate how much was the colonel involved with the mafia.
Re whether or not Elvis passed in '77. There is a psychic reading where there is a reading on Elvis passing where in the reading he being Elvis says he was met by the colonel in the after life meaning the colonel died before Elvis plus he refers to his daughter being older.

This sounds like apretty honest account of some awkward moments in the later part of Elvis' life. It makes me wonder that Elvis' life was working pretty well with things working out one after the other right from the start. By 1976 one might wonder where his life was going. He seems to be burning out until the inevitable. I've not been an admirer of Parker, he seems to see Elvis as a product, the golden goose, a money making machine, whether that's good or bad.
