The Concordia College (Moorhead, MN) choir (directed by René Clausen, who composed this piece) and the St. Olaf choir have had a healthy rivalry for years, and they share common roots. Both are outstanding choirs.
Going to St. Olaf's and hearing the choir sing Beautiful Savior is on my bucket list. I'm addicted to them on RUclips, especially during these troubling days. Very calming.
'99 grad here, sang it every year in various choirs there, I can attest it is a wonderful thing. The tune is otherwise associated with the hymn Fairest Lord Jesus, but the arrangement by F. Melius Christiansen, who was the genesis of the excellence that is the St. Olaf Choir in the early 1900s, has long been a tradition at the school. When I was attending, during the Christmas Festival of music, the massive combined choir of hundreds would surround the audience and sing Beautiful Savior (I think by candlelight? I'm not sure, it's been awhile!). I hope whomever hears it finds it to be a blessing, I know it was, and is, for me.
amen. The song itself is about the Savior of the world, the son of God, Jesus Christ, who was born by a virgin lived a perfect life died for our sins, and was raised from the dead. I learned and sang that song in high school and college choir. It's a true and beautiful song.
Glorious music! And they are all holding hands! Even the men!! No wonder they sound so good! How beautiful is that?! Where did this conductor come from? What a standard. Thank you. Praise God.
Just gorgeous! Your tone is really beautiful. A Chorale I sing with locally is performing this piece tomorrow. We're opening the concert with this one.
Absolutely fabulous rendition. The unity. The current of one human voice as voices. The perfect consonants! The low note coming through in the final sound under it all! Ahhh! I am in love. Thank you.
St. Olaf Choir is the gold standard for college choirs.
It's for sure one of the good ones.

I agree with you. I discovered the choir on RUclips earlier this year and it's been a great blessing. Hope to hear them live one day.
