I cannot give enough credit to the precious videographer filming these and hyping up the dancers. Your positive energy must make being filmed much more enjoyable for them ❤
I was born with hyper extension too, (had to get surgery on my hips as an infant) I didn’t realise that this could’ve helped contribute to some of my stretches when I used to do Cheer. My sister tried and tried to stretch but it didn’t really happen for her - this is a friendly reminder to anyone that we’re all built a little different and sometimes your body just isn’t meant for hyper extending. But if you try your best you’ll find out how far you can go!
No person's body is supposed to hyperextend. It's a fairly common disorder called joint hypermobility disorder and it's not normal. You having to get hip surgery as an infant should tell you that. If she keeps going the way she is she is going to have chronic dislocations and subluxations as she gets older and will be in a lot of pain. Muscles are supposed to be flexible, joints are not. They hold your body together. Personally I regret intentionally hyperextending my body when I was younger. If I hadn't maybe I wouldn't be disabled now. She needs to be very careful and so should everyone who has hypermobility in their joints.

I’m quite senior aged now, but have been enthralled with ballet since I first saw pictures when I was a little girl. But dancing of ANY sort was considered sin and forbidden in my family. In school I would get ballet books and taught myself the 5 positions. I found I had a summer shoe made in such away I could “dance” on point. But my physicality would never have allowed for ballet in the real world. Beside low arches I would have been a corgi in a greyhound world. I spent nearly half a century as an RN and had a most fulfilling, rewarding life. Music and musical performance have added a richness also. So I remain a member of the appreciative audience in ballet.
Delaney is one to watch, we’ve got Melanie the tornado, Amber the powerhouse, Tessa the beast and Delaney…who is the epitome of grace. I love watching all of them, they really are the next generation. There’s something about Delaney I find to be so sweet, delicate and gentle, her lines man, they’re not just perfect, they’re slightly beyond? It’s probably that hyperextension at play because ALL of these dancers are so poised and well trained. I really love her profile too, her neck is aligned in a way that accentuates her overall side impression. Some of it is practice and unfairly some of it is how a dancer is born. I despise comparing women, children, girls, people…all of whom are dedicated and talented. I refuse, and it’s why I’ve never really wanted to say much about Delaney because some of what makes her such a beautiful dancer is the fact that she’s really pretty. She can’t help that, she was just born looking like a painting. She also seems very shy and humble so attention about looks could potentially make her extremely uncomfortable:( They’re all beautiful, they’re all amazing, but Delaney has a smidge more natural grace with that effortless flexibility. That’s what her superpower is :) Mega grace and flexibility. They all have an edge in one way or another. They are all powerhouses. Tessa is so precise, I don’t think I’ve ever seen her make a wrong move? Melanie is crazy strong and her pirouettes are insanity, her arms go right where they’re supposed to and she defies physics. Meanwhile there’s Amber who exudes strength and she emotes so beautifully, Amber has so much palpable passion for what she does AND she’s a great teacher! And this brings me right back to: they each have their own unique weapon they bring to the table. It’s like comparing apples and oranges.
Guys, this is not healthy! Hyper flexibility is actually called joint hypermobility disorder and if you constantly hyperextend your joints like that they can lose their elasticity and you will regret it later. Think of a rubberband that's stretched out and doesn't go back. I have hypermobility in my joints as well and when i was younger I would demonstrate how I could hyperextend my hips and other joints now it hurts to walk. I was nowhere near as hypermobile as this girl and I am now disabled because I exacerbated the problem. I have chronic dislocations and subluxations and life generally sucks because I can't do anything i used to be able to do and I'm in pain all the time. My knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and fingers and toes all dislocate regularly. Take care of your bodies. If you don't believe me that this is a problem and you don't take care of your joints now, you will find out later and regret it then.
I notice that people don't want to listen and would rather admire her "flexibility." It's too bad. These people won't care when this poor woman is in agony in 20 years from all this hyperextension. Hey, at least it's beautiful for now.
Hypermobility has nothing to do with the art of ballet - in Circus you can see this next to a talking dog… Take care of your body and exercise within your limits. Charme, musicality and expression are much more important for a successful dance career!
SO very beautiful! I was on my way to becoming a professional dancer when I was young, but life had other plans that turned life in a different direction. But I have still danced throughout the years. My last ballet mistress told me I had hyper-extension, so to see this lovely young lady do what she does with the same thing, well it just reminded me that I can still do a lot, only not quite like when I was young. But, yeah, thank you for the inspiration!💌
Hi delaney it's rory ur cousin since u went back to Oregon I really miss sharing with room with you for a year and a half I love you and watching u 💗 💓 💖 ❤️ 💕 💛
У Нади Павловой также выгибались коленки. Как я люблю физические упражнения, а балетные - они прекрасны, ты владеешь своим телом! Успехов Вам, девочки.
I can see the knee pain coming, if she doesn't stableize with stronger leg muscles. More straight would also make balancing easier and the legs prettier.
Genuine question: Has DeSLAYney the same background than the british ballerina *Hannah Martin* ? (She was a rhythmic gymnast before). Even her elbows "smell" to RG sometimes. 🧛🏻♀️🖤🖤🖤
Where is this school located? I looooove their beautiful technique, their extended lines, their skill, and their instructor. If I was still that good (and not 43 years ) I would be ttujng to take their class or at least one master class😊
@Calcifer Jenkins Really?!?! I lived in Tempe for a short time when I was 29 years old to 32 years old. I taught at a little dance studio in Mesa. I wish I knew about this school. I love ballet more than anything 🩰 BEAUTIFUL WORK, Ladies!!! 🩷🥰💐
@olivia caulfield I lived with a friend for the last year I was there in Scottsdale. The whole area is sooo beautiful!!! I thought I would never leave there. But, here I am in a place I said I would never live, Ohio, and I just opened a dance studio. So, I won't be leaving here ever. Hahahaha!!!!
@@melissabaisden20-20 Why didn't you want to live in Ohio? I've seen a lot of internet memes about Ohio, but I didn't understand them. I'm asking purely out of interest.
I will never forget how I ended up with my knee injury and for an entire year me and my mom went from doctor to doctor trying to find out what happened. My diagnosis? Natural hypermobility. How the doctor phrased it stuck to me to this day 😂 "Well... what this means is you would've been a great ballerina" I can't 😂😂😂 And yes, I do still have it though it's not as promonent anymore! I was gifted with ballerina legs and do nothing with it except freak out people with cool hyperextention party tricks 😂
You may want to be tested for hypermobility disorder. Why would have a knee injury for an entire year just from being flexible? That doesn't sound right.
I know I’m gonna be hated for this, but, I don’t think hyper extension is very elegant. She’s a beautiful girl and clearly is an exceptional ballerina, but I personally don’t like the line of the leg when it’s hyperextended.
You’re entitled to your opinion, but I don’t think many people will agree. Prefacing a comment with “I know I’m gonna be hated” does not set you up well. Just say what you want to say, don’t worry about backlash. I have hyperflexive legs so I’m a little biased/butthurt but if you’re worried about the response you’ll get, next time just don’t comment?
I agree with everything you said here. Your knees bending backwards in an arc is not attractive, beautiful or elegant. It looks weird! But.... she's very flexible, strong and very talented, that's undeniable!
Sadly those hyperextensions are all damaging to the body. She may not suffer for them while she is young but it is highly likely that she will have terrible joint problems when she's older. 😢
People are saying it isn't ballet... Vaganova Academy has many such flexible girls. I don't think you can call that "not ballet". Of course, they don't do their stretches on the stage. The stage is for dancing. But if they are stretching in the dance school, where's the problem?
Absolutely love the flexibility and grace, but it’s sorta nearly falling into the contortion and RG category of dancer. Ballet has always been about a strong line, over extended almost takes away the concept of the positions of ballet
I agree -she’s gorgeous, but enough with the hyper extension as a strength or skill. It’s genetic, it has largely to do with cartilage, probably has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. It makes for beautiful lines, and not to take away from her other skills and talents but in and of itself, flexibility does not make a stunningly beautiful utterly compelling dancer. It’s an odd age of worshiping the over splits.
Your flexibility is impressive, but PLEASE, GET.....UP.....ON.....YOUR... BOX! It's all magical until I look at the base & see how far you are rocking back off pointe.
I think her hyper extension in her knees makes her toes rock backwards on the box when the point of hyper extension happens. Not sure if further hyperextension to push onto her box or leaning more onto the full toe box will be safer for her until she makes sure she won’t fall forward or reduce the hyper extension and hop up on the box fully and safely. I’m not at all a dancer but it’s physics and her body that goes beyond average. It’s known to be a risk for injury or more wear and tear to hyperextend but it always looks kinda cool especially in this set of videos. She’s fun to watch and just commenting on what you said about getting over her box. I think her knee pulling to the rear just rotates the box to the sole of the foot edge of the box. Tricky to fix.
How is Delaney so simultaneously goofy and graceful? Slaying hard tho.
She, Tessa, & Leo are the perfectly graceful clowns!
