    Probably a good thing, the drinking culture in korea needed to change. Who wants to be going to get forced drunk with your work colleagues, and then wake up feeling awful and have to go back into work.
    Much better for friendships from work to flourish in a more healthy environment, like bowling alley or karaoke, having actual fun together instead of just getting blind drunk just because it's the social expectation.

    this is not only in Korea but also in other countries as well. I am from the Philippines. Pandemic + inflation + people becoming homebodies during the pandemic has really changed the dynamic.

    I visited a friend in England and I was shocked to see the amount of pubs & clubs that were closed for business and even those that were still open weren't full, so we travelled to one of the bigger cities and even though many places were open some were empty.
    Has for South Korea it's been about 3 years since I've had the chance to have a night out so can't really judge how much it's changed, maybe this year I don't have to work at night so I can see for myself but the drinks are weak.

    I've done that stuff a few times in Hongdae and Itaewon....not anymore though. Not productive given my work, and not healthy.
    For example, I met my friends in Hongdae a couple weeks ago, left after midnight to go home. But they stayed up into 7am and got breakfast lol.
    That being said, while covid affected things, you can still go to Hongdae or Itaewon and see countless people wrecking themselves.
    The more the nightlife calms down though, that's probably better for everyone.

    Rachel, you always have that lovely smile. I think the world around is changing. Everyone is feeling the money crunch. I also think people just feel safer at home, especially here in the states and the big cities. Covid was like putting water on a fire,

    I left Seoul and returned to the US about 5 months ago, and I'm surprised this is just now coming out. The "nightlife" didn't really return after Covid-19 restrictions ended. I started to come back, and made great strides, but never quite made it, and I'm not surprised it started to fall back.

    I have just come back to seoul after last being here in 2022 and nightlife seems even more quiet now without covid being as much of an issue. While i dont drink much i love how things are open late here where i come from anything thats not a bar or resturant closes at 5pm and those close at 10pm...

    I did notest that it is changing in Korea. I was in Korea beginning of this month and people are very different then last year. And especially before COVID. My wife still has some friends that wanted to meet, but I know they are students and they are struggling with money so we just payed for them to. Money really is not the problem 😊it’s about the memories that you make.

    You know, I think this just might have started in 2019. I can remember being in Itaewon one evening, and whilst things were going good, you could sense something was missing. Ala something had changed. The clubs were not as evident as they were say back in 2010-2012, and it was more of a front bar/wine bar/Tapas bar culture in place. Yep. Times sure have changed.

    Change is always constant 😄 Covid changed a lot of things: mentality, businesses, lifestyles, costs, etc. Convenience is a big plus too 🤗
    I’m not complaining about hanging out with friends at home - we bring food, watch movies, play games, talk life, etc. It’d be fun with you too! 🥳🎉

    In the US bars close at 2am. Las Vegas, you can party 24/7, but they have issues of drunk driving. US crime rate is down, according to statistics. Thanks Rachel for the update. ❤😊 US economy and stock market is booming, I'd think Korean economy would be following.

    • @micol7490
      @micol7490 4 месяца назад +1

      I don't think US crime rate is so related with bars staying open at night. Maybe, but just maybe, more with guns availability summed up with economic inequality, racial discrimination, gender inequality ecc.
      Don't want to say but prohibitionism already run its course and even the Drugs won the "war on drugs", so...

    I heard something about Korea and having babies. There's a story about the Korean government offering 75K to each couple that has a baby, and every baby there after. Is that true Rachel?

      That's called borrowing the childrens' future tax money to pay for the parents' expenses. The government doesn't lose that money unless a child is not born and they don't have a future taxpayer.

    A similar phenomena has been occurring here in America, but for a somewhat different reason. NYC and other major US cities have a diminished nightlife now since covid-19 as well. Alot of the reason has to do with inflation, but also violent crime has become much more common in America's major cities like New York.
    Our city governments around America are letting repeat violent felons out on our streets over and over again with little to no consequences for their crimes or violent behavior. It's getting out of control.
    You're very lucky to live in South Korea where you have a fairly decent functional government. You're lucky to live in a society where violent crime and looting are seriously punished. Where you can walk the streets relatively safe at night in your major cities. Where kids actually get a real true education to help prepare them for the real world. Where elderly folks are still highly respected and treated with proper dignity.
    I feel like my culture is literally just going down the tubes and when I say anything about it going down the tubes the American left labels me a fascist and the American right just ignores me.
    It's getting ever more frustrating for me to live in such a highly polarized country of so many truly ignorant people.
    America is coming to an end Rachel Kim! Common Sense is dying here!

    • @KBowWow75
      @KBowWow75 4 месяца назад

      That's why I left for Korea. I don't want to start a family in America's degenerating culture. Both cultures are going to have issues though because the amount of youth who don't have a faith and value the worldly values will lead to big trouble.

    Very interesting information, indeed. But, world is changing . Things cannot stay constant . It is somewhat inconvenient , but they say " when there is a will..". I am sure people will find a way to go out to some restaurants at night and have a drink. Do the home parties , like we do in the U.S. a car pooling , make sure everyone gets at home during the late hours safely. Rachel ,thanks again ❤️

    We used to do the same thing. Party like it's 1999, close the bars and clubs, then go to a restaurant and eat breakfast before going home. When I got home I would take a shower 🚿 and get ready for work. Quite often I was still drunk when I started work.
