I’m hoping for a dlc where Shovel Knight does just that. A journey through dimensions to reach cardia’s planet. While each dimension makes reference to the many secrets. Like one if Donovan was still alive and heeded shield Knight’s warning,or if Shovel knight perished and shield knight finds help in black knight and a fixed up terrorpin against the ‘burrower’. The possibilities are limitless.
For the black shield dimension. It’s a more twisted version of the Shovel knight story. It follows the same idea as the original,but instead of shovel knight going on a quest it’s shield knight and black knight,coming from the ending,Shovel knight perished and shield knight lived,but what came after years of resentment for her ‘cowardice’,a new team of villains similar to the upcoming hexcavators arrive under the command of their fierce leader ‘the Burrower’ a large stalwart purple and black knight with a larger shovel blade. Armed with the very dark magic that was used on black knight,he seeks to turn every bit of land into his own image while ruling with an iron shovel. Hiding in the ruins of the tower of fates,now shield knight with the help of black knight and a fixed up terrorpin must team up as a mere truce to go forth to fight the burrower to save the land once more! For shovelry! For Shovel Knight! The game play is unique where whoever you play as,the AI would help much similar to second player characters like tails from sonic. And as a bonus. Specter Knight and plague knight could be recruited. Meaning those who have played the tragic Specter of Torment and the funny yet romantic plague of shadows can really get their hands back into action.
In defense of King Knight asshole decision, it was mostly Cardia’s fault for seeking King Knight for help instead of a more noble person like Shovel Knight, Reese or even Mr Hat
At least half of the Order of No Quarter would have probably been more willing to help. Plague Knight would have loved to see another planet's alchemical (and pyrotechnic) properties, Treasure Knight would do it as long as he was paid (Mole Knight would too, but only if he didn't have a dig in progress at the time), Propeller Knight would do it to bask in their adoration, and Tinker Knight would probably just do it to make the universe a better place. Can't really see Polar Knight or Specter Knight offering to help, though.

Cardia was going off a prophecy and despite his shitty attitude he came through with beating the houses.
He proclaimed kingship when he was a peasant himself. She didn't know lol.
well to her credit she was looking for skill before work ethic which in case of an entire planet matters more to just get the job done.
Cardia can get fucked. She tried to murder a guy because he didn't want to risk his life for nothing. King Knights request may have been selfish, but it was still a fair trade for saving billions of people from death, and even if she still wanted to refuse there was nothing stopping her from just leaving. Instead she tried to murder him out of spite which was a completely meaningless thing to do.
In case you haven't noticed, entering the fight reduces your vigor to zero, meaning that you have no heirlooms for the fight, unless you have the troupple decree with you. I didn't.
It was challenging.

This boss was literally the most poorly designed fight in terms of gameplay I dealt with in a while.

It seemed to me as an excellent boss, they force you to learn to be a master in the mechanics of the game to defeat it, if you can simply use the armor that gives you magic, but that is the player's option, you can learn to play better or just come back after buying shit.
I feel like Cardia kinda deserved this. Yeah she's there for a noble deed, but that's a Heck of a lot to ask somebody to do for you, especially if you're going to attack them if they don't comply. Saving a planet is not something you ask someone of lightly.

@@mx.e2176 Well he did show his skills in both combat and strategy thanks to his adventure and Joustous. Cardia was looking for someone with skills, not paying attention to how they acted. I think if she looked beyond just the joustous crown, she'd definitely find a better candidate like tinker knight.

To be fair for her decision to attack him--he said he'd do it only if they all submitted to slavery to him. Someone insisting that they weren't able to do something like that, or suggesting someone else, or even pointing out that they're currently trying to save their own land, probably wouldn't have resulted in her attempting to murder them.

The arena background being all running and animated as well as the shape of Giga Cardia remind me so much of the final battle against Zeromus in Final Fantasy IV for the GBA.
Yeah, this whole fight was inspired by Final Fantasy, especially the way she's defeated.

Absane Decree of Rejuvenation or whatever the trouple one is.
For me, this was the hardest boss in all the campaigns. She's hard to hit, and her attacks cover lots of space.
And she deprives you of Vigor before the fight. So either bring a Decree of Rejuvination or go back to the basics.

@@epicphantom589 Even if there are available moves, the game ends if all white spaces are taken, as evidenced by not being able to move Oolong to push Liquid Samurai down. I think the only exception to this is when you have a graveyard card like Spectre Knight or Phantom Striker.

Still... KK's campaign feels so bittersweat.
Excellent gameplay, but what a ending.
I mean, we all knew he was a villain thanks to all the other playthroughs so it had to end that way. The ending is pretty sad tho
This fight is excellent, they force you to learn to master the mechanics of the game to be able to defeat it, but you have the option of simply becoming better equipped, such as using the armor that gives you magic by damaging enemies, even if you have to damage it normal first.
If only you had the option of switching armors and gear without having to play the card match again.
She's the freaking Culex of the Shovel Knight universe.
I was gonna say she does share a lot of similarities to Culex. Final Fantasy-looking, purple, attacks with floating crystals each with a different effect, arguably harder than the Final Boss but an optional fight.

@@acario100 that’s not really a reward, it’s a tool. That’s like giving a Hero the sword they need to save your kingdom as a present.
Clearly she doesn’t understand King knight, but you’d think she knew at least that he might help if you stroke his ego. He can’t control 2 planets, so her planet would probably be under King knight in name only. Or maybe she could offer to build a crystal statue of him in their capital.

Yeah, my first thought upon seeing the background was “Why am I in Final Fantasy IV now?” XD

Yeah, this fight is a huge send-up to JRPG bosses of all sorts from the SNES era, especially Square’s RPGs.
A sprite larger and more detailed than almost anything else in the game, bizarre cosmic background for the battle arena, using crystals to attack (probably a nod to Culex specifically), protracted defeat animation where the sprite sinks into the ground and dissolves...
All the signs are there.
This fight also undoubtedly has one of my favorite battle themes across the entire Shovel Knight saga, “The Twilight of Tomorrow”, which could probably pass for a JRPG boss theme itself.

Holy hell did they went full classic Final Fantasy with her boss design. Reminds of a mixture of FF2's Emperor and FF3's Cloud of Darkness. Though i kinda prefer her "human" look.
She has the sprite of Dark Cloud, the background of Zeromus, the crystals of Culex, and the death animation of Kefka.
I don’t know about all of you but this makes me think of king knight as a badass!
ikr. i felt like a powerhouse while playing tgrough this game. thats why he is my fav knight(but that ending was still trashy from him because he ditched his mom)
i had never played shovel knight. until this dlc came out. i decided to get it for this dlc. and can i just say how incredible this fight is. i can speak for any of the other campaigns. but this is such a good fight.
This is actually the hardest campaign of the four. This boss and the final boss are the hardest of them all. In fact, this is basically the only secret boss in shovel knight.

@@dededeletethis9940 i just finished all of the king knight challenges. tinker knight was the second hardest. but mr hat was brutal for me for some reason. 3 health no items and you have to win in 1 minute and 10 seconds? rough. also baz was hard for some reason.
I adore the colored Crystals that all have a different "element" because the same four colors of crystal are used by Culex in Super Mario RPG, a hidden boss reminiscent of FF bosses, even has the music from FF4. Giga Cardia herself looks like a FF boss sprite, and while I've never fought her and probably will never, I adore the fight and the very subtle references it has, even if they're unintentional.
Glad I'm not the only one who immediately thought of Final Fantasy 4. That's the exact same final boss backdrop.
A way to cheese this fight is to get 2 decrees of rejuvenation then just spam the horn ability and it takes her down to 3 hearts. It’s especially effective if you play the first 2 sets of crystals normally as they are the easiest.
Ach! Why didn't I think of usin' the decree of rejuvenation! All that effort, when I could've simply cheesed my way to victory!

Imagine getting really good at the Pokémon TCG. One day, you across this lady who says she’d like to congratulate you by doing some cool. When you agree, you’re transported to a magical dimension, where you play against her in the card game. When you beat her, she says that you are the destined man who will save her planet from destruction. And after you deny her proposal for multiple reasons, she attacks you with deadly magics.
That’s this situation.

To be fair, she was asking a _lot_ of King Knight, especially on such short notice. Not as much as King Knight demanding rulership of the planet in exchange, but definitely more than should be judged from a card game.
Tricking the Knight into helping her makes her the bad guy.
We went from getting double-crossed by a giant fish, to denying becoming a god, to fighting Burger King.
It will take a lot for a game to beat the insanity of King of Cards
I beat her in Joustice my first try, with a gem sweep to boot. And, I didn't use any cheats.

This was supposed to be difficult. Probably a bit of luck with cards but you just might be pretty strategic. Contrary to me, unlucky and failing at being smart who took at least 6-10 tries to beat her.
The cheats are a free win imo and are kinda unbalanced

Astounding! Watching the card game of course reminded me of triple triad, like to most, but then seeing the background... I'm like man... is this a reference to FFIV? Crystals pop out...… whoa …….. ok maybe this isn't so much of a coincidence. BOOM the death animation...…. man it takes you back to another time. Kudos Yacht Club.

Damn, I never even though to use the decree or special armour as some people mentioned in the comments. I still beat her, but it took 5 or 6 tries. Definitely challenging, but fun!

NGL, I kinda wish she was more difficult. Yeah, she already is kinda hard, especially with no Vigor, but since she is optional and so out of your way it was a great opportunity to add a superboss to the game, maybe with a seperate feat related to her. It's not like you ever would need to fight her on other runs, the reward is for completion's sake.

@@vulpixheat2177 Penance isn't really a "challenge" so much, as just perfecting a strategy and grinding to perfect or near perfect stats.
And this is coming as someone who did beat Penance. Though that's sorta just a byproduct of it being a turned based game in that style.

I saw a clip of this boss fight (the normal gameplay portion, not the final Joustus duel) in someone's video intro, and because the clip was so short and I haven't played this part of the Treasure Trove at all (I've played Shovel of Hope, Plague of Shadows and Specter of Torment though) I thought it was a horizontal scrolling space shooter boss fight until I looked at the HUD and the player character's movements.
All you have to do is use King Knight's horn. 3 or 4 hits from it and she's dead. Did it without taking damage. Don't even have to leave the ground

So king knight just let a whole planet die simply because he wanted to rule it even though he probably would have gotten rich on it if he saved it

The fact the devs made a secret boss exclusively for completing every Joustus battle that’s so high quality astonished me when I unlocked them
a little note btw: giga cardia will always reaper on the screen a bit downward after the first crystals use this to bash at a crystal and spin her head around

Am i the only one that the giga boss fight kinda sucked. You have to wait for her to attack and the projectiles felt more spamey than cleverly designed. I expected something hard that keept you on your toes
Agreed, when she starts spamming the red crystals you just have to tank it. I felt it was really underwhelming boss wise, the design is really cool though.

its kind of hilarious where king knight is so oblivious to the fact that he could have everything he wants if ONLY he let go of some of his pride.
seeing his defeat in shovel of hope and seeing him scrub all the floors in pridemoor is worth so much more thanks to this dlc.
he has it in him to be a hero, but his pride and lack of common sense are his undoing.

This is why King Knight is the king of douches among the cast. You can't defend him with "Cardia shouldn't have tried him". HE WAS THE TOP PLAYER, AND SHE SPECIFIED THAT THE LEGEND SPECIFIED A CARD GAME. KING KNIGHT DOOMED A WHOLE PLANET.

Oof what a terrible fight. if you miss one of the crystal jumps (or when you get knocked out of the air by projectile spam) it's so hard not to take 3-4 damage, especially with red ones coating the floor. Thanks to the comments for a reminder about decrees! Very easy with the healing fish, which I happened to have on hand. Good thing too, since exiting back to the ship to buy more makes you do the Joustus match again.

Fuck!, where are the secret super bosses in the other games?, damn
This fight is horrendous. There's no telegraph for when she moves the crystals into a range where you can hit them, and sometimes she just doesn't, and keeps them floating way above your head. Without a wall, King Knight has some of the worst mobility out of the playable characters, and it's made even worse when you enter this fight with no vigor. And I swear, if you don't manage to hit her when she summons those three red crystals, just let yourself die, because the whole floor is an almost-constant death zone.
The card part is fine, just steal all the gems at the last second lol
i mean it wasnt that hard. and it war really fun. and in my ooinion playing with king knight is really fun too
