    Google maps train timings are a life saver. So accurate and trains are never late in Japan. Same for buses. Seeing the intervals for special rapid/limited exp/shinkansen (and their respective types like nozomi etc) makes planning a lot easier

      There should be a 711 or something in the airport. Sometimes they sell internet cards cheaper than the booths/stalls. 711 dont do pocket wifi as far as I know but sim cards are available. You have 4 things to achieve outside of personal luggage at the airport. Wifi access, JR railnpass if you went that route and a trip from airport to city center/hotel. It can be a bit confusing at first. Dont forget a SUICA or PASMO card, they are gold. You can find those 2 option at airport if I remember correctly and any transit station.

    We had problems with trains, google maps was sending us on an express train which was not stopping at the station we wanted to go to. It somehow didn’t differentiate between express and local trains. So better check time and platform and type of train! Problem is, you have to know if the station is served by express trains or not.

    We are on vacation now in Japan. This video has been a great help. I do have a question. We started using our JR Railpass yesterday. When we tell Google Maps we want to visit a certain location, it offers multiple train options. We don't know which one is offering us a route that will allow us to use the JR pass for at least part of the trip.
    Is there a way to filter the options to show us only those that include the JR rail for some of the trip?
    Thanks

    Google maps is a must! In my experience it was pretty awful in Shibuya due to going in and out of buildings. Lucky I think Shibuya was pretty easy to navigate after a couple days without it. One thing I wish I did know before going, its ok if you miss a train (unless its the last one of course), just take the next one. I missed the first train I needed to take when I arrived and it was pretty stressful for no reason lol.

    Is there a possibility that all of the restrictions because of Covid will be removed before May in Japan? A PCR-Test at the airport costs more than 200 euros over here at the moment. Have you heard anything? greets

      With China opening up, I doubt it will happen any time soon :(. Believe me, if there are anymore entry updates, you know you'll hear it from me!

    How do I differentiate from google maps which line is a jr line vs the tokyo metro/toei line?

    • @harblife

      Unfortunately you can't. You can tell if it's a metro line if you see a blue crown-looking M next to the station name, though.

    the active walking map sure does make things confusing. cant remember how many times it went bonkers on me... the passive screen worked best for me. i cant stress enough to follow the recommended exit, save you alot of confusion.

      @@harblife my trick in those high building intersections was to pick likely direction and let the passive mode recenter where I was again. Sometimes half a block or one block was sufficient to see if I was going in right direction.

      @harblife  Год назад +1

      @jonathan7190 That works too. It's always annoying to figure out if you're going the right way. I find that zooming in all the way helps figure out if you're going the right way or not.

      Very few taxis can do this. The most common ones are only going to hold 4 people. Look for the big van taxis to have a chance at more capacity.
